I remember thinking about Robert Patrick playing Captain Cold a while ago.
How do you spell revenge?? Two words: DC!! That right, baby now that Eddy is out of Marvel Studios' "The Avengers", he can do whatever he wants! DC will tolerant Norton's allegedly *****e-bag attitude just to piss Marvel to the core! Yeah, I also don't need to explain more, lets keep it going.

I agree that it could work if Barry is already established, where we see him at his job, we see his relationship with Iris, and then when trouble occurs, we see that he actually is the Flash. (Kind of like that the rumours of what they're doing with the new Superman movie.)
But there still has to be a scene where we see how he got his powers (since this is a fantasy power, not like James Bond.) And I don't think that the explanation has to take long anyway. Whether early in the movie or as a flashback, it can quickly move to "present day" established Barry. i.e. the entire movie doesn't have to be an "origin story". Just like Reynolds says that Hal Jordan's origin won't be "labored", that we get the origin early on and then "the adventure begins", and not just in the third act.
I still think that time travel and crossing of young and older versions right away can easily become too complicated so early on, and can cause the audiences to not engage with the characters because we don't get to know them. I think the Watchmen story in the movie suffered because of that- they dived right into these problems of these older, retired superheroes, when we didn't really get to know them when they were superheroes. And the 'Back To The Future' sequel played with what was already established in the first movie.
I see where you're coming from, and I agree that all these things can definitely go wrong.
But that's all a matter of how it's treated.
There's certain 2 hour movies that, with the use of dialouge and chemistry between characters, establish a rapport with the audience RIGHT AWAY.
And in a Flash movie, that can happen, considering it would be light hearted and fun, in terms of the interactions between Barry at work, with Iris, even with him as Flash catching small criminals would be action packed and fun.
It's easier to get to know a character in a brief time, during light moments than during heavy emotionally charged sequences like WATCHMEN.
STAR TREK proved that a time travel / alternate reality story told well, can resonate with the most newbie or audiences.
Like you said it CAN get complicated, however, handled well... it need not be.
With obvious trimming of SOME back story and history between Reverse Flash and Barry, etc.
@OptimusPrime114-Great cast!
I like Chris Pine for Barry Allen now! Zachary Levi was my choice but Octoberist pointed out that 6'4 is a little too tall. If they could succesfully make him look shorter maybe 2 inches I'll rethink it!
Zooey Deschanel for Iris!

You know,after watching Pineapple Express for the billionth time,I think this could work!How about..David Gordon Green for director? Now, before Pineapple Express, the movie can do drama..super indie stuff. In terms of action, he has 'Your Highness' coming up and I can see him being fairly versatile in that department.
