The Official GHOSTBUSTERS Thread

While I am a definite GB fan from way back, I will still wait on reviews. My nostalgia or love for a certain character has suckered me in to things before which I have later regretted. Game looks sweet but I really want to make sure it IS sweet before i buy.

I really dont think the game is going to disappoint. Everything we have read and seen has looked really good. You know the story/dialog is gonna be spot on, its just gonna come down to has Terminal Reality made busting ghosts fun over the course of the game.

You know Pat, I really admire that to seem to go into every game with high hopes. I rarely, if ever, see you say anything negative or belittling. I honestly wish more gamers were that way.

Back to GB: Don't get me wrong I'm excited, yet my two worries at this point are repetitiveness and game length. If they can keep it fresh and give me at least a 12 hour campaign, i will be set.

haha, well games that i think are gonna turn out postive, i have high hopes for, haha. I generally dont have high hopes for direct movie tie ins, like Terminator Salvation and the upcoming Transformers 2 game.

From what i have heard, the campaign will last anywhere from 8-10 hours depending on how much searching for hidden items and whatnot you do. I wouldn't expect anymore than a 10 hour game tho. Dont forget about the online competitive co-op modes tho. There some really interesting stuff on that front. You get to use any member of the team you want, so that'll be cool.

I think that it's going to be good. 8 or so hour campaign, with the replay value on high if you have co-op :) I mean, I doubt it'll get old anytime soon. And considering if you get it held at GameStop, you'll at least get a shirt out of it too :).

Yea, well the co-op doesn't go with the main story, the co-op is separate from the main storyline, but the MP/Co Op modes i think will keep me playing well after the games release. I mean there is a mode similar to Horde mode from Gears 2, and i still have a blast playing Horde. There is also hidden items to find throughout the game and what not.

Check these out. I think im gonna be getting one of these skins, 20 bux at GamerGraffix.com:

Oh, also, as i type this, NINE days left until release!!!

...I still say they should have made the rookie customizable. Dammit. Oh well.

Those actually look pretty cool. 20 bucks is kind of expensive for that kind of stuff to me, though

Yea im with you. Being that you are the new recruit i would have liked just a few customizable options, but now that im thinking of it, my character wouldn't look much different than the rookie, he doesn't look that much different from me as it is.

Agreed. I still think im gonna get one, but if it were 9.99, i would have bought one last night.

I wonder if Gamestop will be able to sell some of those Ghostbusters tees separate from the game? I actually wouldn't mind it having the toon like Wii cover design.

The amazon deal doesn't really interest me but that "Ecto 1 Key Chain with lights and sound" looks pretty awesome.

I wouldnt doubt it. Im hoping they give the style t-shirt to match which ever game you get. Id wear the 360/ps3 style t-shirt, the Wii one, not so much. Guess ill find out in 9 days.

kind of funny how much Rookie resembles Sean Murray from NCIS (last name is a coincidence ;) ).

still think it's a shame they couldn't let us create the rookie ala the godfather but it's a minor point

IGN has their review up: 8/10, though I'm somewhat confused at their reasonings:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/992/992635p3.html

7.5 Presentation
The game plays like the third movie in the way it opens and is presented to fans, but some scenes need work. There are moments that don't fit here and there, but overall, it's sweet.
7.5 Graphics
The proton streams look great, the ghosts are detailed, and the CG cutscenes rock; but the in-game cutscenes are rough, there's screen-tearing and some aliasing issues.
8.0 Sound
The voices make the experience, but I wish Murray didn't sound like he was doing an impression of Venkman. (?) The original music is nice, but it's used a bit too much.
8.0 Gameplay
Who doesn't love tearing apart ballrooms and libraries with a Proton Pack? The Meson Collider's worthless, but it's fun to wrangle ghosts into traps.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
A playthrough should take about eight hours, however, there are hidden artifacts to go back for and the multiplayer is actually a lot of fun for ghostheads.

If this game looks as good as the trailers and previews we've seen there is no way that a 7.5 is accurate unless the screen-tearing and aliasing issues are that bad. I didn't actually read the full 3 page review yet, but I'm not too sure on those listed points.
Also, according to them there are some graphical differences between the PS3 and 360 versions:

For all the fanboys out there who want to beat their chests about which system got it right, there are some differences between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of this game. The PS3 features an eight-minute, 4 GB install that apparently doesn't do much seeing as how it takes both games about 30 seconds to load after a death or load a mission from the main screen. Although the PS3 has exclusive videos about refurbishing Ecto-1 and the Blu-ray release of the first movie, the graphics seem to be a touch dumbed down on Sony's system. When you proton stream burns a wall on the 360, there's a black gouge in the wall that features smoldering embers and bits of fire. On the PS3, you get the fire and black gouge, but the little embers embedded in the cut don't make it. Similarly, when you attack Stay Puft on Microsoft's console, you're making dramatic changes to his puffy exterior. On the PS3, these changes aren't as severe -- it's almost like a bruise rather than a fiery cut. Still, I'll save you the suspense and tell you both versions are getting the same score for graphics because the overall package is solid on each platform.

4GB install, goddammit. Seeing as how we were told that the PS3 was the lead platform seems it's pretty odd to see those downgrades on that version.

7.5 or 8 is a very good solid score. Nothing to scoff at.

I didn't say it was, but from the videos we've seen it seems to me that 7.5 is just not fitting. Most of the stuff I've seen from the game looks much closer to the 9 range to me. I mean the character models themselves seem to be worth at least an 8.

I mean it is a good score, but some of those bulletin points seem iffy to me. I'm not complaining or anything. I am pretty pissed about the 4GB install for the PS3 version, though. I may end up getting the 360 version now, even though I couldn't play online

Yea, 8 is a great score, especially for a game based off a movie franchise. For me the game is prob gonna get a 9 or 10, i mean becoming part of the team and using that proton pack as been a fantasy of mine since i was a child.

I just read the review and am more excited than ever. Im a HUGE Ghostbuster fan so i really think im gonna enjoy this.
