The last exchange put a smile on my face, thank you.

I picked this up today. I figured it would be fun to play in HD on the new TV I finally picked up for my PS3. I've just beaten [Blackout]The Collector[/BLACKOUT]. The gameplay is pretty good, as far as I'm concerned. Being able to switch in and out of the attachments for the proton pack was a smart choice. What makes this game so clearly a winner for me, though, is the great, great story. I'm really not much of a gamer, so if a game has so much as a mediocre story, I play it once and I end up being done with it. Ghostbusters: The Videogame is, frankly, impeccably written. Akroid and Ramis have developed the story of "The Rookie" so extensively that they haven't even given him a name. The character who the player is in the sense of the story is little more than a plot device. He's a window, which is exactly what he should be. The dialog is spot-on, though some of the delivery is a bit off at times, mainly from Murray, which is offputting. Other than that, though, I love this game.

this game is simply fantastic. it's so great that I actually wouldn't mind a ghostbusters CGI if done, a lot more polished of course, by the artists behind the CGI cutscenes in this game.

was playing last night until about 4am, got to the big fat museum guy in the underground place and gave up for the night.

I FREAKIN LOVE THIS GAME!! the first time i got to fire a proton stream i had the biggest grin no my face, and the best bit is it NEVER gets old! every time i got to bust a ghost i was grinning with joy at the fact that i was a ghostbuster!

you hear about games that have massive long stories that are supposed to be these epic adventures and stuff like that, but this blows it out of the water and, in my opinion, opens up an entirely new era for story driven gaming. everything about is spot on, the plot, the way the characters are written, the techno babble from egon, it's just fantastic! dan and harold and the team that made the game have done a frankly amazing job at what is pretty much an interactive movie.

11/10

now where can i print off a ghostbusters 3 dvd cover to keep this with my dvds?

right ordered a us copy - works out to be basicly the same price as it would be over here when it comes out when you factor in shipping

kind of annoying that isn't? you'd think with shipping it would be more expensive but for me it worked out about £10 cheaper:huh:

Yea this game is the highlight of my gaming career thus far. Its just EVERYTHING i wanted in a game featuring the Ghostbusters.

Im annoyed I didnt find out it was exclusive to ps3 over here for 6 months sooner!! I woulda ordered last week otherwise, I just expected it to be out this weekend :( hope it arrives soon

Yeah, Murray wasn't into it all the way. He was giving us 65% of what we got from his character before. In the next live action, they'll be writing his character out of it.

I thought Murray was fine. He gave a very understated performance as Venkman in the movies, so it makes sense that he was sort of "meh" about everything in the game. That's just the Venkman character.

You didn't think his delivery was a bit soft at times, though?

Yea i thought he was off at times, but more often he was spot on. That cutscene with the guys on the Ecto 8 Marine was just SPOT on. One of the funniest moments of the game IMO.

I dont see that happening. He's as big a part of Ghostbusters as anyone. If they are going to write anyone out, they will be writing all of the originals out, but they wont be just writing Venkman out.

Oh sure, the original GhostBusters will be going into retirement, if they haven't already, for the story in this upcoming film. It will be more or less like Extreme Ghostbusters. I think the GB service will have been extended across the country, or at least on each coast and one more crew for the mid-west. Venkman will either be out of the GB business or a part of it's admin with no more active trapping/eliminations duties. If I were writing it, I'd have Venkman still a part of GB but only as a business executive, in charge of their public relations, advertising, and merchandising. You wouldn't see him, but Egon or Ray would mention him in that context.

I guess that Stasis Dunk trophy really was glitched or something on my copy. I started up the game to finish off the artifacts and I randomly got it at the title screen.

Well, even if they did do that he would have to show up eventually. It simply would be pretty disrespectful to write his character away and keep the other guys there. If Murray came out and said he didn't want to be part of the movie or something it would be fine, but otherwise I wouldn't want that to happen.

As far as in game goes I think Murray did fine, but he was off. It glares to most people because the other three are spot-on perfect. Hudson, Ramis and Aykroyd all fit back into the character's like a glove. I think Murray somewhat struggled with getting fully back into character, though it's understandable since he's not played that character in 20 years. That and I think he didn't take it all that seriously, if this third film really gets made and he wants to be involved I think he'll try much harder to channel that character

I agree with you, though, I wouldn't mind if the third film takes a Extreme Ghostbusters approach.

I actually think that Murray did a great job in the game.

I thought Akryod, Ramis and Hudson were PERFECT. I completely believed they were the characters again. They were in character 100% and it was me running with the big boys of Ray, Egon and Winston. I felt Murray hit half his lines perfectly fine as Peter. But half the time they just felt kind of phoned in or over the top. Kind of what I'm used to when movie stars reprise their roles in video games (I'm thinking Sean Connery in FRWL, Brosnan in EON, Kirsten Dunst in SM2, James Franco in SM3). When the actors actuallly put effort into re-entering these characters for a video game, I'm really impressed, similar to DuVall, Caan and most surprisingly Brando in The Godfather Game.

I felt like Peter was Bill Murray in the game, yay! But it didn't have the believability the other three had.

Well I completed the game.

Man that was fun. It is a game that just keeps you smiling all the way through. And soon as I finished it, I had to complete the hotel, Times Square and Library missions again over the next day. I just enjoyed it that much.

If I had a few complaints it would be the death system and the reloading checkpoints. A reload takes almost 30 seconds and considering it is so easy to die in some points, that gets really frustrating. I thought the medic system was good, but the fellow Ghostbusters go down way too easily and then you spend half the time reviving them. The worst example was in the CEmetery when you had to use the stone angels to crash into the gate, they would hit you so much and Ray wasn't doing anything but getting hit that I must have played that part 10 times. It was really frustrating.

But other than that problem the game was near perfect. The dialogue was brilliantly conceived and felt like pure-Ghostbusters 1 throughout. Capturing Slimer, going back to the library and taking down the Gray Lady and of course smashing the Stay Puft Marshmellow man was classic. There were moments where I'd just be running with Ray or Peter and go, "this is awesome, I'm a ghostbuster." I think the slime and proton pack use was brilliant (though slime tethers were overused, IMO). And I loved the ending with Slimer, Peter and Alyssa Milano.

The use of Shandor and Egon's climactic line was great. It just brought a huge smile to my face.

I give the game a solid 8.5/10. I thought the game was a tad on the short side (though it has amazing replay value) and the death/load system was too frustrating and the Busters either should have been stronger or you should have been stronger or something. I will be replaying this game many times.

BTW my favorite running easter egg was talking to the Viggo painting. Between the Bush jokes and talking about wishing he had a toilet painted in, I was always laughing.

Has anyone defeated Stay Puft on the rooftop survivor level? I don't know how close I got but when we finally died he'd sent out so many mini mallows it was like a sea of the buggers. We literally couldn't move!

myself and ProjectPat did an online campaign and beat the Stay Puft....its best to have 2 people melting stay puft and the other 2 on minimallow duty

I've played all the online campaigns and haven't once fought Stay Puft. He's also not even a Most Wanted Ghost so, how did you manage that?

Play Survivor on the rooftop level in Times Square. If you last long enough Stay Puft appears at the side of the building and relases minimallows. When you blast his health down he goes and comes back, releasing larger and larger waves each time. I don't know how many times you have to beat him in total but it gets pretty crazy lol.

Sweet action. I'm all over that. Thanks.
