One theme I've noticed in several reviews is that the reviewer did not care for the basic concept of the character to begin with. I'm also noticing an increasing level of annoyance among some critics growing tired of seeing yet another comic-book franchise being launched.
Thankfully, I am familiar with and approve of Green Lantern's origins and the basic premise, and I'm all about seeing more DC characters getting a shot at the big screen. So a substantial amount of negativity from these reviews won't effect me in the least as I watch the film.
I have to say that are many other problems that many reviewers are seeing that do have me worried.
I am going to give Warner Brothers my hard earned money this weekend regardless, in the hopes that they will not abandon every other hero in the DC universe(other than Batman) even if they dropped the ball with this film. At the very least I hope the special effects and action will be entertaining if the film is really as bad as many of it's reviews suggest.
I don't think the critics are saying they are tired of the genre as a whole, but the cliche, derivative superhero stores. It obviously doesn't help when the lead character isn't compelling.

True, true.
