The Blake Lively/Carol focus was a misstep. I didn't think she'd be THAT present in the film.

They should have instead focused on the Sinestro/Hal friendship/rivalry.

Wasn't this supposed to be like "Training Day" ?

bunch of pessimists in here, script was meh but overall it was a good movie.

Yah? Yah? Well....underoath is meh!!!!!!!!! :woot:

man of steel has a safety net: Nolan.

Yah, that's true I suppose. Unless TDKR sucks, lol. But, that'll never happen...right? Right? *thinks of what people said about Raimi before Spider-Man 3 and becomes worried*

Well, what to say about Green Lantern having finally seen it? I liked definitely, but is it the among the best movies of the summer? Sadly no.

First, what worked?
I'd say the casting was pretty spot-on. Ryan Reynolds as Hal worked well enough for me. People complain he's pretty much playing the same character he always does, and there's some truth to that, but this worked for the screwup version of Hal that the movie was going for. When I think of other actors who've played lovable underachievers there are few who come to mind quicker, even the other fan favorite pick Nathan Fillian. I start to wonder if he had played The Flash as people would've liked would his character have come off better?

Blake Lively, who I really worried would be the film's biggest liability, was also quite solid as Carol Ferris. IMO she was competant and loveable I can't complain about her. And she gave me one of my favorite moments of the movie with regards to the ridiculous implausibility of domino masks

Mark Strong's Sinestro was boss! he commanded every scene he was in.

What didn't work?
every other character in the movie. From the Lanterns, to the humans, to even Hector Hammond. Don't get me wrong Hammond was creepy and villainous enough to get by, but he wasn't important to the plot in any meaningful way besides keeping Hal (and the audience) distracted until Parallax arrived. Forgettable, nothing more. The main characters have deep history together, but their not connected in any way that the audience can feel.

I wasn't too impressed with the CG Guardians from a visual standpoint, not to mention the script lost some serious fanboy points with me not a mention of Ganthet or Krona by name, or any of the others for that matter. How hard would it have been to at least name drop two of the most important figures in Lantern mythos? missed opportunity.

But the biggest disappointment of all came from the character I liked the most. Hal's rise to prominence is supposed to be mirrored by Sinestro's fall from grace. In this movie we get no real foreshadowing of that; Sinestro is a good, loyal Lantern here from start to end. We see the forging of the yellow ring that's all well and good, but to Sinestro that ring was just a means to an end, which Hal proved was unnecessary by single-handedly defeating Parallax. In the end he gave Hal his respect and at least publicly showed restored faith in the corps and their power. We've seen nothing of Sinestro's dark side or of his ever disagreeing with Lantern philosophy, so it made absolutely no sense to me for him to then steal the yellow ring and put it on. That should've been a major payoff, when a destined villain crosses the point of no return, like the first time Anakin is dubbed Darth Vader, and this movie didn't come close to earning it.

Was it good? yes. Will I go see it again? pretty sure I will. I'm giving it a generous 7/10. I hope there is a sequel (or reboot) to give Ryan & Mark a do-over with actually something of substance to work with

Overall, I still liked the movie, but I can't help but feel that it could've been so much more. One person mentioned side stories that went nowhere and he's right. They should have developed Hal's relationship with his family. It was that one scene with his brothers and nephew and that was it. Hal, Carol, and Hector knowing each other should have been explored better. Oa while looking nice, came off almost barren sometimes because Hal didn't get to interact with the other Lanterns. Hal and Sinestro's rise and fall respectivley should have been the core of the movie. Editing was all over the place and JNH can do a much better score.

I did like the beginning of the film with the intro to Parallax and Abin Sur and the action was nice. Peformances were solid and visually I like the look of the film. The problem lies with script. Again, I liked the movie but this movie could've easily been much better.

There's a certain silliness factor that I don't think Nolan would allow. No second act Batusi or Batman putting his feet up on Gordon's desk.

I'm uncertain about Captain America though.

Hal is in love with Carol and she's the most important thing in his life, and the movie rightly treats her as such.

And the Hal/Sinestro unraveling is suppose to be the sequel.

SyFy........Phantom........heaven.

It needed to be the focus of this.

GL likely won't get a sequel at this rate.

I feel like Ryan Reynolds has been cursed. I don't think he's meant for true stardom..

Can't you just imagine that?

"Jim...I have something to tell you..."*props his feet on Gordon's desk*

I'm worried there will be a campy style to it at first, but then it may be a style the movie will call for in a way.

If this doesn't 'ruin' his career, and he keeps getting roles...he's as blessed as any actor could ever hope to be. If Clooney could get work after B&R, Ryan will be just fine.

It's not as though Reynolds is getting trashed though. Pretty much all the reviews say he was let down by the script.

He'll get other roles.

Camp can be charming if its done right.

Good for Hal, but if it didn't make me care, it didn't make me care, and, I didn't.

Not very competently directed, story and script were weak, so it was a movie. Not much to talk about or care about, a bit better than Thor, significantly less good than X-Men. Won't be remembered in a few weeks.

Alright...I just came back from the movie, midnight showing. After reading so many bad reviews, it got me really worried. My veredict is:

*DRUM ROLLS*

IT WAS ****ING AWESOME!!!!! I can proudly say: **** THE CRITICS!!! This was my hero come to life and I couldn`t be more pleased. Was it perfect? No. No movie is ever perfect but this was a thousand times better than Thor and First Class, imo. Maybe im biased because i like GL more but I had so much fun watching it. The 3D was so awesome and improved my viewing of the movie a lot. It was just so good. The opening scene is a testament of that. It opened in space, amazing scenery, Star Wars of the superhero movies brought to life. By the time Abin Sur was injured and went to earth, I was smiling so much. It was great. We got to Earth and we're shown Reynolds and he was THE perfect Hal Jordan. The minute he was in the plane, doing all these stunts. I was like... YEAH! This is really Hal Jordan. There's this moment where he gets out of the car, bomber jacket and glasses. It was Hal Jordan brought to life and I couldn`t be happier. He was great. Blake Lively was stunning and also did a great job as Carol. She the funniest moment in the movie. When you see it, you`ll know what im talking about.

OA was unbelievable. The special effects were amazing and even the costume that so many people talked bs about was A-W-E-S-O-M-E. The moment we see it for the first time was epic. I could go on and on by telling what i liked about the movie but i need to say this: One thing i thought it was going to suck were the villains. Hector Hammond and Parallax were obviously not in the level of Joker but they were really well done, imo. Sarsgaard was great and did justice to a character that couldve been a joke. Was it weird? Yeah but it was a good kind of weird. B-movie villain and that was great to see. He had one moment that was worth the pencil scene in Dark Knight.

The movie becomes a little bit preachy and cheesy by the time he returns to Earth and there's too many speaches about fear. That's the only part that could be improved, imo, but by the time Parallax gets to Earth, it becomes good again.

All in all, I had a great experience watching it and I have no idea what critics thought it was wrong. Maybe they just dont like the concept of GL. The want every movie to be uber serious like Dark Knight.

I'd put this movie in the level of the first Spider-man movie and dare I say, Batman Begins. I became a child again watching this movie and this is what comics do for me. They take you in a ride and GL just did that.

8 out of 10 for me.

Yea, he's got that and Safe House with Denzel Washington, which should be good.

Then there is Deadpool. The film he should have done instead of Green Lantern.

Ahh yes, forgot about Safe House. That's two good movies coming up then. He needs to start being in films with A-listers. Still not a huge Reynolds fan, but I love Bridges and Washington.

Deadpool...I still have an unpleasant feeling over that movie. Sure, First Class was a great FOX film, but it seems that FOX doesn't give a crap about their CBMs when Singer ISN'T involved.

True. But according to Reynolds it's gonna be cheap and nasty, a hard R, which suits Deadpool and allows it to not be micromanaged by the Fox execs.

The script for it is amazing. But we'll see.

And yea, teaming up with Jeff Bridges AND Denzel Washington?! That's awesome.
