I agree.

They have a pretty good track record with their home brewed movie's they've been releasing through Paramount and will soon be Disney.

Iron Man, TIH, IM2, Thor and now hopefully Captain America and Avengers as well.

We may be in the middle of something very special and it should act as a proper example for DC/WB to study and slightly model themselves after.

Marvel is succeeding and WB/DC shouldn't be ashamed to not copy but emulate the formula that's allowed Marvel studios to do what it's done.

Get to know your characters (for real) and make cohesive well planned out interconnected stories. Marvel has it way harder due to some of their biggest properties being at other studios.

WB/DC have quite frankly little excuse as they own all their heroes and don't have that obstacle like Marvel has.

Love DC and WB but they need to step their game up. They won't always have Nolan.

They don't need--and I don't want--interconnected stories, but they need to have long drawn out plans for each franchise for them to succeed.

I was not underwhelming at all to me. It was the perfect amount, imo. The only flaw of the movie was to me the speech at Hal`s apartment with Carol and Tom. That was really cheesy but Spider-man had one of those too in the hospital so it was ok. Batman Begins had those too.

The first hour was probably one of the best adaptations ever and a GL comic brought to life. Seeing OA in 3D was awesome.

my main complaint with the film is that it seems that there are certain scenes missing or were shortened, especially in the middle of the film. you can definately tell because of how there are abrupt jumps in between scenes.

hopefully WB released an extended cut or there are deleted/scenes included

other than that, i thought it was an entertaining film

and Blake Lively looks so much better as a brunette than a blonde :hrt:

I can at least have fun watching batman and robin.

I don't care to see green lantern again. Nothing interesting happens in it.

And that's coming from a HUGE green lantern fan.

The best parts were the beginning, and the post credits scene.

Ironically I loved that scene and any scene with Hal and his father. Maybe because I often do the same. I get scared of anything amazing happening to me and I throw it away or self-destruct. I throw opportunities away even though I want them. You can even see how this has effected Carol. To others this comes off as being irresponsible at times or sad to those who know me, when really it's just being scared of there being a world outside of what I've known. For Hal, the tragedy of his father. For me, also my parents - never knowing them.

Exactly. I have no idea what happened, but that seemed to be it for me too. Like pieces of the puzzle were oddly missing.

I don't buy that, just do things organically. None of this saga BS.

Well i apologise for that. But it just came across as though you was bitter at Marvel in your first post i responded to.

It was actually a subtle compliment, but I can see how it could be taken as passive-aggressive.

Cannot believe how people dont think the first hour was a pure GL comic brought to life.

I just saw the movie and I feel pretty much the same way. It gets a 6.5/10. I would give it a solid 7 if I wasn't so disappointed.

That's my overall point.

I like the interconnected idea as well personally although I don't mind the well thought out individual films at all, both would be great if done carefully. Whatever the case may be they need to plan far better and wisely.

Fine.

Maybe it's because the Green Lantern comics themselves are overrated garbage? Well, they have been since Sinestro Corps War, which was like, 5 years ago.

YOU DON'T DISAGREE WITH THE MODERATOR!!! :cmad:

:oldrazz:

J/k. I see what you mean. I'm just not interested in innerconnected franchises, just stand alone stories. Going organically is good but there should be some plan in place for the future. Bring your best for each consecutive one.

Maybe it's because they haven't got an investment in the comics.

The same could be said for any adaptation yet it all boils down to how good the film is.

Doesn't matter if it only resonates with GL fans it needs to work fully as a movie to get everyone to enjoy it. I refuse to believe the concept is what's not working here and not connecting with audiences.

Execution is key.

Tomar-Re in the movie is a thousand times better than the comics version, that's for sure. And Reynolds and Lively were perfect, imo. She is just stunning. I loved the bar scene and the scene
where he visits her in her office. That was hilarious. I loved how he made fun of the Batman voice and how she recognizes him right away. LOL

I'm all for stand alone universes myself, I think a character is less confined in their own world.

On a positive note looking at that end of credits sequence now I gotta say Sinestro looks freakin great.

Couldn't agree more.
Execution was perfect though, imo. I mean, wtf do people expect going into GL movie?

He has always looked great. Mark Strong was beyond perfect in this.:huh:

I was referring to him in the yellow suit.

Exactly!

This is why I'm so confused as to my rating between a 6, 7, and even considering an 8 (I seriously can not judge a blockbuster the first time I see it). While I was disappointed because I thought some things could have been better, a lot of that was seeing script holes that were left completely unaddressed or needlessly cut. Unsure which. Other scenes I truly thought other superhero films could learn from. That being one of them.

This and IRON MAN approached dual identity the best ways. Either come out or have people act smart, goes against comics - but works GREAT ! on screen.

A good film?

I hate that excuse "Well what did you expect, it's only a superhero movie".

Seriously, what kind of attitude is that? So these movies get a free pass even if they're steaming piles simply because they are superhero movies?

Just dropped in to say...

I just saw the movie and I liked it. I REALLY don't understand why the critics are being so harsh on this movie. Thor currently has a 77% on dotten Tomatoes, and Green Lantern only has a 22%. I DID like Thor better, but I don't think it's THAT much better. I'm also more of a Marvel fan in general, so that may be some of it.

Regardless of what critics say, I hope the movie does well and that we see more DC comics on the big screen.

Wow, how disappointing.

The flick was so awkwardly paced. Mostly moving too quickly, but sometimes giving extra screentime to strange scenes. It was inconsistent. I mean, there's no translator in the beginning and the aliens have to have subtitles, yet Parallax speaks to them in English? Also, as many mentioned, the corps not fighting Parallax, Sinestro being just a public speaker, etc. I hated Hector Hammond, and I thought his whole role was just laughable.

I liked moments of the film, like the narration in the beginning and some of the Oa scenes, but they were too short and just surrounded by other crap.

Sucks, because I love Green Lantern. I saw the reviews, but I thought "maybe it's not as bad as they say." Damn it.
