I said it and I'll say it again. If it would've been Kyle instead of Hal... this movie would've killed! :hrt::woot:

With directing and acting like this even Kyle wouldnt be able to save the franchise.

But at least Blake Lively would end up stuffed in the refrigerator.

God, I'm such a b**ch some times.

It came to earth because Hal has the ring of the one that imprisoned it, so in essence Parallax was just been a petty ****er.

Although this should go without saying, the following is JUST MY OPINION, even though I am not going to start every sentence with IMO.

The superhero movie that Green Lantern most resembles is the original X-Men. It got lots of things right, felt a bit rushed, and left me a tad unsatisfied because I know there is a much richer world waiting to be tapped. This is miles above the Fantastic Four movies, but sadly not near as good as it should have been. Still, 20% on RT is ridiculous. This should be in the 50-60% range at least. If Spider-Man 3 has a fresh rating, I don't see how this doesn't. Thats a movie to be embarrassed by, this is just one that didn't reach its potential. I am not going to say it is as good as TDK. Its not. But it is closer to The Dark Knight than it is to something like Jonah Hex. To avoid the cliche I won't say GL2 could go all "Wrath of Khan," but it could definitely pull an X2.

I really loved the first hour of the film. In fact, about 45 minutes in I was really puzzled at all the negative reviews. Admittedly, the second half was not as strong, but I still believe critics unnecessarily pounced. There were a lot of things that did work in the movie. The costume worked (mask aside). In fact I will go as far as to say the CG costume was the right decision. It looked way better than spandex or leather would have, especially when you add the aliens to the mix. The mask was a bit wonky, but it was much less of a problem in the movie than in still photos. The visuals were for the most part pretty amazing, Ryan Reynolds was surprisingly good. There were good character moments in the first half. Sinestro was great, although not given enough time and the stinger scene was awesome.

My main complaints are that the score was one of the worst of any recent superhero movie. Completely forgettable. The GL Corps were criminally underutilized. Where they were used they were great. A GL2 focusing on them using the set up and designs in this movie would be amazing. The villains were a major letdown. Granted, this storm cloud was better than the one in FF2, but a cloud is still just a cloud. Hammond was also mostly pointless. And the editing of scenes in the second half broke down a bit.

If you are a fan, see the movie and have fun with it. Don't listen to the negative hype. Just enjoy the fact that we finally got a Green Lantern movie that gets a lot right.

GL is a thousand times better than Thor and SR. It was a fun good movie. You guys are out of your minds. GL is on the level of the first Spider-man movie and Reynolds was perfect as Hal Jordan. Blake Lively was easily the best female leading character of the most recent comic books, including much better than Katie Holmes and even Maggie Gylenhhall l in Dark Knight. She was great in it and stunning.

I really cant believe people complained about effects. They were a thousand times better than SR and even First Class. 3D was awesome.

IMO, though, Thor did a MUCH better job of transitioning scenes from Asgard and Earth than Green Lantern did between scenes of The Green Lantern Corps universe and Earth. GL's transitions were just awkward and un-smooth.

I agree. The first hour made me smile so much. It was that good. By the time Hal gets back to Earth, it becomes a bit cheesy but Hector and Reynolds save it. The only bad scene to me was the one in the apartment with Hal, Tom and Carol. That was completely unnecessary and redundant but Spider-man had those too like that scene in the hospital.

Surely abrupt would be a better word. Even jarring if you wanna get fancy. :oldrazz:

THe best comparision is with the first Spider-man movie. It is as cheesy as that but both are a lot of fun.

There are some really awkward scene transitions. For starters. Hal gets back to earth looks around his apartment and suddenly we see the Green Lanterns leaving Oa heading to Parallax. It was sort of an awkward cut of going from Hal looking at a jacket and then going to the Green Lanterns. Then it goes to something else and then it goes back to Hal and suddenly to the Green Lanterns in space again. It didn't work very well.

Well...at least they tried to make a good film. And we got Blake nudes out of the deal. so I guess it's not all fail?

Wow, I think I may suprise some of you guys but I actually LIKED Green Lantern. Sure, it wasn't a great movie by any means and it had alot of flaws, but I think it was an enjoyable movie. I came in expecting Batman and Robin and came out smiling. You people need to stop expecting so much from these movies and just enjoy the thrill ride that they are. Green Lantern was never going to be Oscar material and it never was going to be The Dark Knight. As if TDK was a perfect movie without any flaws but that's a whole different topic. Green Lantern was a fun movie with alot of potential for a sequel. I think you people should be happy about that. I still think Thor is the gold standard for comic book movies this year until Captain America comes out.

The biggest gripe I had with Green Lantern was that the GLC went away and didn't come back until the end. I thought that there would be alot of interaction and character development with Sinestro, Tomar-Re, and Kilowog.

I disagree I thought that Spider-Man was much better and so do most people and the critics. But thats what opinions are for.

Agreed. There were awkward transitions. I also didn't get why GL showed up to fight Hammond the first time...

But bad editing didn't ruin the movie for me.

For the love of god, stop telling people who didn't like it "what did you expect?" That's just so unbelievably weak. Come up with something new, for the love of god.

Haha.

I was really anticipating what Itsjustsomerandomguy would do concerning this situation. He's pulling a RWJ. I'm more excited for next weeks video from him than the movie now. :oldrazz:

this guy's videos are genius!

especially in a year like this.
see the thor vs gl one.

In what way? Kirsten Dunst is a terrible MJ, The GG costume was a joke and was as over the top as Hector Hammond.

Both have third act problems with cheesiness but the final battle and the leading characters makes up for it.

Maybe because you like Spider-man more than GL.

The ring started beeping when Hammond broke free, it could either sense the yellow energy or just trouble in general. See with a good film we would have been giving a reason as to why the ring was beeping.

Oh I'm subscribed to him so I know them all. I skipped a couple of his ongoing series, but when there are one-shots like this type of thing I always watch. He just tells people what we as a niche audience think. But he does it way funnier and more entertaining than 99,9% of us could. :)

I think Green Lantern is as awkward as Ghost Rider, the most awkwardly made comic book film ever.

You're entitled to your opinion, but it really isn't in alignment with the vast majority... not even close.

If you thought this was the type of film Thor and SR needed to be, fair enough, but IMO those films look like Shakespeare compared to GL.

I hope though, for the sake of non-Batman DC films, that general audiences share the same opinion as you.. but I'm not optimistic.

Indeed. It definitely looks like it's down there.
