I actually think that's about the time I took a long-term hiatus from here. Only recently came back with the last few eps of Smallville.

Well, they at least had Spidey 2 and 3 under their belts. Proabably a bit harder to take when the first step lands squarely in ****.

Well...at least theres nobody to turn on and hate like raimi.

It's funny how people who like the movie complain when those who didnt like speak as if it's fact that it is bad. But then the people who like it call the ones who didnt crazy.

This was a good movie. It may even be excellent. It was just so...formulaic. It felt like a retooled Spider-man flick. Everything was just so rushed as well. The pacing felt like it was too fast. Like it was just running through the motions and trying to do it as fast as humanly possible at that.

I enjoyed it as a Green Lantern fan and as a movie fan. It could've been better though. This is one of those "They're saving all the good stuff for the sequel. That's going to be GREAT!" situations.

8/10...Possibly 7/10 the more I think about it. I'd love to watch it again though. Movie could've been more fun than it really was. That and I'd have loved more Sinestro and Hal intergalactic buddy-cop-ness. After what happened during the credits I don't think I'll ever get to see that. Kiiind of a shame.

OK, just got back.

Let's cut to the chase, I wanted to like this movie. I wanted to like it so bad, but this movie fails so miserably that my initial reaction was that I was pissed off.

I'm going to lay it out there. This is the worst comic book movie since Batman and Robin. And when I say that it's because this movie has so much wasted potential that it ought to be embarassed that it was made.

The one thing I never expected from this movie, is how incredibly BORING it was. I can't believe this was made by the guy that did Casino Royale. This is the only time I can remember than an hour and 45 min seemed like watching a 6 hour episode on the latest CW crap tween drama.

The movie wasn't all bad. Mark Strong is by far the best thing about this movie. Unfortunately he is given nothing to work with other than being a plot device for a sequel. But what he is given he turns to gold.

Kilowog and Tomar Re are a complete waste. They're barely in the movie and don't really do much. I did like Kilowog being the drill sergeant of the Lantern Corps, but he's basically there as an easter egg, with no real purpose to the plot.

Blake Lively is a horrible actress, and other than looking pretty serves no purpose. Compared to the chemistry Hemsworth and Portman had in Thor, these two are a cold shower standing in a bucket of ice.

The Oa stuff and space stuff work well in the movie, but there's not enough and it's disjointed. The earth stuff fails miserably. Way too many pointless scenes, like Hal going to meet his brother for his nephew's birthday, which is a non-sequitor to the overall plot of the film.

Most dissapointing is Hector Hammond who will go down as the single worst villian in a comic book movie. How the f*** did Roger Ebert think Hiddleston was bad in Thor and like this?

The whole thing just topples like a house of cards in the first few minutes of the film and I am pissed. I feel so bad for all the GL fans who deserve better than this hack job, that was thrown together and marketed and just expected to consume.

The good news is, if this movie is fortunate enough to get a sequel. With the focus on Sinestro (who should have been the main villian in this film) and some tweaks, the next movie could be a huge turn around. However you better hope and pray this thing doesn't tank at the box office, because it may never get the chance. The other bad thing with the bad press, Mark Strong and Ryan Reynolds could walk away. They aren't going to risk their careers on this turd.

It sure was brief. On a different note, I can't believe how hot Blake Lively looked in the movie.

My friend and I just finished seeing it.

I gotta say...I liked it.

The acting was good and I was satisfied in that area. Ryan Reynolds was good, Lively was pretty decent, Strong was good as well. The special effects were well done. Liked the action.

First half of the movie was its best, running through Hal's story up until end of his Oa training. Someone had said Coast City wasn't mentioned at all...it was on the tv screen during the news report of Hal's crash: Coast City, CA. Really digged it a lot.

And then the second half started and we were like..."What?" There were moments of potential that got cut off too quick. The Corps attack on Parallax ended too quick, Hal's first appearance as Green Lantern too short. And Hal beating Parallax without longer training was ridiculous.

As someone said, the script was weak. A lot of cliches, and the word "fear" was overused. It's not the first time that's happened but annoying nonetheless. My friend had the same complaint that he had for Thor: the movie didn't play up the epicness of the mythos.

However, it didn't detract a lot from my enjoyment, so I'll give this a 7. Some audience members clapped, others really clapped for Sinestro and Yellow Ring. Speaking of which...

And the mid-credits scene was cool. I didn't see it as Sinestro turning, only satisfying his curiosity, like it was a temptation since he nearly got to wear it early on and all the talk about how powerful it is.

I'm hoping that a sequel can happen and there's an overhaul with mistakes being learned. This could be the Star Trek: Motion Picture to a Wrath of Khan. But who knows if it'll happen. I'm hoping Warner Bros. doesn't give up on putting secondary characters on film. I really want to see more of DC Comics on the screen.

I also think Geoff Johns should be relegated as consultant/ideas man for these projects. He may have been too much of a fanboy in this production to notice the flaws. He's the guy you want when it comes to comic book knowledge but not the one for scripting and story. He's probably like David Goyer in the sense he needs someone to keep him in check and reign him in.

Once again, 7 out of 10.

Well, it did happen, but we didn't see it happening in real time. Sinestro was telling the Guardians what happened and we saw what he was saying.

I'm relieved that you dug it TheSage. I don't know if anyone noticed but I noticed that the hot purple Green Lantern's jugs were showing skin. Before that the were totally covered up in one of the trailers or something.

It's just that there is such an emotional investment in the character and it doing well that wasn't there with Electra, Punisher, Jonah Hex, etc. and that so much potential for this to be great and then turning into a hack job that looks like it was trown together in 15 minutes.

The movie was fun, that's what I can say about it. As a GL fan, there were certain things I wanted alluded to, but this felt more like Golden Age stuff in a modern day setting..kinda cheesy for cheese's sake, but most of the stuff Hal did via the ring he would have done in the old school books.

There was a split in opinions about SM3, I don't think the Venom fans were too happy. The negative reviews of SM3 made me wait a few weeks before I watched the film. I was going to see Green Lantern tomorrow, but I'm waiting for more word of mouth reviews before seeing it (in 2D).

The problem is that as I'm getting older, I'm getting more critical of films these days and I seem to agree with what the tomatometer says. I remember watching Transformers 2, yeah I laughed at the two dogs humping and the two guys with no pants, but after watching the film I thought it was terrible. I thought I was the only one, then checked rotten tomatoes, and I wasn't alone.

I honestly can't see how people can hate it this badly. Sure, it may not have been mind blowing to some (I freaking loved it) but it was certainly a very good comic book movie. I'm a casual GL reader (I prefer Batman), so maybe that's why I liked it more than hardcore GL readers.

Trust me, it's good! Please watch it and judge for yourself. If I had listend to the reviews, I would have missed out on an amazing super hero movie.

The simplist way I can say it without too many spoilers is the Oa stuff worked, the Earth stuff didn't.

What's the first thing Hal does after saying the Latern pledge? He goes to a bar with Carol to have long drivel about their long lost relationship. It felt forced and it was boring.

I'm not a hard core GL reader either, but I just want a movie that has good pacing and at least follows some direction. As bad as the Fantastic Four movies were, at least there weren't any long drawn out narritives, and it moved along at a reasonable pace.
