If GL is a success I doubt WB is going to still not care about the script in the future. Espically with their comic movies, all the negative press will tarnish the movie even if it is a success and they certainly try to better it next time I believe.

And yet the Marvel people feel that they need to come in here and berate fans of this film...fans who have openly stated that the film has its problems. It goes both ways.

Morningstar, I agree with you, I hope this movie bombs. That way, maybe 5 or more years from now they can reboot it, and make it better. It's the fact that the movie had potential, and it seemed as if film makers didn't even care or try to reach that potential.

And J. Howlett, I know it's obvious what I'm a fan of, but in my review, I did point out positives about this movie, so I don't completely hate on it. I also respect others opinions unless I get the vibe they think theirs outweighs everyone else's.

See I can basically agree with that. But Hals execution of Parallax made sense.

Parallax should have been fought by the entire corp together and the final blow is dealt by The lantern like how Michael Jordan won games for the bulls but it was the entire team effort. sinestro would have been like a pippen. for thos who understand basketball lol

It really should have been a team effort. Either that or parallax should have been a test they leave Hal to deal with to prove his worth and that would have made more sense if parallax wasnt quite eminent danger for Oa, but merely to earth and it smilky way in which they dispatch Hal Jordan or something to deal with it as his first assignment and test. That would have made more sense and would have made the Lanterns FAR more powerful as an image that a rookie was given such a monstrosity of a villain to conquer. so it would leave the audience in awe at what the entire crew is capable of and what threats they REALLY face on a regular basis

the fact they have been around for centuries and it took one human to defeat their biggest DANGER ever faced as a corp was very plot hole cringe worthy

I'm going to forge a ring out of the light of hyperbole, because apparently that's the most powerful force out there right now.

Godman,

You honestly think that Martin Campbell didn't want this film to be great...or that WB didn't want this film to be great?

I wanted Iron Man 2 to be great and I'm sure Favreau did too but ultimately, it's a **** film, in comparison to the first one.

That doesn't mean they didn't tr
y.

here is the problem. they were trying to make a good movie. but they didnt plan enough for a movie of this scale. time and money was not spend like it should.

How the hell do you know they didn't plan enough?

Nobody sets out to make a bad film.

if GL is a success then why would WB change anything? was TF2 changed after TF? no. Bay got more freedom and it was even more extreme. you think Clash of Titans will fix problems from the first movie?

there is no reason to change the formula if it made money the first time.

i agree that they didnt plan to make a bad movie. they wanted this to be their Iron Man.and maybe it will be.

yes i know that they didnt plan enough. all the official info about the marketing isnt proof enough? that they didnt have enough CGI finished footage for promotion before march? isnt this proof? i knwo that in 2011 they were working on some shots that should be almost finished in december.

-hey lets change Oah in the last minute.
-hey lets change the GL symbol behind Sinestro.

If WB has already commissioned a script for Green Lantern 2 and that sequel doesn't come out until Summer 2013, that's two years. How are they not carrying about the scripting stage if they've already started writing BEFORE the film was released?

Common sense, people.

Not saying all that time is going to make it a perfect script but to say they're not planning correctly at this point is ridiculous.

Michael Goldenberg has been working on the script for Lantern 2 for a few months already.

That doesn't mean they didn't try.

After approving of the script i dont see how professional film makers and studios could have green lit it. The script would have screamed horrible so i dont see how what they completed made them feel satisfied. They should take $200 people to watch animatronic story board of the movie and tell them all the problems. I dont think movie studios really listen to criticism before its too late. SO when bad reviews come in i dont understand how they could have thought it was going to be great.

Honestly I think martin Campbell thought Casino Royale and Golden Eye were something to behold upon release, even mask of zorro, but i really think deep down Campbell wasnt amped about this project like Nolan was for batman, snyder was for 300, rob rodriguez for sin city, Sam Raimi for spiderman, richard donner for superman etc...all those directors, even burton for batman OWNED their movies to the end and made it THEIR movies. I got Martin Campbell trying to do a comic book movie as a job he was hired to do and not Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, a project he was dying to work on.

I mean campbell can do action adventure and also very well with gritty action movies...so i dont understand how they gave an average director at best who has given SOME good movies in comparisson to people who are masters of a certain genre that give multiple GREAT movies in their genre. Campbell for Punisher YES, but for a sci fi green lantern movie? no

dark b,

That's the nature of CG. It's a fluid situation when it comes to CG. They're allowed to make changes, even at the last minute.

I wouldn't recommend it but if Martin Campbell felt the need to change something at the last minute, so be it.

It shows they care more about making a franchise, than making decent movies.

I said when it was first announced about the sequel script, don't jump the gun, take it one movie at a time. They obviously aren't. They are arrogant and took it for granted that this movie would be a success.

And if this movie is a success, what makes anyone think the sequel will be better? If audiences gobble this turd up, they how does that give WB motivation to improve?

Godman,

So, you think that the script was written and no changes were made while shooting? A script is almost always in flux, no matter how good or bad it is.

On set, the chemistry and flow of the actors could change things up from the script. Something that reads very, very well in the script could actually not work when actually shot, so you have to change it.

There's all sorts of reasons why the representation of script is the way it is when the finished film is released.

I think this has more to do with pieces cut out than the actual script issues, which are there. But, we have no idea if the issues people have with the film are fixed with deleted material or was just written that way.

Nobody knows.

Nailed it.

yes i also respect artistic decisions. but when you have almost 12 months to to find the look of Oah then do it.

you also said thats the nature of CGI. thats the nature of lazy filmaking since CGI took over hollywood. in teh 80's and 90's director wouldnt do this because they couldnt. so in prepdouction every dollar and every minute was important.

Richard Roeper:" We havent had a Superhero movie in about a week , but the drought is over". LOL.

Morningstar,

And Marvel cares more about making decent films than making a franchise than DC?

Bull****. Can we say shoehorning in SHIELD everywhere....

Can we say rushing out Iron Man 2 when the director wanted another year? Have we forgot about X-Men the Last Stand?

I do music videos and there are those i get full control over in which i myself LOVE and can watch over and over, but then there are those that were to pay rent and tho i still executed well as far as my skill level goes i knew were sub par as i wasnt in LOVE with the artists music i was shooting for nor did i like their direction so i worked with the best i got.

so sometime you know what u working on is not going to be the next best thing as its not ur baby which i believe happened here. of course they didnt think disaster, btu i know campbell was crossing his fingers. kinda like a joke ur skeptical of saying infront of people in case they dont laugh. there are jokes that u KNOW will hit

Honestly, I think all the SHEILD reference complaints in Marvel flicks are massively overblown.
