They could save a ton of money and give Hal an actual suit. Just have some of it CGI, so it still looks somewhat like it's energy. Get midgets in blue make up and all that. What they probably should have done from the beginning.![]()

The Guardians did look very off I will agree on that but I loved the CGI suit it made sense for the movie cause the suit is supposed to be a construct of light
I do think that if they do a sequel they will sort out the problems from ths first film.
I liked the suit for the most part too. But if they do go forward with a sequel and make budget cuts, I'd understand them doing that.
S.A.A.D. I wonder that too. I wish they could have finished them.
Yeah wouldn't shock me either.
Yeah it sounds like a few of the cut scenes might have added a little more depth.
What was the run time for this film btw? cause it absolutely flew by when I watched it
Well, would the critics chew it out if it turns out to be a better overall film? I don't know.
I'm just trying to be as optimistic as I can. It's what I do.![]()
I've heard 115 minutes, but I could be wrong.
An hour and 43 minutes without credits. I clocked it twice.
To the end credits scene, an hour and 47 minutes without the rest of the credits.
Well, they could have made this a better overall film by having no effects, a few costumes, and a brilliant existential satire set in the outskirts of Norway...probably for something like $60M-80M. A better film, perhaps...but....
Serously though...you can't really ask for doing it cheaper, unless they just somehow squandered a third of the money on this film on such a biblical scale that they'll be under federal investigation for fraud.
It's going to take a huge leap of faith on the part of WB. They'll somehow have to be convinced that the first movie, even though a major disappointment, was just a stepping stone to huge potential by continuing. That they can learn from their mistakes on this one, and that the ingredients are there to make the franchise a true blockbuster benchmark. They'll need to be convinced that they'll be spending more money but ultimately getting more out of it.
Basically...someone will have to fool the heck out of them to an extent that the Trojan Horse looks like a party trick.![]()
I think the truth of the matter is that this movie was a kind of "have to do it." People needed an entrance into the world of GL, and Hal Jordan is the first Earthling GL and thus his entrance into the Corps is the logical place to intro audiences to the mythos. So it hit all the bases, but was very very ambitious visually. Very ambitious. To the extent that they had to put more money into the effects at the 11th hour and ended up cutting some stuff that definitely would have added more depth and gravitas to the whole thing.
From the end credits scene, the use of Parallax at all and the forging of the yellow ring we know where the producers, writers, actors and the studio really wants to go with GL. And it's into the Sinestro Corps War territory. If they are going to do a sequel, and since we know the gave a green light to the sequel before this thing was even really finished and definitely before it was put up for public display, they aren't going to cut back. They are going to reassess and realize it wasn't that they wasted their money on the necessary spectacle of it all. They wasted their money doing a story that was more earthbound than necessary.
Let's say they didn't use Parallax as the main villain here and instead went with Hammond, but had Sinestro more involved with Hal's intro to the Corps. So instead of Atrocitus and the Black Hand like in Secret Origin you get Hammond and Sinestro lending Hal a hand in taking care of him. They bond over this and Sinestro likes what he sees in Hal's questioning of the Guardians and how he throws himself into the action with abandon. Then the second half of the film has them on Korugar for some reason, where Hal sees what Sinestro's really up to. That he's a fascist. So you get Emerald Dawn II thrown in there.
With what we've got, though, we know they are itching to use the archnemesis of Hal Jordan and have him throwdown with Sinestro. I think it will happen, and I think they'll want to put more money into the affair and really make the Green Lantern movie they need to make.
WB sees value in GL as a tentpole, and they are hitting it up hard. GL comics have been driving the DCU for a couple years now. The GL movie just hit and they built into an intentional device for the sequel. Which I have no doubts they are going to go for, and ambitiously. Add to that, they've got GL: The Animated Series hitting TV this fall. I almost don't see a sequel NOT happening.

Well...if being an origin/intro really is a handicap these days...they'll have to come up with another way of starting things off...which every other comic movie will then follow, and then that'll be old-hat too.I think the truth of the matter is that this movie was a kind of "have to do it." That's assuming that the shareholders/execs will recognize...or even care...about that difference. Earth, space, whatever...it'll probably scream a lack of appeal with this character no matter where he is.From the end credits scene, the use of Parallax at all and the forging of the yellow ring we know where the producers, writers, actors and the studio really wants to go with GL. If this movie continues down its financial road, and it looks like they'd be spending even more money for more of what little they got for $150-200M on this one...that very realistic light could cast quite a shadow on those ambitions...especially in these financial times.Let's say they didn't use Parallax as the main villain here and instead went with Hammond, but had Sinestro more involved with Hal's intro to the Corps. Just curious,I wonder how superior the reception would have been concerning the movie if it wasn't missing scenes that were suppose to be in it. I love how the Guardians of the Universe looked but I wish that it wasn't like pulling teeth when it comes to talking to them. I got a little annoyed whenever they were quiet for too long.
Just curious,
Do they save money by cutting scenes?
Just trying to figure out the logic behind it.
