The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 5

Aside from the green fist he accidentally used before his trip to Oa, when were his constructs "weak"? Cause to me they looked just as intricate and creative throughout the film
During his training. It was pretty obvious. Sinestro said it himself.

I pay attention to dialogue and in this case that's all there was with this movie .... just one giant hand-holding marathon devoid of "show me".
They did planning of showing and doing. You just can't see to get it or understand the whole thing.

It is his ring, his memories, his sector. That's plenty of motive.

.... Never once in the film does Parallax say that nor is it implied. All he states is something like "I defeated who previously wore that ring and now I will defeat you." .....

I know your fighting a one man battle against many people. But you can't keep making snide comments about how we just didn't understand the movie.

Side Note: you haven't answered my question from before

He didn't answer my question either.

SuperDaniel: Why did they change Martin Jordan's death in the movie? What purpose did it serve?

I imagined Parallax being defeated like in "Green Lantern: Rebirth". Hal Jordan, Sinestro, Kilowog and Tomar-Re are fighting Parallax in Earth or Oa or Space, and basically, Parallax starts to project their fears in front of them. Hal and his father's death. Tomar-Re and his failure in saving a planet (Nod to Krypton). Kilowog and possible death of his trainees. Sinestro and Korugar is turmoil and chaos. Then, they all start to chant the Green Lantern oath, and exorcise their demons.

Hal says he doesn't care if his father died with fear, because he died a hero and that's what matters.

Tomar-Re comes into grips with his mistakes and says that, although it doesn't make it up, he saved countless lives beyond those he failed to rescue, and that counts for something.

Kilowog claims that he is a damn good trainer, and his students are most likely to kick their enemies' asses than to be defeated for them.

Sinestro, however, garantees that he will never allow Korugar to crumble into chaos. No matter what happens, order will overcome chaos, and Parallax will pay if he gets in Sinestro's way.

They all exorcise Parallax from their bodies and transport his essence, through their rings, to the Central Power Battery in Oa, where the Guardians trap the essence of fear itself into the Battery, completelly overpowered by the ability of all Lanterns to overcome fear, too weak to talk, move or act.
They obviously didn't have the money for that. Would it be better and awesome? Absolutely. As a fan I wanted to see that. And now that the origin is out of the way, it would be great to do it.

But this was Hal`s journey and his origin and not Sinestro, Toma-Re or Kilowog.

Sorry you don't pay attention to questions before you answer them. LEt me spell it out: Why did Parallax start his trip to Oa at the beginning of the film when he said himself towards the end of the film that he needed all the fear from Earth to be able to defeat the Guardians?

Why did he start heading to Oa in the first place?

He can't answer that. Again, another convoluted story element.

Was it pretty obvious? Name one

Yes, Sinestro said "Your constructs are weak." So.. name one
Plataform that couldn`t hold 2 rocks, chains that flickered, weak brick walls...

How about that?:whatever::whatever:

It was his willpower, defined by his Oath reciting scene, that made him overcome Parallax, defend himself, create a powerful force shield and strong construct that cut through the enemy.

It was his willpower that made him fly through space and through asteroid fields and beat Parallax speed.

It was his willpower that created jets stronger than the Gravitational pull of the sun. It was his will power that made him not get sucked and also punch Parallax one more time, paralleling the first construct Hal made with his ring.

I guess we didnt watch the same movie.

In the movie I watched the thing that actually killed Parallax was the Sun. What killed him in yours?

"your Constucts are Strong"
sounds a little bit like "The Force is strong in this one'.
And I am sure they didnt want to go there.

He didn't answer my question either.

how was it changed? His dead died in a plane explosion and crash. WTF man. Seriously.:whatever::whatever:

Precisely why I said before that as someone who didn't know the mythos, the whole "Will vs. Fear" element felt like a cheap "The Force" knockoff from Star Wars .... and if you want to do something like that, it must be developed over the long haul like the original Star Wars trilogy.

How was that "weak"? His brick wall looked exactly like Sinestro's brick wall. Exactly the same. His constructs against Parallax never faced physical opposition so there's no way to compare the two.

Again, his constructs -- from his training on Oa to the end of the film -- looked exactly the same in design and depth. How would anyone know which are considered "weak" and which are "strong"?

I believe previous scripts showed him dying being a hero. Also the way his death was inter-cut with the dogfight took away the impact of showing the entire death scene.

It just came off like he was creating stuff .... I didn't get anything other than he started making things more familiar to him as the film progressed. Not that one was stronger than the next.

Green Lantern 101 knowledge coming at ya:

Marin Jordan died while steering his crashing plane away from Ferris airfield, saving the lives of the people who were watching the test flight (including his son). In Geoff Johns' retcon he even adds that the plane could also have gone down over Coast City. Martin CHOSE to go down with the plane to save innocent lives, and THIS is where Hal Jordan for the first time in his life realizes with his own two eyes what being fearless means.

Again, why would they change that in the film when it is integral to Hal Jordan's character?

Where was it said that he was going to OA? I gathered that he was just sucking fear of many sectors, on the way to OA, since he was imprisioned in the LOST sector, obviously really far away. Do you need a map of the sectors or something?

I believe the strength of a construct is how it holds up to whatever its going up against; hence why Sinestro was just breaking through Hal's so easily.

Hal Jordan defeated it with his will and wisdom. :o:o:whatever:

Hal Jordan tricked Parallax into getting sucked into the Sun. And, in the end, Sinestro saved him from being sucked in too.

That is irrefutable fact that played out in the film

Do you realize that you contradicted yourself all in one sentence? Seriously man, you said it yourself: Parallax was on his way to Oa

How can Parallax, this thing that has flown across the universe, be stupid enough to get sucked into a star? It clearly understands the concepts of heat and gravity.

About to say the same thing; Hal Jordan sees his father being fearless by saving people and risking his own life. I really enjoyed how in the first draft they paralleled the death scene twice by saving people at the air show and saving Carol from dying in the jet crash into the mountain.

Sinestro says Parallax is on his way to Oa.
