The Official Halo thread!

i think it is more maybe Neill will be more interested in like 2 -3 years type of thing once the bad taste goes away

YAY!

IESB has posted an interesting scoop saying that Steven Spielberg is in talks to produce Halo: The Fall of Reach, screenwriter Stuart Beattie's adaptation of the Eric Nylund novel that is based on the series of video games. Here's an excerpt from their article:

IESB has learned exclusively (believe me this is solid and I've confirmed it three times over with studio executives and our close ties to CAA) that one of the biggest producers in Hollywood history is currently in active negotiations to develop the feature film adaptation and no it's not Jerry Bruckheimer or Peter Jackson. It's the man behind Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Transformers, Mr. Steven Spielberg.

Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's the perfect combination.

For more on this, head here! 20th Century Fox and Universal's previous attempt at bringing the game to the big screen fell apart. District 9 producer Peter Jackson and director Neill Blomkamp were attached to that version.

I hope that Jackson will somehow be involved and if Spielberg doesn't direct, then please let Neil.

Well Spielberg produced the Transformers movies, which suck. But I know what he's capable of. So I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm going to venture to guess that if Spielberg is involved Jackson won't be, maybe the same for Neill. I just hope Spielberg doesn't bring along Bay and cast Labeouf. :o

Spielberg.......................

I do not foresee good things.

He's a double-edged sword. On one hand, he knows how to make great drama films. On the other hand, his blockbuster films have, in my opinion, been progressively getting worse. If he could find a perfect balance between sci-fi and drama then I'd be comfortable with the Halo property in his hands. But for now, all I have to do is think of "War of the Worlds" and worry.

Well Bungie will be highly involved so that hopefully will keep the quality in check. It's great that this thing is out of hell, but now all we can hope for is a good director. If Spielberg directs, we will be alright. If he produces, we need to be cautious until a director is announced.

I truly think that if Distric 9 is a hit then Neil will be looked at very closely. I even think he will be offered the gig.

I hope so.

This doesn't surprise me, Spielberg's had a recent interest in video games.

Neill already stated several times that it was kind of heartbreaking investing so much time into the Halo project for it to fall apart at the last minute and he also said he wouldn't direct even if approached.

Then again minds always change in Hollywood so I guess we'll see.

As for Spielberg now being attached as producer I can't say I'm completely happy about this.

I feel it can now turn into a pandering, bloated and obnoxious piece of film (TF2 style). Then again its not like Fox and Universal (more so Fox) would have offered anything better.

It all really depends on who they hire as director and I hope they bring in another writer with a tad more credibility than Beattie (who isn't all bad but not the greatest either, especially for Halo).

I'm just hoping that Spielberg doesn't pick a Michael Bay type director for this film. Neill Bloomkamp would definitely be my pick of choice and seeing as Jackson and Spielberg are friends and currently working on Tin Tin its not all that out of the question.

Another positive with Spielberg is that this will get a big budget. Although I liked Neil's gritty feel of his youtube videos, it would cost a lot of money to do this series justice and the Jackson/Neil movie would have still easily been upwards of 100 million. I think that is one of the reasons that Fox/Paramount was weary about due to the string of bad video game movies.

i have no idea why people are excited... speilberg produced transformers..with michael bay directing.

Exactly, I'm cautiously worried. Because this can go astray rather easily.

Exactly why I mentioned Labeouf and Bay. I can picture Spielberg reading the script and thinking of a way to turn this into another TF franchise.

Eh, District 9 was made with a budget of $30 million, according to some the movie has some of the best CGI to date. The budget for a Neill/Jackson Halo movie wouldn't have been one of my concerns.

He's also produced Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Flags of our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima and Tiny Toons.

Give the man credit where credit is due.

so Neil and Jackson would make the perfect movie and spielberg the worst?

Yeah, it's pretty sad when fanboys hear about El Spielbergo attached to a project and are less than enthused. He has been the end all, be all for decades.

Well I think with his name attached we can actually get this thing made. Be grateful for that. And I don't know why everyone thinks he's gonna cast Shia in this. He's not stupid people. And I doubt Bay's gonna direct.

Shia as Master Chief?

Cortana: Are you gonna need a weapon?

MC: A weapon? Wah-wah, what? Nonononononononononono.....

LOL!

Although, I wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson come back on board as a producer.

Since PJ and Spielberg are working together on a few Tin Tin movies i would think it be akward if Spielberg didn't ask him too come on board in some compasity
