The Official Halo thread!

Since PJ and Spielberg are working together on a few Tin Tin movies i would think it be akward if Spielberg didn't ask him too come on board in some compasity
Weta already designed alot of props(fully working Warthog) so Spielberg should go with them.

At the comic con panel with Jackson and Bloomkamp its interesting to note that while Neill almost completely knocks down the idea of directing a Halo movie and moving on to his other original idea, Jackson still said he would like to be involved in a Halo movie because he really enjoys the mythology.

So the fact that he would still like to be involved in a Halo project is nice.

In the end though its Spielbergs choice. Another thing to note that the IESB article mentions is that at E3 this year Steven was one of the guest speakers during the Natal presentation for Microsoft revealing that they were working together on unnamed projects. I'm sure it helps to a certain degree being partners with the company who is so closely intertwined with Bungie.

Either way its good to see the project taking off the ground. Spielberg usually works pretty well when its a team effort. So we'll see how it turns out.

He likely would off PJ to direct for sounds too me Jackso has alot more passion to have this made into a film and can you imagine in PJ and Staurt Beattie one of the 3 writers who did Pirates Of The Caribbean. 1.

Hmmmm. Spielberg....I can work with....Staurt Beattie....Thats...Uhhh...Well I'd rather have Alex Garland's Halo Script.

Man...Imagine Spielberg and Jackson Producing...With Neill Behind the Directors chair. PURE GOLD! Although I know Neill's stand on a Halo Film.

Now about that whole "Fall of Reach" Im not really for. Don't get me wrong its a great read. But I'd rather see the adaptations of Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3...

For example Alex Garland's "Halo" Script tell the story a bit of "Fall of Reach" in the beginning of the film. While Chief Is dreaming or something. I'd go with Garlands Script. But Spielberg would be a good choice to produce it. I know for a fact the film would be visually wow...but can the story hold the same ground as the effects...thats a different story.

While I would like either version, I would love it if they adapted Fall of Reach. However, the only problem you have with that is that it means you're actually going to see Masterchief's face.

Hollywood has done this in the past before when it comes to unmasking heroes or villans. But I just want a really good halo film. To prove that Video Games Adapations can be succesful under the right hands. Hopefully "Halo" will do such a thing.

Man...But when I got to ask Jackson and Bloomkamp that question at Comic Con...It was great.

The script review for Garland's draft sounded good.

It's sad, I always imagined that great operatic Halo theme to start playing when the Universal logo started to rotate out.

I just played Halo 3 from beginning to end in two nights last week and the imagery in the game is indeed quite stunning. In the midst of all the hype and hoopla I never got a proper chance to fully appreciate it. It also got me thinking - a Halo film cannot rely on Master Chief's story alone. You'll need to show a parallel journey with Johnson and his squad to add a bit more gravitas and vulnerability to the protagonists for the audience to much easily connect with the film world and its characters. It is difficult to accomplish this with the Master Chief alone since he will be behind a mask all the time. And I prefer that it is kept that way throughout because Master Chief as a completely faceless and anonymous character can better serve the story not just as an individual, but as a representation of humanity's collective fighting spirit. From the random marine chatter in the game, you can see that being the last Spartan, he is generally viewed as a messianic savior figure so the mystique around his identity will definitely help. His story in the trilogy follows the same idea as well - he is revived from cryo-sleep in times of peril in the beginning of the first game and then goes back into the chamber at the end of the third when the threat is eliminated.

The Halo universe is a goldmine of compelling themes and is the perfect material for a modern sci-fi war epic. Let's hope the film gets the proper writers and filmmakers who will do justice to the material.

I always thought I could direct a "Halo" Film ;) Lol. j/k...but if I ever do become a director one day...This is the film I will do. Promice.

Just putting it out there. Who would everyones cast be for a Halo Film?

Cortana and The Chief would be the original acors...... they change that, then they've already screwed a lot of halo fans out of watching a movie.

Johnson would be a difficult one to cast IMHO......

Johnson is Carl Weathers.

Keyes is Ed Harris.

Carl Weathers as Johnson? Awesome, though you'd be repeating his character in Predator. Be cool if Cameron could work on this. He would be a right fit. He'd probably cast the dude who played Apone in Aliens.

Why not just have David Scully play Johnson? That's who voices him and he looks a lot more like the character than who you mentioned. He'd just need a little makeup to make him look older.

I hope Spielberg will let Jackson involved, since (I guess) they're friends & he still wants to do Halo.

He better not cast Shia. With Bungie on board, I don't think they will let their franchise be plowed into the ground by hackery.

With Spielberg, it could be great or crap.

One of the best things I have always loved about Halo is the ambiance in some of the games as well as the mystique it has too. If they try to just make some action movie with basic attempts at mystique, it will be crap.

I want to be trembling in my seat when The Flood are about to be introduced.

Well it's not like he hasn't done it four times before.
you mena transformers, eagle eye and indiana jones? because tranformers 2 is a sequel. so he was automatic inside.

are those movies futuristuc war movies and was he cast as an older character? or was he in those movies a kid?

Maintaining the particular tone that Bungie went for in the series is pretty important I think.

It doesn't have to be a carbon copy but at least a good interpretation while borrowing the cinematic elements that worked.

If treated like a complete action movie with little emphasis on plot then I'm not to sure how it'll work (well at least).

It certainly is quite awesome. So many possibilities.
