The Official 'I Still Love The Hulk TV Show' Thread

Well, he probably did it. I don't think one specific person did it for the entire show. I also heard they used animal growls, is that true?

The growls sounded pretty consistant from season 2-4, so i don't see how they could have used different ppl, as they sounded like pre-recordings.

There were a lot of times when the growls were different in different episodes. I kept reading that they used animal growls and sometimes people did growls for the Hulk.

I'm watchin season 2 on dvd right now. ''Married' is still awesome. I just went over to Amazon to try and order season 3. I didn't know it hadn't been released yet.

I think that, along with the pilot, may be my favorite episode. In Married there are no less than, count 'em, SEVEN Hulk scenes. The Banner vs Hulk scenes are so great and like something right out of the best stories from the comic.

I don't think this has ever been posted, but here is a link to Bryan's Incredible Hulk page which I think is one of the THE BEST tribute sites on the net. It's been around for years and IMO is the best online resource for the show. He used to post a full episode every week, and you can still find plenty of the clips he made on YouTube.

You can get lost on this page for hours. In the special features section there is even the Johnson commentary from the Pilot.
Enjoy.

Thanks, man, I just thought about this site recently (funny this is that I had a dream you posted this site earlier this week, no joke :wow:) so thanks for posting it.

I loved the way Banner describe's the first Metamorphosis in 'Married' to the Dr. while, under Hypnosis, as (and i paraphrase, cause i don't know the exact words):

"something was happening. It was like 100 ppl all screaming at once; like a locomotive beginning to roll; a force was welling up inside me; my muscles surged with a life all by themselves".

Awesome delivery by Bixby.

I felt that there wasn't even one time where Bixby's character came off as corny or not having any feeling in his lines. He's still got the best David/Bruce Banner and I just wish he would've lived on to appear in the new movies.

There were a lot of times when the growls were different in different episodes. I kept reading that they used animal growls and sometimes people did growls for the Hulk.

If memory serves, Ted Cassidy passed away in 1979, during Season 2 production. At some point in the season you can tell that they lost their voice for the show. They experimented with lots of different sounds after that point. As I recall, the roars during the episode "The Disciple" were particularly awful. I don't know who or what was used for them. Thankfully, sometime around Season 3 the sound guys must have settled (more or less) on a new 'voice' for the Hulk. I've never heard the story of Napier doing them, but with his deep, gruff voice it's entirely possible - especially of they pitched his natural voice down 1/4 to make it even meaner.

For my money though, nothing tops Big Ted's subterranean vocal talents. His voice synced to Lou's angry face just made the character live.

Golgo-13...

The remaining three seasons are due out a week or two before the movie debuts. Keep watching your favorite online retailers. If you can hold off, DeepDiscount will most likely have their bi-annual 20% off everything sale, and you can pick any or all of them up for a nice price.:woot:

I went to target today and as I looked for DVD's, I kept my eyes peeled for any of the Incredible Hulk DVD's but alas, I didn't see any.

What season was the one where Banner was on the run with 3 female prisoners (one i believe was pregnant), and they were running through a quarry, and a rock dropped on his hand, and he Hulked out?

I just finished watching season 2's commentary with Kenneth Johnson and i had no idea that the Hulk's green skin was actually green grease/oil, and would come off on everything! Can't believe Johnson wanted to change the Hulks green skin color ,for the pilot, to red (for anger) but Marvel/Stan Lee shot him down!

I found this digging around some sites about Ted Cassidy. Plus some of these facts belong on this thread:

What Was The Opening Narration Of The Show?

The opening narration of the show was performed by the late Ted Cassidy (best known for his role as Lurch on TV's The Addams Family). It went like this:

"Doctor David Banner, physician, scientist, searching for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all humans have. Then an accidental overdose of gamma radiation alters his body chemistry. And now, when David Banner grows angry or outraged, a startling metamorphosis occurs. The Creature is driven by rage and pursued by an investigative reporter".

"Mister McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."

The Creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit. David Banner is believed to be dead, and he must let the world think that he is dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him...

How Did They Create The Hulk's Voice?

Initially, Ted Cassidy did the growls for the Hulk but he passed away in 1979. Later, dubbed animal growls were used for thecreature's throaty screams.

Did A Different Actor Play The Hulk At The Beginning Of The Series?

No. The Hulk was always played by Lou Ferrigno. They did change his make-up a number of times, however. This has occasionally led to the impression that someone else played the Hulk. Initially, Richard Kiel was SUPPOSED to play the Hulk, but it always was Lou Ferrigno who actually played the creature.
Kiel actually did a few weeks of shooting on the original TV movie but was dropped from the role in favour of the mighty-looking Lou Ferrigno. According to Ken Johnson, there is one shot of Mr. Kiel in the pilot movie. There's an overhead shot of the Hulk when he pushes over the tree to help the little girl that has fallen in the lake. In that shot (which comes and goes very quickly), you can see Richard Kiel in the Hulk makeup.

Who Played The Demi-Hulk? UPDATED!

The "Demi-Hulk" is an expression used to describe the half-transformed David Banner. For some "demi-Hulk" shots, Bixby, with Hulk Make-Up was used. For others, Ferrigno, with some Hulk make-up was used. For still other shots, wrestler Ric Drasin played the demi Hulk

Surprisingly, I actually have that episode recorded on VHS & watched it earlier this week.

Yeah, I read about that on Wikipedia and a few other sites, it would've been pretty cool to have gotten a red Hulk back then. :word:

I have to say that one of my MANY favorite episodes were, "747", "Stop The Presses", and "Equinox". I loved it when Magee would get close to David, and the Hulk- which would cause David to panic! Oh, and "Interview With The Hulk" was great too! Poor Magee, he always came so close to discovering the truth, but David would get away just by the skin of teeth! The Incredible Hulk was probably the best comic to TV show of All-Time, IMO.

One of the best, I bet if that formula were to be re-used but with different stories, it could still work today, assuming they'd get some good actors and incorporate more of the characters from the comics.

I always wondered why the Sci-Fi Channel never thought of tapping Marvel's shoulder about another live-action Hulk television series. It'd be perfect.

Yeah, especially with the advanced CGI and make-up and prosthetics we have now adays. All they'd have to do is get a more accomplished actor as Bruce Banner and choose whether or not they want a CGI Hulk.

Real actor, or CGI- it wouldn't matter to me. But if we want to see the Hulk accomplish those incredible feats of strength, especially leaping- then CGI would probably be the way to go. Who knows? If the movie is "Spider-Man" successful, and if we barked loud enough for another show, we might be heard.

We need one since it's been over twenty years since the last show ended. I say that if they use CGI, they should go for the look from the 1996 animated series, that'd be cool to see once made into a CGI creature.
