Days of Future Past The Official James McAvoy/Professor Xavier Thread - Part 1

And where do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

Melbourne, Australia.

Yeah it would be a great shame if James' performance didn't make it into some countries' cinemas :csad:

Personally, I hate the idea. Don't get me wrong, I very much want Charles involved in the story and more so than just using Cerebro for the millionth time. But...jeez, what a message. He can't do anything unless he can walk?

I feel rather iffy about the "magic cure" as well, for the reasons you and Loganbabe mentioned. But to be fair, we're talking about an action summer blockbuster, not an inspirational character piece about dealing with paralysis, and Charles just could never keep up with the action and the rest of the characters if he's in a wheelchair all the time. I just hope that if he does walk at some point in the movie it's dealt with intelligently and not as some stupid fix-everything just to make a character active again.

I definitely see the reasoning behind it. It is an action summer blockbuster with a character that's confined to a wheelchair; that's hard for even the best writers to sort out. And in sci-fi, one of the things that makes it such an amazing genre, is that anything is possible.

On the flip side, if you pick up any book about writing and storytelling, one of the lessons that's always there is...never, ever give the character a magic fix for their problems. No gods coming down to clean up the mess...no magic pill that will cure what ails you. It's considered a big no-no; the character has to either overcome their problem, even if they are never fully rid of it.

If they do decide to go this route, my guess is it'll be to both give Xavier a chance to be in the action, and to correlate with X3 and X-men Origins: Wolverine (both sucky movies I wish we could just take a magic pill to forget).

But in any case, whatever the "cure" is, it seems like it's only temporary.

Or...maybe Xavier is using a mental projection of himself in the scene where he's standing. He is a telepath, after all. :)

GuestStar...that is too hilarious!!!

as for mcavoys active role

listing on IMDB

Kent Thomson - stunt double: James McAvoy

so he either gets some wheelchair action or there is more to it :p

interesting question and answer for the mcavoy fans

"Are there any practical jokers among the stars of Days Of Future Past? #XMen #AskSinger" --from Charlene John Crisp on Facebook

Yes. Two words. James. McAvoy. #IHaveTheFootageOnMyiPhone

I have to admit, while I'm happy to ignore the walking in he past issues, it would be pretty cool if that is addressed in this film. It's one of the more prominent continuity issues and fixing it could help massively in locking the films together.

That's one of the main reasons I think they'll have him up and walking (I really don't mind contradicting X3 and XO:W--those movies aren't worthy of continuity, IMO).

At the very least, I just hope they don't sit there and try to make it a "tease" in the trailers and movie stills, especially if he spends a big chunk of the movie on his feet. If it was a big part of the climax (like him getting shot), then I could see it. But having that "maybe he is, maybe he isn't" game in all the previews will be a major pain in the butt.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow!...maybe.

i look forward to seeing the scene between the 2 xaviers which i'm guessing will be in the trailer as it apparently was in the comic con one

Oh, I had a little hope that you lived in the US and they had already set a distribution deal, hence the poster...but yeah, I know it'll be released in Australia and Japan, and some European countries, but nothing for North and South America, Africa and Asia (except Japan) so far. :csad:

If you see it please write a brief review here. ;)

I agree, Nerial, it would be awful and cheapen everything Charles went through. I hope that, if he's really cured/walking, they keep it out of the trailer so that whatever happens in the film it'll have the same impact as, like you said, Charles being shot and paralyzed.

There are ways of dealing with a cure for Charles that can fit nicely in the context of the story (especially concerning Trask and nanotechnology), and if that means he can be an active participant in the action, I will have it. From the moment it was decided that the story would happen ten years after First Class I gave up on the "Charles dealing with his paralysis" arc, and I didn't really know what to expect for the character other than have him stuck inside the mansion, using Cerebro and receiving a visitant from the future. Charles walking offer other possibilities and will also fit continuity. Although I REALLY think it would be interesting to have a paraplegic man inserted in a summer blockbuster action, I'm also a realist - it won't happen in CBMs.

Sure will! :yay:

McAvoy's little rant about not wanting the future was well done in the trailer. Seeing him and Sir Patrick face to face was epic.

I did notice that the person who spoke the most in the entire trailer was either younger or older Xavier. That was kind of cool.

And I like McAvoy's hair extensions. I know some people have been critical of them, but now that I've seen this trailer, I see what a mess he is; it makes perfect sense.

It reminds me of the scene in "Braidmaids" where Melissa McCarthy hugs Kristen Wigg and says, "You gotta wash that hair, girl. You gotta wash that hair." :)

That makes two of us! I'm also ready excited to see young and old Magneto interact. I dont know if my body will be able to handle this movie :wow: :oldrazz: :hehe:

Will young and old Magneto interact? I was under the impression Charles was able to communicate with his older self because of his telepathy.

it would be cool to have mckellen and fassbender have a scene together too, but i wouldn't bank on it

I've no idea. I'm speculating, since i'm trying to stay as spoiled free as possible :cwink: If you know for sure, dont tell me lol

I'm confident that won't happen, but I'd love to see it. Talk about a "think of your life, think of your choices" moment if there ever was one.

McAvoy's intense delivery at the end of the trailer was a highlight for me!

I don't know what looks more awesome, Xavier's hippy hair or Trask's porn star mustache.

Oh, finally saw the trailer in HD...amazing, amazing!

The James/Patrick scene will be the highlight if the film, I'm sure. Can't wait to see them being brilliant thespians together! :awesome:
