The Official Jimmy Olsen Casting & Discussion Thread

Clark is noticeably older than Jimmy.

IMO Early 20s Clark in the script means a teenage Jimmy Olsen (16-18).

We got an older Jimmy in his 20s in Superman Returns, mainly because it was "5 years later" and Clark/Superman was supposed to be in the 30 range.
I think we just disagree on the age that Clark is supposed to be in the movie. I see no younger than 25, you do though. I've always seen Jimmy close to Clarks age but clearly younger by like 5-6 years. I just think if you put Johnny Simmons next to Cavill, he'll just look way too young.

You know you might be right there actually.

And him calling clark "Mr. Kent" never felt right to me. LIke if they're really that close in age he'd just call him clark or even C.K. like in Lois and Clark and Smallville.

I'm open in the age debate, just don't pass off someone who's clearly or close to the same age as Clark then have him calling him "Mr. Kent". Wrong on so many levels.

I prefer jimmy as a 17-19 year old photo journalist intern working for the DP. Makes more sense in this day and age versus a "cub" reporter...i mean do they even use that term anymore?

Honestly, I like how Jimmy was portrayed in 'Birthright' and in the modern comics: just a cool but still meek college-age kid. Drop the bowtie. Give him a bedhead hair. Make him modern.

I'm going by the official casting call. It revealed Clark is a freelance journalist in his early 20s.

Cavill could pass for that age easily IMO. Especially with all the makeup they're bound to pad on him, like they did for Reeve/Routh.

Jimmy needs to be noticeably younger than Clark and Lois.

I'm going by the official casting call too. 25 is the oldest of the early 20's.

I would say that's mid 20s.. :oldrazz:

Early 20s is more like someone fresh out of college, around 22 perhaps.

I think they're going so young with Clark intentionally, since he travels home to Smallville to discover his origins and become Superman after his freelance mission overseas.

Again, no offense to Cavill, but he does not look young 20s in that sense at all.

And to be honest, considering that they were considering Manganiello and Goode in the role, I don't think the early 20's Superman is concrete.

I just think there are a lot of Jimmy Olsen choices that could work, so casting this role won't be that hard. Anton is probably a good popular choice though.

There's no need to always bring up simultaneous threads about the same character/topic. You did this with Zod as well, bringing up older threads when you could have posted in the thread on the first page.

I post in the thread that came first. How is that wrong?

Why post in a thread with older posts so that there are now two threads on the same topic near the top and people don't know which one to post in. One of the Zod threads was closed because you brought it back up (and it was posted first) while another was more active.

Add it to the existing thread and people can read through the 1 million suggestions of Anton instead of posting it again :D lol

can jimmy be black, asian / other races?

I suppose. Perry and Jimmy/ maybe Lex depending on calibur of actor are probably the roles that could be a little more outside the box.

Jimmy and Perry are both white and should be cast as such. Please don't bring the ridiculous ethnicity debate into here

Old white guy yelling at a young black guy under him. It could read as racist behavior to some, even if it isn't. I'm just saying.

Apparently the story covers his life from childhood to manhood, so I wouldn't be surprised if the "freelance journalist in his early 20's" applies to his travels but by the time he comes to Metropolis and gets a job at the Daily Planet he'd be into the latter half of his 20's.

That's what I think Zero. He'll be almost 30 by the time he works at DP.

i agree i hate when movies do that ,change the race of a character just to get some more ethnicity's in a film i hate pc casting just as much as racist casting.

Do you agree that some people, particularly blacks would be offended if Jimmy were a young black man being yelled at by an old white guy as Perry
