Most of these choices dont make sense. I mean Javier Bardem looks nothing like Sinestro and i could say the same for DD Lewis who i dont think would ever play in a comic book movie. They re both good actors but that's not enough.
I voted for Weaving and Fiennes because to me they look the part and they re terrific actors. Dalton would also be great for the role and he's good with the stache as seen in the Flash movie, but i fear he's too old now.

Anyway, has Sinestro been confirmed for the movie? I mean, i dont know, is Sinestro the first villain Hal fights in the comics? I suppose even if he is not evil, they'll have to show him in the corps before he turns, so he'll have to be in the movie.

yes he has been confirmed to be in the film, we just dont know if he will turn rouge in the film.

I say no to both Fiennes and Weaving. Both great actors, but both are already best known for playing villains in big Warner Bros franchises. It would seem a bit old hat casting them as Sinestro.

Of course Daniel Day Lewis would never do it in a million years, hence the term DREAM choice. But in the alternate universe where he WOULD play the part, he'd absolutely knock it out the park, and he looks near enough Sinestro to me. But like I said, never going to happen, so we need to think more realistically.

I just think they should think a little outside the box, cast a good strong actor who can generate fireworks opposite Ryan Reynolds, rather than just going for a tenured "villain actor" with a big forehead. Here were a few more unconventional choices I have suggested in the past:

PADDY CONSIDINE

(Suggested before for Hector Hammond, and is inspired casting for that role, but could perhaps pull off Sinestro too).

I tried to think of actors who it might be a bit of a stretch envisioning as Sinestro, talented folk who have not necessarily played this type of character before, rather than going for obvious choices or people who have portrayed Sinestro-type personalities often.

Though if we want to talk about "obvious choices", I think the often-mentioned Jason Isaacs would be excellent in the role. And Damian Lewis I think is a great fit too.

1) I dont know any of these guys.
2) I assume that you mean that Fiennes is playing Voldemort, but what villain is Weaving playing? And anyway, why does it matter if Fiennes is playing Voldemort? He's almost unrecognizable without a nose.

Weaving is best known for his role in another WB sci-fi franchise - Agent Smith in The Matrix. He was also previously in a WB/DC comic book movie with V For Vendetta. He is also currently playing a villain in a franchise (albeit in voice only) with Megatron in Transformers.

Fiennes is best known for Voldemort, but has also played noteworthy villains in Schindler's List and Red Dragon.

I wouldn't complain if either was cast - both are great - but I just think they should go for a choice that's a little less obvious.

I know they ve been in those movies but i thought you were referring to roles that they re currently playing.
Fiennes was also in the English Patient btw. I cant believe you forgot about that. :oldrazz:

Btw, i was wrong, i know that last guy, he's Sirius' friend from Harry Potter.
Also, i couldnt resist:

If they got PADDY CONSIDINE as Sinestro, it would be awesome.

At least he's a comic fan. A couple of years back I read an interview with him where they asked what his dream role would be. He replied that it had always been Wolverine, so he was devastated when they made a movie and Hugh Jackman got the role instead of him. :woot:

Something makes me think Considine would make a great Hector Hammond. Maybe it was the mustache in Hot Fuzz. :cwink:

i dont think i seen this considine's work before. So i dont know what to think of him.

A VERY different type of character from Sinestro, but this might give you a hint of his acting ability:

Is this just a casting thread? Or anything Sinestro movie related?

Movie Sinestro's motivation, ideas:
Besides the others established in the comics in Emerald Dawn II,
in recent comics Sinestro says the reason he hates Hal Jordan and the other Green Lanterns, maybe even Earth, is because it reminds him that his only friend (Abin Sur) is dead.

Are they going to do anything to make Sinestro's ill intentions less obvious? Particularly, HIS NAME? I mean, they could just put a lampshade on it, but I'm not sure how effective that will be will the non-fan audience. I mean, it's like "duh, he's got red skin, yellow eyes, looks like friggin' Satan, and his name is Sinestro. How did they let this guy into the GL Corps in the first place?" :p

So after watching Sherlock Holmes for the second time yesterday...what about Mark Strong as Sinestro?

Strong is great, but I think it's getting to the point where he's being typecast as the villain in everything. He was the villain in Holmes, he's a villain in Robin Hood, I think he's a villain in Kick Ass...
