The Official Mark Strong & Sinestro Thread - Part 1

Discuss who you want for Green Lantern's chilling nemesis and supporting character in the new Green Lantern movie. Discuss casting, characterization, appearance, and more...

Someone on the Green Lantern casting thread suggested Mads Mikkelsen from "Casino Royale" as the cold hearted former Green Lantern. And I think that's quite an interesting choice. As is Hugo Weaving and Daniel Day-Lewis.

:gl:

The James Marsden choice on the poll was an accident.

"the greatest thing about this trailer was Sinestro"

I totally agree that the great thing about the trailer was Sinestro.

It's funny that Hugo Weaving was one of the choices to play Sinestro but he ended up playing Red Skull instead.

Mark Strong was DEFINATELY A good choice for Sinestro, he was probably the best cast out of all of GL's cast members.

LOL those costumes look terrible. Why is Sinestro caucasian?

it was of course cliche to hire Strong. and he as an actor is playing to many villains. but he is good at what he does. and good for us that he is having make up.

hes voice and acting will of course own as Sinestro.

To be fair he's not actually playing a villain in this film.

he was cast as Sinestro who is a known villain. its not like he will be Hal's best friend in this movie.

True but even at the start Sinestro wasn't a real villain, he just opposed the guardians methods.

but Strong was cast as the big important GL villain in mind.

I agree, I just don't think we'll see much of it in this movie, that's something for the sequel imo.

i hope they dont rush him as teh villain in the sequel. it should be some good character development.

It's clear from that footage that they are pushing him as this great spokesperson for the GL's, one that the others look up to - kind of like how you see the 'best worker' in any given office.

And that's going to give his turn against the Guardians all the more resonance.

Maybe it was 'cliche' and 'obvious' to hire Strong, but he's a good actor so that isn't much of a problem. Even from that short clip you can tell he has brought a lot of depth to the role. You can sense that he has enough pomposity about him to eventually strike out on his own and turn bad but you can also see that he has devotion to the Corps (even if it's not to the Guardians themselves)

If it was obvious, then you'd think someone might have suggested him before he was cast. We had much more creative suggestions floating around, like elrond, and jason isaacs.

It was one of those obvious things that came out of nowhere, you know? :oldrazz:

I love Jason Isaacs - the fella just has to get one of these roles at some point, before father time takes effect. I wanted him for Sinestro but I think he would have made an amazing Zod [if they were looking to continue with the Stamp incarnation, which they're not].

Comic book Sinestro brought to life.

as cool as that shot is, and it is cool
I have seen similar in power rangers

At first I was iffy on him being cast as Sinestro but watching the Wondercon footage I think Strong's performance is going to be one of the movie's highlights, he really immerse himself into the role.
