Besthesda doesn't seem very interested in new gen remasters actually. It may never happen.

and I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one not impressed by the Witcher 3.
These PS4K rumors don't sound good. As owner of the original PS4 I'm not happy. It's annoying to think that I will not get to play the best version of The Last of Us 2 if PS4K happens. I'm not going to buy another console.
Showing your age again mate.how do you figure that? there have been critically acclaimed games that came out in the past 2 (first two) years alone
Showing your age again mate. All the gens I've been a part of have released a few all timers by now. The type of games you remember a decade later and often the basis of franchises that spawn sequels till the end of time. If you think of many of your favourite franchises, the original game (or the game that pushed a series into the stratosphere) often was released within the first few years of a generation. I don't even see a whole lot on the upcoming slate to get excited about that isn't a sequel to one of those games.

fair enough, right now I can only think of one: bloodborne. new IP, critically acclaimed.Showing your age again mate. All the gens I've been a part of have released a few all timers by now. I think there are 2 "wild card" factors that will determine how big of a deal the Neo will be.
1. Are all the graphics and performance benefits of the Neo only applicable when you run it on a 4K display. That point hasn't been addressed yet in the leaked info ( if it has, I missed it then ).
But, if the Neo is really only for consumers who have a 4K display, then that's going to make it a very niche upgrade and most of us PS4 owners who don't own a 4K display won't really be affected.
2. The other factor will be just how much of a difference in performance and graphics the Neo will offer.
For example, if the game running in base mode struggles to maintain FPS or suffers from horrible online lag in MP, while the Neo version doesn't suffer from those problems, that could be a big deal because there would be a clear performance quality advantage with the Neo.
Or, if the Neo can produce graphics that come close to higher end PCs.
For example, when you look at the Character Creators for games like Dragon Age Inquisition, the characters created on PC often look better than the ones on the console. There's better skin texture or the PC users can use Mods and such.
If the Neo is better able to match the graphics of PC or is better able to handle Mods ( once they do come to consoles ), and if you look at the regular PS4 version of the game and the Neo version side by side and you can tell a noticeable difference in graphical quality, then that would be a big deal.
Nothing of the leaked info mentions 4K display. In fact if this was about 4K gaming, the performance and graphics would be worse. The leaked report says that NEO games must be 1080p native, which is a step above the current PS4 which doesnt have to be
No the Neo wont be able to produce graphics comparable to high end PCs. The specs arent that impressive. The PS4 will still be midrange as the reported bump isnt that significant. I think this thing will be more about improving performance than visuals
And mods have nothing to do with anything as specs arent whats held them back.
well, then, we'll just have to see just how much a difference Neo will make.
If there isn't much of a difference, though, then that begs the question......why would Sony do this? Why would Sony risk fracturing its large PS4 consumer base? Why would Sony put extra work on devs to make 2 modes for games?
guess we'll find out soon.
Sony hasnt said anything yet and this is all still rumors. Obviously a Neo is coming btu the actual details need to be outlined by Sony. People really need to calm down and wait for them to explain this bc there's alot of assumptions and incorrect info being regurgitated

There's more at the link, but what it amounts to is what I've basically been saying all along: The PS4K, now codenamed Neo I guess, really isn't as a big step up as a lot kneejerked it would be, and the overall experience won't be all that different with the market being shared between the two. I'm sure that won't be enough for some people, though, since everyone loves their doom and gloom.
