I just picked up the first volume of Sandman, and I'm about ten pages in and so far it's okay at best. Does anyone know if the story picks up later, or is just not my cup of tea?

I don't know. I loved it from the start, so maybe it just isn't your cup of tea.

Okay guys/gals, I could do with some suggestions here, I have just finished a TPB and now have HUGE choice sitting in my cupboard of what to read next and I really cant decide, so I was hoping you would help me, here are the choices:

Superman/Batman:Supergirl
All Star Superman Vol.1
Annihilation:Book 1
Silver Surfer:Requiem
Planet Hulk
Transformers: War Within Vol. 1
Transformers:Infiltration
BPRD Vol. 2: Soul Of Venice and Others
Or Marvel/DC Crossovers Vol.4.
EDIT: Also have Origins:Wolverine by Joe Quesada as well waiting there.

Out of all these I honestly cant decide what to read next, little help here people?

Reading the Sandman got me into Mike Carey's Lucifer. I've bought up to vol 5 so far and i've enjoyed it a lot, but as i've gone through it doesn't now seem to be delivering quite what I initially thought it was going to. I had some big expectations of it and its now been a fair few months since i've read it. But just recently i had a browse through vol 1 of Preacher and it looks pretty good, and in a similar vein to Lucifer. So what would anyone suggest I do now? Persevere with Lucifer, or start Preacher?

I just read thru Life in the Big City,Family Album and Confession again,if you have not read this,I highly recommend that you pick up the trades.

My friend wants me to give her some stories to read, our favorites are Batman and Spider-Man, but she wants to broaden her superhero horizon. Keep in mind though that she hasn't read ANY graphic novels except for the Jodi Piccoult Wonder Woman which she really liked.

She's going to buy Watchmen to read, and she's really interested in Frank Miller. She loves Sin City. She also said she's interested in the history of the superheroes, of the deaths and replacements. But I feel like before I give her crisis on infinite earths or civil war or something I feel like I should start her off with some classic stories for the characters. I figure I start with Batman and Superman and work my way down. Though her interest in broadening her horizon makes me wonder if I should introduce some new heroes to her.

The list I have so far is:

watchmen
killing joke
year one
dark knight returns
DC: new frontier
kingdom come
red son

I think that's a good start, then I'd move onto some marvel. When I asked her if she'd be okay with reading older comics (my example was spider-man from the 60s and batman from the 40s) and she said yeah so that opens up a lot of new doors as well. For Marvel I'm thinking Marvels and the new Mythos book with all the painted origins of the superheroes. That'd be cool.

I want her to read All Star Superman, but I want her to have a better understanding of the Superman Mythos before I give that to her so that it still has the same resonance, same with whatever happened to the man of tomorrow.

Good idea. I'd suggest Superman For All Seasons.

She liked Picoult Wonder Woman? Seriously? Get her Wonder Woman the Hiketia, follwed by Down to Earth, Bitter Rivals, Eyes of the Gorgon, Land of the Dead, and Mission's End. You can also try God's and Mortals, and the Circle. The best Wonder Woman has to offer.

Has anyone ever recommended Powerless on here?

Goddamn this book is amazing.Read it over the summer.

Since apparently no one wants to do it, I might as well recommend Powers. It tells the story of homicide detective Christian Walker and his partner Deena Pilgrim, who solve cases involving superheros. The art is VERY cool, reminiscent of the DC animated universe. The writing... Well, the best I can say is that the storyline Forever (which tells the history of powers, going all the way back to the dawn of man) is Bendis' Watchmen. The rest of it is great as well, of course, but if I had to indicate a particular storyline, that'd be the one, hands down. (on a side note, it would make for one HELL of a tv show)

I'm about 6 trades into the series,very impressive.Bendis' best work alongside Alias and DD.

You know, I don't have anything bad to say about Powers. It, like Alias, is proof that Bendis doesn't suck all the time. Of course, I'm several trades behind in Powers, so I have no clue if he's keeping the quality up.

I just finished Vol.1 (trades 1-7) and it only gets better IMO.I've never snatched up such a large amount of trades or read this many in such a short period of time.Seriously hooked.

Vol.7 called Forever is just the perfect ending to this run.Everything after this was released by Icon,I hope the quality doesn't slip there.

I enjoyed these two. The second one compares well to the original TV episode. I can't comment about how well the first story compares because I don't recall watching that particular episode.

Hey guys. For an early christmas present, I got the animated Spawn collection. I watched all the episodes, loved them and went to see if I could find any Spawn comics. All I could find was the armageddon collection. I noticed that they also had Spawn vol. 2-6. I looked for vol. 1, but couldn't find it. Does anyone know if it's out of print or was I just out of luck? Could you also recommend any other good Spawn books? Thanks!

Sandwraith, check out Necronomicon from Boom Studios. If you like weird, dark tales of the occult, then I think you might like this. It's very good, and it's just getting started.
