for some reason I've always kept it on the backburner, finally stuck into reading it this last month, but Ennis and Dillon's 'Preacher' is ****ing amazing.
Anybody who enjoys long-form adult-themed serial comics like Gaiman's 'Sandman', Morrison's 'The Invisibles', or Ellis' 'Transmetropolitan' should love it.

For something a bit older and trickier to track down, check out Ted McKeever's 'Metropol' or 'Eddy Current'.

I've recently gotten back into comics and after such a long hiatus I am delighted in how many quality indy titles there are these days. Robert Kirkman is a modern-day Stan Lee. I have enjoyed many of his titles such as Invincible and The Walking Dead. I bought Preacher and The Boys although I haven't gotten a chance to read them much. The Last Man series is pretty entertaining. What else am I missing? In particular, titles that already have trade paperbacks.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Series in particular?
DMZ from Vertigo has been really good (think they're up the third trade on that), and pick up a single volume story from Vertigo called "The Other Side", which is really good.
Phonogram and The Nightly News from Image are both good (look them up first see if they're the sort of thing you're into).

Get Kirkman's Astounding Wolf-Man. Only a couple issues have come out so far, so it's easy enough to catch up on.

Invincible, DMZ, Hellboy, BPRD, Casanova, Fell, The Killer, Scalped...

Or I guess you could just look at my sig. ;)

Glad to see you've discovered Kirkman. If you like his stuff and the MU, definitely check out his Marvel Team-Up, and Marvel Zombies. His old series Brit and Battle Pope are also lots of fun.

Also from Image, check out Girls and Fell (INCREDIBLE book)

To be technical, Preacher and Y-The Last Man are DC. They're published through Vertigo, which is DC's Mature readers lines. It's hard to go wrong with any Vertigo title. Fables, Transmetropolitan, 100 Bullets, Sandman are all great series, and they have beautiful minis and graphic novels like Pride of Bahgdad, Orbiter, War Story, and others.

I would easily say Fables is one of, if not the, best titles on the stands today.

Wildstorm has some cool stuff, too, like The Authority, Planetary, and Ex Machina

Does anyone else here enjoy "The Walking Dead" because I can say I have had a close minded view of comics until now. Recently I only read Marvel titles mostly x-men books but yesterday when I had the time to go to my local shop when I went to purchase my comics the woman that owns the shop grabbed a couple of titles and said here read these and when your done comeback and tell me what you think. The comics were "invicible" #45, "The Walking Dead" #41,#42,"Fables" #64 the best part was she said they were on the house. Well an Hour later there I was back at the shop buyin the first three walking dead trades and I put an order in for invincible and fable trades. I just wanted to ask because I am deeply hooked.

Congrats, your awesome comic store lady just handed you the the three best titles on the stands. Glad your horizons have been expanded

Yeah, I for one enjoy the hell out of Walking Dead. I don't know anyone who's read it that doesn't like it.
