X-men Origins: Wolverine release date brought forward to April
Simon Brew

Those of you waiting to see Hugh Jackman back on the big screen as Wolverine don't have too long to wait any more...

The first of the big summer blockbusters this year (Watchmen doesn't count, as it's out before Easter!) is X-men Origins: Wolverine, which we were talking about earlier today (our story about the new poster for the film can be found here).

However, it's now been revealed that the release date for the film has been brought forward a couple of days. The original plan was for the film to get its release on Friday 1st May, but thanks to a quick shuffle of the schedules, it's now moved into April. Good, good.

The new date that you need to mark in your diaries is Wednesday 29th April 2009. It's not a huge shift, granted, but given that we're really quite looking forward to this one, we'll happily take it.

Can't really say I'm for this if this really is the case...for one thing it mucks up the its weekend haul...and we all know how the media likes highlighting just the weekend box office.

Heh, I'm not all that surprised.

At least the movie is being bumped to April. Can you imagine the rumor-mill, if it was pushed back?

Since Star Trek comes out the weekend after, it gives it two more days to make money.

Heh...Harry will be all over that...

Christian Bale going ape ***** (or "Bale out", if you will :hehe:) on some guy on the Terminator set, Harry defends the *****e, and Harry going so far as to say his website doesn't post stories on such smut...

HA!

HA! I say again...LOL

...but when there's trouble on the X-men set...maybe even Halle Berry telling Singer to "kiss my black a**, Harry posts the story.

The hypocrisy of it all. Both actors would be in the wrong if they both did happen...funny thing is, there's actual proof the former (Bale one) happened, even hilariously parodied on youtube countless number of times...:D

Sorry to go off topic...I just hate it when cruel, wicked people are rewarded in life.

!!!

My first reaction is utter elation. 2 less days to count down?!

But how sure are we about this?

Looks like it might not be true...at least for the USA. I checked with Fox, and their publicist said:

Nope - not in the US. With day/date movies we often have international territories releasing earlier than the US. The UK is showing as May 1st, but maybe there will be midnight previews.... Not unusual.

Thanks - although some blogs and message boards are starting to pick up that article and report the "new" date.

Good to know. I was wondering.

Good thing I didn't get my hopes up too much quite yet. ;)

May is such a tough stretch this year... Fox made the right decision... no way in hell this film is making money after OW with the likes of Trek, A & D, and Terminator.

How tragic... Wolverine is afraid to go head to head with Hannah Montana. :csad:

Actually Hannah Montana is scared of Wolverine. That piece of crap is being moved up to mid April, I think.

I'd like this move date... If I didn't have school that week! :cmad:
I guess I'll avoid this section a little longer now.

Yep. Last September, it was announced Hannah Montana would move to April 10.

Midnight previews for a May 1st release =/= April 29th though:huh:

People are over hyping Star Trek:o It won't be in the top 3 b.o. earners of the summer and even in the top 5 might be cutting it close. Wolverine would handily beat Star Trek.

That's great! now we all get it in the same day , the release date for latin america was the 29th too

I hope it stays at the May release date. No way do I get my brother to go to a midnight showing on a Tuesday night.

That's going to depend on if it's a good, fun movie or not. If it's good, I think it'll kill at the box office. If it's only average, the Star Trek name's not going to save it.

It's a weird night to open a movie. Tuesday? Hmm. Holiday in the USA maybe? I don't know.

Hehe..

As a sidenote, I also avoided reporting on the Bale outburst on my own site (see sig), for several reasons. Firstly, I'm part of a newspaper site and have a responsibility not to include obscenities; secondly, there are young readers on my blog who I wouldn't want hearing that rant; thirdly, people who click on the site at their workplaces could get into trouble if there was audio playing with that outburst; and, lastly, it happened a zillion years ago in June last year and I'm not sure why that audio was released only now. Was this some cynical way to publicise the movie? For all those reasons, I wasn't comfortable carrying that report.
