The Official Release Date Thread

Big Edit: Was going to comment on the Bale tirade, but danoyse is right, we shouldn't derail this into a Bale discussion. Sorry about that!

On topic: The sooner I get to see it the better. Can't complain about an earlier release date, not to mention--it's a Wednesday... no class.

April 29 is a Wednesday, not a Tuesday.

But the midnight shows would go Tuesday into Wednesday.

And good lord, let's not turn this thread into a Christian Bale rant discussion.

Oh right - I didn't think of "midnight" Tuesday being April 29.

Apparently the date was changed in the UK though:

Wolverine Arrives Early in UK

X-Men spin-off out three days before US.

by Orlando Parfitt, IGN UK

UK, February 6, 2009 - Film fans in the UK will be able to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine earlier than previously thought, and three days ahead of cinemagoers in the US.

20th Century Fox have shifted the UK release date for the X-Men spin-off forward - from 1 May to 29 April.

At present no rescheduling has taken place in other territories.

May Day weekend is traditionally the start of the summer movie season, with this year's weekend kick-starting a hotly anticipated period that will also see the release of Star Trek, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and Terminator Salvation.

People are over hyping Star Trek:o It won't be in the top 3 b.o. earners of the summer and even in the top 5 might be cutting it close. Wolverine would handily beat Star Trek.

Doubt it... especially not after the long weekend release. If you aren't there OW... you pretty much won't be seeing the film in theatres. Trek and Demons will definitely open number one IMO.

Haha sorry about the Christian Bale rant... :O

That's going to depend on if it's a good, fun movie or not. If it's good, I think it'll kill at the box office. If it's only average, the Star Trek name's not going to save it.

Actually some would argue that it's the Star Trek name that would scare away the ordinary movie goer.

The new date that you need to mark in your diaries is Wednesday 29th April 2009. It's not a huge shift, granted, but given that we're really quite looking forward to this one, we'll happily take it.
I don't have a... diary? Anyway, took notice. It's not a dramatic change, like they say..

So you think Trek and Demons will beat out Wolverine at the summer b.o. especially now that this has moved to Wed.?

I'm not Fat_tONle but I think he just meant that either film, Star Trek or Angels & Demons, will open number one in the box office on their respective opening weekends, which isn't totally impossible.

Or either one could pull a Speed Racer and crash & burn! :D

This is actually a smart exec move if you focus on the money of it all.

When does Angels and Demons come out?

Abrams has a track record of producing respectable stuff... there is a fan base there. Cloverfield was rubbish IMO... but with what he had to work with... he did extremely well. Star Trek will be a very entertaining film, and I think the plot and action/suspense will overcome the pitfalls of a weak cast. And Angel's and Demons will eat a good chunk out of the BO... considering it will be flat out better film than its predecessor. I wouldn't be shocked if both films outgross Wolverine.

Cloverfield was the only thing I've liked of his. Still, it won't be his fanbase that will get Star Trek the money it wants, it'll be the loyal undying Trekkies that will see the movie 8,000 times opening weekend. :oldrazz:

I just think that there are more Wolverine fans than Dan Brown or Trek fans. Also, the demographic for Wolverine is teens and young adults that will see Wolverine over and over like they did with TDK. Trek and Angels and Demon fans are much older and I doubt will see those movies twice or more so therefore IMO Wolverine will beat them.

My impression is that the Trekkies are not too fond of Abrams re-imagining of their franchise. We'll see i guess.

A good film does not necessarily equate good box office. Mission Impossible 3 was praised by the critics but some people still see it as having a not-so-stellar box office run.

The only reason Da Vinci Code did so well in the box office is because of the controversy behind it..take that out and you have a film like Angels and Demons...a film that, if i read correctly will actually be a sequel to DVC instead of a prequel, which the book was. I really am not a fan of this franchise and *i* do hope it bombs!

Yeah, and comic fans aren't fond of their beloved franchises getting changes... but we always end up at them anyway! Like a moth to the flame.. :oldrazz:

things are coming up soon. only a few more months. hopefully the theatrical trailer is in early march.

I wouldn't bet on those films beating Wolverine... just saying they will eat its legs... A LOT of young viewers will be seeing Trek don't worry about that. I also think Hanks has a big following and Dan Brown has a fanbase that will draw viewers. As for MI3... we all know that was a 100% Tom Cruise debacle. The guy is a mess in the public eye sight.

XMO:W is getting a limited release in Finland starting on 27th of April. Wide is 1st May.

The biggest cinema chain here are organizing midnight screenings at select theaters if you really want to be the first to see Wolverine.

Edit - Wow the release dates for the dvd have already been revealed?!

October 28 for both Belgium and here in The Netherlands according to Fox.

Depending on the success of the movie i guess that date could change obviously.:o
