The official "The Losers" movie thread.

Saw the movie. It was really a lot of fun. Just a light, action flick with some really great scenes (Chris Evans + Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" = awesomeness). I don't really get all the animosity The Losers seems to be getting...
Misplaced Kick-Ass anger. "Our movie isn't doing well. so this other movie that can barely be compared to it... SUCKS!"

sucks it didnt heat up the box office. hopefully it can make back its budget. i still havent seen it myself. but i have some cash and i do want to see both losers and kickass.

I gave it a 7. I enjoyed it. Good popcorn flick. That's what it was going for and it delivered.

I can't believe Jennifer Lopez's f**king movie beat this out at the box office. She has got to be one of the most talentless "actresses" I've ever seen in my life. Who the hell goes to see her crappy movies?

I wouldn't count on a sequel...but on a good note, it only cost about 25 million from what I read. Although it looked like it cost more to me.... It'll make back it's money worldwide I think.

i thought The Losers was a whole lot of fun. the guys had great chemistry and the story was fine. fun villain too.

I enjoyed it. I liked Kick Ass better, but Losers had some nice action and good chemistry among the actors. The jokes didn't always do it for me, but it wasn't a deal breaker either. It's a shame that it didn't do better the first week out. I hope it makes its money back.

never underestimate the BO power of women...the Twilight saga should be proof enough

Anyone else tired of hearing Kick-Ass being brought up when people talk about the Losers?

I know. But at least TDK was somewhat as good as the fanboy hype machine was trying to make it out to be. The recent attempts have just been odd.

personally i want to see both kickass and losers myself. i just need to find the time to get to theater to see either.

Fanboi Denial

The Losers wants to be a high octane, sylish action flick it achieves its goal on some levels and fails horribly on others.
Based on a comic book series published by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics, written by Andy Diggle it starts off good .Colonel Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Jensen (Chris Evans), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short) and Cougar (Oscar Jaenada) are part of one of those C.I.A secret op groups that take out drug warlords.
The guys are betrayed by their boss max and they watch as over 2 dozen innocent lives are taken. They want revenge and im right along with them.
Of course when our in a group like this the government disavows you in seconds so getting revenge wont be easy
Enter Aisha a mystery lady, who says she can help the guys reach their goal. After a sexy toss and tumble with Clay, the game is on.
The acting is ok most of the cast just spits out one liners though.
I did like some of the action sequences, visuals, (watching Saldana's sleak bod floating through the air through shards of glass stands out in my mind) and the one liners, but soon it becomes to bogged down with visual and script cliches.
There are a few twists and turns in the plot one i saw coming 10 minutes into the film
The villain Max portrayed by Jason Patric, with such casual blankness i laughed a few times at his performance, but after awhile he was just obnoxious.
This is the same dude from the films After Dark My Sweet and Narc ,so i know he can do better than this!!!
Why were there 3 endings ? The tagged on latter endings are just sappy,i liked the first that left me with some anticipation for a sequel......but from the box office TL received this weekend....a sequel may be a long shot, but in this day and age of Netflix,Cable, and beautiful overseas box office money...it could happen.....maybe.
Scale of 1-10 a 6 ½

My Guess? Lucifer. Part of the deal.

Not only they share a commond demographic (obviously) but the tone in both movies are similar. But Kick-Ass just did it better, where as The Losers tried..sooo...HARD to be cool.

The Losers (2010)

The Losers is the big screen adaptation of the comic book with the same title. InThe Losers we follow Clay and four of his elite soldiers as they seek justice for the deaths of 25 innocent children, when it should have been them that were meant killed instead. Only going off of the mysterious voice named ”Max” as their only clue, The Losers are met by an untrustworthy female on their quest to clear their name of the 25 innocents deaths.

The Losers is seemingly the first in a line of films scheduled to come out this summer under the idea of “a bad ass military unit is plotted against and **** so they have to clear their names of the things they were said to have done. Oh and, save the day”. Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer for The A-Team and The Expendables. The Losers a fun action-adventure movie with a pretty decent cast under its belt, but sadly is drawn down by the terrible plot, villain and twists.

You can read the rest of my review for The Losers after the jump.

I’m going to break down each character and the actor playing the character, then follow through with an overall review of the film.

Clay (played by Jeffery Dean Morgan) is the leader of The Losers and probably the most motivated out of the group to get revenge on Max, which Morgan makes believable in the film. I first watched Jeffery Dean Morgan in Watchmen and was very impressed with him in the film, ending up being my favorite part of the movie - save the Dr. Manhattan origins. In The Losers Morgan gives a pretty believable commanding presense in some scene, but in others he leaves you thinking “dude, you’re an idiot” (implying I’m a better special ops leader than him is in by no means my intentions) and it really baffles me on some of the actions he takes throughout the movie.

Rouge (played by Idris Elba) is the second-in-command to Clay and probably someone I’d rather follow into battle than Clay, simply due to him being a more grounded and realistic character. While Clay bum rushes “jobs”, Rouge is always there to remind him of how much an idiot he can be at times. Idris Elba is a newcomer into films for me, this is the first movie I’ve seen of his but I have however seen him in NBC’s The Office, but I really don’t think that counts. Elba gave off an overall better presence than Morgan. I’m excited to see him in Marvel Studios’ Thor which will be released in May of 2011.

Jensen (played by Chris Evans) is the tech wizard of The Losers. Basically a brilliant smartass, Evans steals the show as Jensen and doesn’t give it back. Jensen really doesn’t question what’s going on, what needs to be done. He just knows he can get in there and do it, and do it quickly. Chris Evans already gave us his taste of being a smart ass in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies, playing The Human Tourch and was the best part of the movies. The most memorable scene in The Losers is actually a scene with Jensen and “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey playing. Already excited to see Chris Evans in Marvel Studios’ Captain America, I won’t lie when I say I only saw this movie for him.

Cougar (played by Oscar Jaenada) is the marksmen in The Losers. As a man of little or no words, he’d rather sit back and pop heads off from a building than be up in the action. Cougar is a pretty decent character in and has some pretty cool moments in the movie (ironically, he shares the same “Don’t Stop Believeing”scene with Jensen) and it wasn’t really forced on us that he was that way in the movie. I’ve never heard of Jaenada before The Losers and while I wasn’t very impressed with him (mostly because he didn’t do anything but snipe dudes), I thought he portrayed Cougar well enough in the movie.

Pooch (played by Columbus Short) is the wingman in The Losers. He’s the guy that can drive or pilot anything if it has gas in it. Pooch is the loudmouth free-thinker of the group, he’ll put you in your place verbally than move you to safety all within the blink of an eye. Pooch really isn’t motivated to get back at Max and threatens to leave the group and head home to his wife, who is expecting his baby. I only remember Columbus Short from 2008’s first-person-shoot-esque filmQuarantine and I really only remember him faintly. I really didn’t like him in The Losers because he kept making “your momma” jokes, as if they’re the cool/funny thing to do.

Aisha (played by Zoe Saldana) is the myesterious woman that contacts The Losers in the beginning of the movie, she’s deadly with a weapon and out for revenge against Max, the same person that The Losers are after. Being the myesterious female character, eventually her true intentions are revealed she saves The Losers after things get bad for them while on the trail of Max. Now I’ve only seen Saldana in 2008s Star Trek (Avatar doesn’t count, that’s a computer figure, not the goddamn human being!) where I really enjoyed her in. I really didn’t care for her in this movie, her character just felt “there”; sure she was a HUGE important character in the end, but I found myself not caring about her or her character arc. I wasn’t surprised when the twist came around in the movie.

Max (played by Jason Patric) is the villain of the movie, the guy that started everything The Losers were up against. He’s a multi-millionare genius which like all millionares, he’s out for more money. Sure he says his intentions for his actions are to bring order to the world, but he’s just in it for the money. He’s a ruthless killer that would shoot anyone, for anything. He shoots a woman for not being able to hold an umbrella during a big gust of wind right? Terrifying, yes? No. Bland and boring. This was just an all around completely terrible character and I didn’t care whither he lived or die, although I’d wish he died so that terrible excuse for a villain and be whipped off the face of this beautiful floating blue ball. It must be Patric’s portrayal of Max in the movie, because nothing about this character is good, his lines are just terrible and he tries so hard to be extreme, he comes off as dull and well, pointless.

Overall: The Losers is a fun action-adventure with a few funny moments and some top-notch action scenes. Having a decent cast is also what kind of saves this film. Jeffery Dean Morgan and Chris Evans are the only two real positives out of the cast, but Chris Evans steals the show and makes the movie from somewhat funny to downright hilarious in some scenes. The action itself isn’t as great as I had hoped it’d be, but it’s still pretty decent for a small budget film like this one. While a terribly overused plot and plot twists, The Losers is a fun movie that you should at least watch once if you happen to come across it, with that all said, I’ll giveThe Losers a 6/10. While not the best movie this year, it’s still got plenty of laughs and good action for anyone to enjoy.

I liked it, Wasn't crazy about the open ending but the movie was pretty good.

I'd watch a sequel if they make one. I hope they do.:yay:

I saw this yesterday, and it was okay. It was an entertaining way to spend an hour and a half. I think they overdid it with the comedy sometimes though. The comedy felt a little unnecessary at times, but Chris Evans was a damn gold mine throughout the whole thing. "You're dead dude, I'm spinal injury. Dead can't talk!" :lmao:

Fell from #6 to #9 this weekend. It's accumulated $21.4 million so far in box office and $1.8 million this week. It's not likely to make back its budget.

It's a flop... I don't want to hear about WB diversifying themselves with all these different Vertigo properties. Watchmen bombed, this bombs, Hex will probably bomb in a month. When you get Megan Fox dangling her tatas, wasting talent with cheap shoot em' up premises, and showcase Watchmen as a nothing more than a visceral, slow motion, stylistic action affair, you are not taking the properties seriously.

well how much was the budget for the film? plus it could easily make up on dvd/bluray sales too. But yea its not that much of a hit in its theater run.

Saw it today pretty fun movie. Chris Evans was fantastic and I liked Cougar just a silent bad ass, the best kind. I didn't like the bad guy he was too much of a *****e villain to enjoy. I don't think it's fair to compare this to Kick Ass which by the way is just an overall better movie but these two movies are completely different. It's like comparing TDK and Iron Man you just can't do it.

Saw this last night, thought it was a great way to spend 90 mins, the cast were great, everyone of them was brilliant, especially Chris Evans and Jason Patric, loved Saldana (so hot) JDM and Elba as well, in fact, there wasnt anyone i disliked. Not a particularly good film but I had a great time watching it, definately getting the blu-ray.

Evans got all the stand out moments and lines though, I just cant imagine him playing Captain America straight after this, he is too funny for straight roles, though he was great in Sunshine.

If A-Team and Expendables are better than this they will be great, 7/10.
