All I can say, god forbid he has an opinion. I dont agree with him...but who cares?

I don't know man, I liked the film better than the GN.
i can understand this....as i was walking out of the imax midnight showing i heard that in the elevator from 4 guys talking....i love both of them in seperate ways...equal love though of course

When it comes to adaptations, I avoid making comparisons to the source since I look at the films as their own thing. A new interpretation. I respect the book and I think its good, but I don't put it on a pedestal. It's a good story with good characters, that's it. I got more out of the film than I did the book. It's probably because I'm a film buff first. Loved the extra emphasis on the violence, thought the action scenes were well thought out with good use of the slow motion, which for some reason now people just hate. This obviously wasn't an easy film to make, especially in Hollywood. Hollywood has no excuse in making a movie like this and it's shocking that it ever got made. And I believe he did an amazing job of bringing it to the screen. I'm able to detach myself from the source on any adaptation and I don't find myself revisiting this book anytime in the near future.

*Note: I'm not against reading, I love reading.

Loved the film. 10/10 for me.

BUT I am looking forward to seeing the extended cut. Being a fan of the comic book, I just filled in the "blanks" in the story, but I am looking forward to seeing a more complete story on screen.

I can understand how people unfamiliar with the comic book would be a little lost. I gave my partner a run down prior to the movie and it seemed to help, but there did seem to be quite a lot that wasn't ever explained (or perhaps not to the extent required).

As for the ending. It may be blasphemous, but I prefer the movie's ending. It made more sense to be than the comic book ending.

Still thinking about the movie the next day. It was a lot to soak in and I'm looking forward to seeing it again soon (probably at the cinema, since I'm not sure I can wait for the DVD).

Cheers.

I thought the movie was very good. My only complaint would be that I didn't like the new ending as much as the one in the book. It will be interesting to see how well the movie does in the coming weeks. The first thing a friend that went with me said following the movie was "Wow, that was long." My wife went also, and while she said she liked it, I could tell she wasn't blown away by it.

I guess it's the same reason I don't understand your sig.

i said "I CAN understand this"
you cant understand that i like watchmen better than TDK? hard to grasp? or can you not understand MSU's basketball record? Im confused...

I'm just glad that Fox declined to make a movie out of Watchmen when they had the right to do so. It could've turned into a giant turd of a movie if Fox makes it. In fact, it'd be fun to speculate on the kind of changes Fox would've implemented on a Watchmen movie. A few things came to mind:

  • The running time will be way under to 2 hours
  • It will be PG-13
  • Minimal blood, no gore, and no sex
  • Dr. Manhattan wears a speedo

Was there any reason why Night owl and Silk Spectre where killing people violently in that alley scene? I dont remember them killing like that in the novel. They just defended themselves. Doesnt that go against there characters?

exactly. Fox has put out utter crap the last few years, besides a very few small gems. their big budget films have been the worst of any studio. I would love snyder to do x-men. $300m budget to do the phoenix saga broken up in two 3 hour films or three 2 1/2 hour films but only if marvel studios got the properties back. as for the constant comparison between watchmen and the DK. watchmen easily. imo, DK isn't better than x-men 2, sin city, blade 2, spider-man 2, iron man.

Oh yeah! This is not a "review" but I think some will understand my grief...

When the movie started...the logo of the cinema was still seen behind the image being projected. Then, the screen went black during the fight. Then the lights came on in the theater...and then the lights went back off, the screen came back on and the Comedian was dead.

This has happened to me THREE times in my cinema viewing life...where the theater screws up and I miss a portoin of a film. The three times were Watchmen, 300 and Dawn Of The Dead.

Well, that was awesome. Haley and Crudup were the strongest points of the film, with Haley playing the perfect Rorschach and Crudup lending such a wonderful voice that the performance would have worked if they had used a paper cut out of Dr. Manhattan.

The action was fun to watch, but it sometimes felt awkward seeing style for sake of style in places where in the book there had been no action, or abrupt, less glorified action. Some of what I appreciate about with regards to Ozymandias didn't make it in the film. I think he was the character most hurt by the process of condensing the material. I also missed the more in-depth history Rorschach enjoyed in the book.

The film is exceptional despite these issues. For the most part, I didn't to sorely miss what was cut, and the ending did it's job, despite being squidless. Most of the little changes were reasonable, and the inclusion of Dan in Rorschach's death was a great idea. That was easily my favourite part of the film. Haley was just amazing.

Another standout scene for me is Jon's exile to Mars. The music and the way this was handled was excellent. Actually, everything with Manhattan was extremely well handled. He seems so tired, so exhausted by what he perceives as human trivialities for the bulk of the film, but at the end of his conversation with Laurie on Mars, you can really see him become re-energized, like he's coming alive. Great stuff.

Oh, sorry.

Yeah, why did you like Watchmen better?

WOW...WOW... I am kind of on a high. I literally just got back from watching the movie. I lived up to the hype. All I could think of the at the end the movie was...

THANK YOU ZACK SNYDER

He did it. This is watchmen; my complaints if any are minimal and irrelevant. Too actually capture the graphic novel as well as he did in this short of a running time is spectacular. He is worthy of the term “visionary”.

I loved the cast. Best performances

1. Jackie earle haley- he literally is Rorschach off the pages. Loved the scene at the end in karnak. Amazing. Imo, its Oscar worthy, and I hope he gets recognized for this performance
2. patrick Wilson- he, like JEH, is Dan brought to life. But the strange thing is I actually like Dan in the movie compared to the comic. I love what they did at the end with Rorschach and Dan; really invested in emotional relationship between the characters.
3. Billy Crudrup- Wow. The Dr. Manhattan CGI was amazing, and the voice acting was spot on. Billy didn't really have much to work with, but he REALLY fleshed out the character with the acting. I was really loved the miracles speech…AMAZING, they did it so well, and that was a favorite part of the comic and it didn’t disappoint in the movie
4. Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Loved every single scene the Comedian was in. The rape scene was hard to watch, and so it should be. I felt he really portrayed him well. Props to Jeffrey. Loved the Moloch scene
5. Ozymandias - I don't know why people complain about Goode, he did a phenomenal job. Really brought the character to life and the accent is barely noticeable unless you really try to look for it.
6. Malin Akerman- Now, she was definitely the weak point when it came to acting, but I felt she was adequate. At some points she was strong at some points she was weak, but never really was consistently good or consistently bad... as I said she was adequate.

I noticed though, there were a lot of things that were filmed that didn't make the cut, which is why I will definitely be looking forward to the director’s cut.

My only complaint of the film was the sex scene, abit to graphic. They didn’t need to emphasize it that much, and didn’t like the song choice, but that really isn't that big of a complaint cause everything else was AWESOME. It’ll be interesting to see it the second time.

I wondered at the end though, “Why did this movie get bad reviews?” It was a really good movie. I truly realize though why this has been getting bad reviews. First, it’s not your typical Hollywood superhero movie, it’s very original, makes you think and question your world, and presents you with a gut chilling moral question. Anyone who expected an action campy comic book superhero film would definitely be disappointed. Second, you really have to invest yourself into the movie and try to like it, try to think, and try to pay attention to everything that's happenings because every scene, every little scene was relevant. If you really don't know or haven't read the comic, you won't really appreciate what this movie offers. The movie was so dense. So for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, I truly recommend reading the book first, i think your experienced will be enhanced.

This movie was literally made for the fans, and I thank Zack and co for doing a commendable job. I truly loved it and will definitely see it again and I am eagerly awaiting the genius that will be the director’s cut. If you are a fan of the novel, I truly can't see how you cannot like this film because it was literally made for you, the fan.

9/10

its all good man! i worded it weird so it got confusing....it just fit my style better...but i still love TDK about the same amount...

I understand. I'm a pretty big Batman fan so there I have some problems the TDK.

I really liked the Watchmen GN, but I had no problem with the film.

I'll be honest. It's a good movie and I completely don't understand some of the negative reviews. I think overall, I give it an 8.5.

I think the pacing is uneven, but that's the structure of the book. Of course, it's in a different medium so you can't really fix that. I think that the acting of the actress who played Silk Spectre was uneven but I tolerate it. It's not 'omg it's so bad'; just not as memorable.

8.5 (or maybe 9..I need to think it over)

Perhaps a second viewing might help. I'll definitely be seeing it again.

I really don't get the pacing problem. As you said, it was the comic. The only part where the pace felt odd was when Dr. Manhattan went from the Tv studio to mars and than he started the monologue right away. I think that happened WAY to fast...but It might be a problem that's rectified in the director's cut. As for everything else, the pacing felt just fine to me.

My friend saw the movie with me and he's not a comic geek. He liked it and he wasn't confused by it at all. He said that some of the flashbacks makes he kinda forget about the main plot, but overall he really really enjoyed it.

I agree that the Dr. Manhattan backstory was a little clunky at first, but it was a damn beautiful flashback. I love Billy's voice and I'm glad that Zach didn't enhance it.

I mostly saw my vewing with friends who were fans of the graphic novel or had read the book. We all loved it. Except for one friend didn't know it, but she didn't like it, but she's usually not into these kind of films and I knew from the beginning, knowing her tastes, that she wasn't going to like it. But she didn't really give it much of a chance to me honest. And that's the problem with some people who watch, this isn't the "sit back and enjoy the ride" movie, you really have to pay attention, and immerse yourself.

Yea, man. I loved what Billy did with Dr. Manhattan, loved the voice aswell. Did anyone get emotional with the mircales speech. :waa: very touching, and Billy did it an amazing job.

Yeah, I agree that some people are not willing to accept the movie for what it is, almost ignorantly passing it off as 'boring' just because they don't understand it.

Yes, I love Manhattan's speech of miracles. He did a wonderful job, and I think Patrick Wilson was wonderful too. I also think Mathew Goode doesn't get enough credit. Again, Malin was uneven but she did what she did with the role, and it didn't effect my opinion on the film.

I'm getting a read that people are bashing this due to

1. The need to read the graphic novel (casual movie goer)

2. That it wasn't true to the graphic novel (diehard fan)

3. The characters failed to develop (film fans)

I also can't believe people are making a big fuss about the blue penis thing.

Mystique was blue and nude and nobody had a problem with it....

So I guess this means naked woman= OK , naked man= OMGWTF ... it just goes to show there's no end to the double standard BS that people have, but don't even realize
