I wouldn't know as I haven't seen the movie, but from the previews I've seen, I'd say they could have done a lot worse. I was surprised to note how much he looked like Chris Reeve and then when I heard him speak, he actually sounds a LOT like Reeve. I think they were going more for someone who was like Chris Reeve than someone who was like Superman - if that makes any sense.

If you were being sarcastic and have seen SR, what didn't you like about Routh as Supes?

I'm probably going to see the movie in the next few weeks. Heard a lot of people say the reason they were unhappy with the film is the way Supes was almost a stalker in it!

I think my theory is right in general. I think usually there is some unknown actor out there that would be better for a lead superhero role than any known actor. I think Chris Reeve is a perfect example of that. Imagine if they had put Redford or Newman or Burt Reynolds or Dustin Hoffman in the role instead because they were well known actors.

I think Singer should have found someone who looked and sounded like Superman. But because I think he was trying so hard to seek Donner's approval he instead tried to duplicate Reeve. Just like duping analogue tape, you get a copy but you lose some quality. I think with Routh we got a duplicate of Reeve but with less quality.

Oded Fehr is Iron Man.

The guy is a supporting player for life. He can't carry a movie or a role like Tony Stark.

Once again, having short hair and a goatee doesn't make you Tony Stark.

He's never been given a leading role before, so we don't know how he'd do. I'm sure he can work on the accent.

It's hard to judge, as most of his roles are bit parts, and definite characters. He's never been a lead as a normal character.

Ok, many "supporting players" have became popular movie stars carrying a movie by themselves. Many actor today have been supporting players at one time or another. Many superheroes have been portrayed by "supporting players" or unknowns: Thomas Jane, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Eric Bana, Ron Perlman, etc.

I've posted about this guy playing some Marvel character before. He even LOOKS like a Jack Kirby character, for cripes sakes! His names Zen Gesner and he used to play Sinbad on tv. I certainly think he's more of a 'lady killer' than Fuhr. He's a good actor. So why is Oded MORE "Iron Man" than him?

For starters, Thomas Jane had played lead roles before pre-Punisher. And he did damn good jobs with them. Same with Ron Perlman and Eric Bana before Hellboy and The Hulk.

There's a reason he's not getting lead roles.
