The Official Writer & Storyline Thread

That sounds interesting, but it flirts with missing the point. Lois rarely had solid and consistent characterization throughout all her versions, but, for example, she really wouldn't deny her feelings to herself. And, despite the early cynicism, it's actually quite important for her character to fall for Superman quite early on. The idea was always that Lois is far too strong and independent to be impressed by regular guys, which is exactly why the flying hero from the stars makes an impression on her. If you remove that angle, you bury the basis of her character. It's dangerous ground to walk on.

Additionally, I'm personally against the idea of excluding romance from the first film. For starters, because if Singer's attempt has taught us anything is to not save things for the might-be-sequels. Secondly and most importantly, because the plan is to bring Superman back in the silver screen. In all his glory. Less gimmicks, more of his essence. The romance, the love triangle and the dynamic between Lois, Clark and Superman are as important to Superman's story as him coming from an exploding planet. Excluding them, or postponing using them, means reducing from Superman's appeal.

I do find the "story vs romance" angle somewhat intriguing, though.

It's practically a guarantee that we're going to get some of the love triangle, because superhero movies are practically required to have a romantic subplot. The question is what angle the next director is going to take.

I think the point is that you have to bring something new to the table , and slightly changing the dynamic or adding a new element doesnt ruin the mythos. Everyone knows the Superman story. Why bother redoing it exactly the same way as Donner,SV etc has done before. I've seen every new version of Superman on film as adding to the myths or trying something different from what came before. For the story to appeal to not only a new audience but a familar audience I think you're going to have to explore a new areas and emphasis on things not previously touched. I think getting Superman not only back back to the screen but to actually get people interested in seeing it you're going to have to give them something they haven't seen before. Postpoing the romance for film one won't hurt the film with viewers imo. If anything you build anticapation for sequels and you don't run out of steam by film 3. But that's just the way I would do it.

As for Lois ,I like to see her as more of the thee dimesional character. I want to be more then just regular guys don't do it for her but this flying guy does. I can understand the attraction part but where does the "i'm in love" with this person part come from? What qualities about Superman besides the superficial make her fall in love with him? What is it about him that changes her world view? Sure's she's a strong woman but , it has to go beyond that imo.

You weren't talking about exploring her, you were talking about spinning her a not-so-familiar twist. It's a completely different thing. There is no reason why they can't delve more into her psyche, her motives etc, but there is equally no reason to depart from the standard makeup of the character to do so.

I'm not talking about altering the makeup of the character. I'm talking about going deeper then just Superman is superhuman therefore I'm inlove with him. I want to see what it is about Superman as a person that makes her fall in love with him . If anything it's reinforcing to the audience of the effect that Superman has had on people beyond him having Super abilities.

Another way would be to start with the Kents. Spend an apalling amount of time getting into their lives, work, marriage, financial troubles, etc. And just when the audience thinks they went into the wrong theatre, the spaceship crashes. Titles.

I don't think they should spend alot of time before jumping into the action in this one. That was afterall one of the biggest complaints with S.R.

I would like the film to start in Metropolis. It should start from there & then we immediately see a big fight between Supes & a powerful supervillian. Just your typical day in good o' Metropolis. :D

My thoughts are cut the BS, we all know how superman come to Earth, just start with Clark working in the DP. And go from there.

Done right we should get a great new Superman film.

How about Superman in reverse like in Memento?
The last scene of the movie should be the space ship crashing...

Damn, voted Smallville instead of Krypton, anyway, I would pretty much like to see an adaptation of Birthright, if it is indeed a re-boot that we are getting.

I'd like to start with Clark arriving in Metropolis, he has secured a junior job interview at the Daily Planet. He has spent past couple years going around globe, learning new trades, helping people, and there are already reports of a 'guardian angel' helping people, but his face never captured.
The reseidents of smallville, being a tight community, they all know Clark has powers, let's be fair, Farmer Jones so Clark out racing a train, pet shop owner Suzi saw Clark lifting a truck to change a tire, but being good, backwards folk they keep it a secret, let's be fair, if you know Clark well enough, when you see Superman you don't need to be a computer genius to realise they are the same.
Maybe Jimmy snaps clark in action, and there is a perfect head shot of Clark, maybe the scene was in the rain, his hair was wet, slicked back with a spit curl over one eye.
Metropolis goes crazy that they finally have their own hero, like Gotham = Bats etc.
Knowing he has an interview, and no one has yet to meet Clark in the city, plus the realisation that Metropolis want more of this super man, he goes and talks it over with his family and ponders what to do in the fortress, he decides to alter his appearance, glasses, floppy hair so he can live an undetected life in the city, then don a suit that is housed in the fortress (a relic to the kryptonian ways).
The film then explores Clark in the city, with lois and jimmy. The interaction with a new superman and heroes around him.
What business man luthor thinks to him being there, raining on his parade.
Origin could be shown through flash backs when speaking to lana (she knows of his powers) and Lois when she interviews Superman.
The main villian.. i have yet to get that far!!

we should begin........a long time ago........in a galaxy far, far away.........

cue the music!! :woot:

anyways.....I think we should begin with Clark just arriving in Metropolis.

The Smallville and Krypton history portions can be told in flashbacks and in interactions with key characters.

Ditto my thoughts exactly..

What made Lois and Clark series so good, was that it gave those two character and expanded upon that, Clark starting new in a fresh big city can also be a metaphore for him being the only Kryptonian, left in a new world...

I also think that oother key super heroes should be in this film, to help tie in other franchises, but also, i think superman should come to the rescue of another city, when a giant villian is in play, and also the villian crosses borders into metropolis, so we see how superman has impacted the world and made friends along the way - showing the audience what a great hero he is compared to the rest, how they need him. I think Metropolis getting a new hero and a villian all in one movie is too much of a coincidence, a bit like clark showing up at the office one morning and supes catching a plane in the afternoon!!!

I'd personally love the movie to begin JUST as the Kent's find Clark. Sure Krypton would be a visual spectacle, but we might as well in a movie find out at the same moment, and in the same way, Clark does.

Open in the passenger car of a commuter train. Various quick shots of commuters doing their morning routines, blackberry's etc.. Focus on a passenger reading the Daily Planet. The headline mentions LuthorCorp. The train lurches and stops. The passenger after a brief recovery leans over to look outside the train; the camera continues thru the window and up the length of the train in super slo-mo past groups of shocked onlookers who are looking towards the front of the train. As the camera reaches the locomotive it resumes normal speed to the front of the train where a crowd of stunned onlookers have gathered. The crowd parts and a dog trots out and runs to a young boy who joyously gathers him up, the dog licking his face. Superman lifts up from the midst of the crowd, pauses briefly, and smiles at the boy and his dog before rocketing away. Crowd cheers!!!!!!
Start the music and role the titles!

That he would take time to stop a train to save a boy's dog is great. That would make an awesome teaser for the film.

I wouldn't mind seeing one of Lois/Clark/Lana. I don't think we've really seen that play out yet. Or we could do the infamously known Bruce/Lois/Clark.

Save Lois/Clark/Lana for a future movie, hopefully a sequel. If we're getting a reboot the next director should just focus on the classic love triangle.

Get rid of Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, and the son of superman story
