For the love of God, Zack...NO shakey-zoomy cam in this one, please.

If Supes/Bats looks EXACTLY like MOS I won't shed a single tear. HAND HELD FTW!!!!!

Just watched Watchmen again last night. Haven't seen it in maybe 2 years. But when I saw it theaters in 2009 I saw maybe 6 or 7 times, so I know it almost intimately. It's tattooed on my brain.

Anyway, after seeing it again... I want THIS Zack Snyder for Batman vs. Superman. I don't feel that we got that for Man of Steel. The trailers and TV spots promised "From the Director of Watchmen and 300", and I don't think we were really given that. That's not a bad thing, but I was expecting the director of Watchmen and 300.

Instead, it felt like we got "Michael Bay making a Christopher Nolan movie,"

Yes.

Ah. Well MOS' cinematographer Amir Mokri did shoot Transformers 3...

See, not only am I not the biggest fan of the actual comic (sue me), but I am not the biggest fan of the WATCHMAN film either. I've seen it twice and to be honest I could give two airborne copulations if I never saw it again. That's why I was happy that I didn't get Zack in 300/WATCHMAN/SUCKER PUNCH mode at all.

"It feels different, but is also very attached to the land where he grew up. His sense of morality comes directly from its roots in the Midwest, although, of course, his journey did not begin there"

The more I read, the more I feel like a lot of the characterization problems comes from Goyer trying to distance himself from past incarnations, while Snyder's pacing issues and ultimate prioritization of action over emotionally meaningful scenes kind of aggravate that to a point.

But I think his ability to capture emotion in images is above average, and I feel like with the right type of influence, he can create strong work.

These images are great.

BAHAHAHA!!

And I think what people were referring to about that "Watchmen" Zack Snyder is his visual style. The movie itself left a lot to be desired, IMO, but it is damn beautiful visually and how it's shot....very fluid and great to look at. MOS had moments of this but I hated the shakey cam and zoom IN zoom OUTs....waaay too much of that crap for one thing, in addition to the colors being a bit muted, which was meh.

Glad you noticed. :cwink:

For myself I am including the visuals. I loved the textured real world feel of MOS, as compared to the heightened reality, WIZARD OF OZ like style in 300/WATCHMAN.

I liked the visual look of MOS, the natural looking stuff, I just wish the suit looked brighter and the colors popped more I guess, like its colors do in real life.

1. Less Shaky Cam

2. Better Color Filter

3. More On-set location shooting

4. More practical stunts

5. Slow-Motion Shots

That's all I ask for from Snyder when it comes to improving his film-making style for this film.

These images are great.

Cinema is about images, not the written word, in my opinion and Snyder's one of the best in capturing emotion and character out of images.

300 really comes to mind. As does Man of Steel.

Um, what? Like Nolan, Snyder did a TON of on-set location shooting for Man of Steel. More so than any of his films except for Dawn of the Dead.

I thought somebody asked Larry Fong about this movie being brighter and he said no. I could be wrong though.

I was actually just referring to some of the sequences shown within Superman's fight with Zod (the portion that was grounded). It was just kind of visually jarring to have had so many on-set locations shown in the film (when it didn't involve being on Krypton or inside a Kryptonian spaceship) only to get an entire street and building rooms made of pure CGI, which I felt looked very noticeable.

I thought somebody asked Larry Fong about this movie being brighter and he said no. I could be wrong though.

I'm hoping Snyder might have a change of heart later on.

The reason I'm not embedding this is the use of the word w%#re. But I feel like this is an example of great cinematic technique, using the classic film noir narration and visuals to actually to actually move the story along, rather than just draw attention to the style.

I frankly feel like Snyder didn't take criticism (Sucker Punch creating a big fallout in his fanbase) well, so he overhauled his whole style.

The truth is that he's gonna prolong the action no matter what, but without the time ramping, he has to prolong it in real time (which really throws off the pacing).

I think hiring Fong shows indicates a more comfortable Zack, while having Ben and Terrio on board can hopefully clean up the weaknesses in the story.

I loved everything about MoS's visuals except for the colors.

While saying that, I also think that the visual style worked very well for the story they tried to tell and I'm not saying they should transfer that to BvS without thought.

I think he meant that as being something that's out of his control, I feel like Snyder's probably the person that should be asked the saturation question.

I think it's because people were tired of his style that they didn't think of moments that could BENEFIT from it.

I believe that if they trimmed the climax and used more slow-mo/fastmo shots there could have been more traditional stuntwork involved.

I also believe he wouldn't have been so stir-crazy with the whipzooms/shakey cam.

I for one would love to see slow motion Batarangs and swooping.

And I think Larry Fong could pull off both styles with ease.

^ I think he'll nail Wonder Woman within a smaller role. I just don't want him doing a WW feature :oldrazz:

Did Snyder hand pick ben affleck himself or was it a studio decision to reach out to affleck?

It reeks of studio decision but, with the notion that Affleck only did Daredevil because he didn't think he'd ever get to do Batman or there would be another Batman film after Batman & Robin, it kind of feels like this one was up to Affleck in the end.

Honestly, I think the real reason WB pursued him was for the director's chair for the solo Batman films that we all know are coming sooner rather than later. You cast Bruce Wayne/Batman and the director at the same time is kind of a coup for WB.

Affleck may not do exactly what Nolan did but he'll carry on in that same vein and for WB, that makes sense considering the Dark Knight Trilogy earned 2.5 billion at the box office.
