BvS The Official Zack Snyder Directs Everything Thread

He certainly made a Superman movie people liked. The box office numbers, Blu-Ray/DVD sales, and user scores on review sites speak in favor of that.
More important than that, he made the type of Superman movie that people wanted to see. I'd bet big money that most people that had problems with MoS would rather have had a better version of what Zack Snyder gave them than had a Superman movie made by another director (*cough*BryanSinger*cough*).

Zack Snyder understands what fans want to see and WB/DC know that. That's why they trust him to direct Justice League. They're not afraid of the divisiveness his past movies brought, because his potential is through the roof. That's why Chris Terrio is re-writing the script for BvS. Zack Snyder's strengths outweigh his weaknesses by a mile. Let's see how a Snyder movie based on the script of an Oscar winner works out, should be interesting.

Edit: C'mon guys... He said charm and better dialogue. That doesn't automatically make it a Marvel movie with DC characters.

It still could've been a lot better received, considering all the hype going into opening weekend. Look at how Gravity and Frozen performed in comparison. Those are crowd pleasers.

I'm so torn over this news. I've literally waited my whole life for this day, but I cannot get over how plain nervous I am that the future of the whole DCU rests on Zack.

So glad Snyder is returning to film Justice League and not a certain other director..... *cough*... you know who.. (last name rhymes with colon)

If you're talking about a certain foreign director, you're nuts.

I'm not worried about Zack. His talents are suited to this genre. I'm worried about what writers will be working with him though.

for an origin movie/reboot from another version. IT REALLY DONE WELL ;)
I'm not sure the comparisson you're doing is valid in this discussion.

He won't be alone. It's amazing how ambitious ensemble films cause everyone to up their game. Avengers, Star Wars, Fast 6, Inception, LotR, Oceans Eleven, Scott Pilgrim (pulled a great performance out of Brandon Routh), Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one), Mean Girls, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, etc...

All I'm saying is leading into opening weekend, I think all the prior Superman projects were considered null and void by the audience. The marketing was impeccable and the gist was it practically erased all prior baggage. It was shaping up to be the event movie of the year...and then the film got released and we all know what happened in subsequent weeks.

Meanwhile other films that opened small, built up incredible word of mouth week after week. To the point where it overshadowed this big tentpole movie. Comparative to reboots, yes it did well. No arguing there. But I think it fell well below its potential and what the crowds were waiting for. MOS had the luxury of very well established hype leading to release. That's not something any of the other reboots had (quite the opposite actually) which is why I wouldn't compare them directly. The trailers alone wiped the slate clean.

If only Zack was like Whedon and had a band of fanatical followers who worship everything he does no matter how sub-par it is. The internet would be rejoicing right now.

Seriously, I had a conversation with someone yesterday who thought Captain America: The Winter Soldier was "just okay" because Joss Whedon didn't write and direct it and ZOMG YOU GUYZ IF HE HAD IT WOULD BEEN SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER CUZ WHEDON IS GOD AND EVERYONE ELSE SUCKS IN COMPARISON FOR REELZ.

Too bad TWS is a better film than The Avengers.

You um... you okay?

I suppose I shouldn't be shocked when Goyer is inevitably announced.

Put Affleck in a room with Terrio and tell him to play.

Those kind of fans are the worst  . While I love the Avengers, I find that the main problem in the film was portraying the characters in a consistent manner. Some of the characters seemed as if it was pandering to the audience's love for the character rather than making each of them badass. Having said that, the Russo Brothers did a lot with Captain America, than Joss Whedon did in The Avengers.

I have faith that Snyder will be consistent with each character given that I loved how he portrayed characters in Watchmen.

I think hell do a great job portraying GL's ring as an actual weapon that alters the physics around it when used as if it was a potable nuclear reactor. Not some of the lame constructs of the GL movie.

Flash, Wonder woman, etc. He is the right guy to make it look cool.

I also think its cool that he is a guy that dedicates himself to the genre. he trully loves it like we all do here.

If they decided to go a different direction from goyer with the next film, I don't see why they'd bring him in to write for an even bigger movie than BvS.

But that's all just personal opinion. For me personally, I thought Man of Steel was much better than the Avengers.

Not to compare apples and oranges, (I think origins should be compared with other origins, teamups with teamups, etc) but although I think Avengers was more well-rounded, better paced, and MUCH better written, I find MOS to be more satisfying, and have stronger moments that stick with me (Supes flying into the world machine and the Clark blanket flashback come to mind.)

I find MOS to have a lot of selective memory involved with some of its critics. "It's bleak and emotionless" (Well, then let's forget about the scenes of Clark with his mom, Lois, the priest, baby Clark being sent off, etc)

Again, I think Avengers was really good. And I think it deserves a bit of its acclaim. Where I think the fanbase goes wrong is to be like "Avengers was awesome, therefore this sucks."

I do seem to recall reading that he signed a three-picture deal, which included Justice League. Granted, this was well before the Terrio rewrite, and I don't know if such a deal was ever confirmed by the studio, but yeah. I'm just waiting for it. I don't get the studio's fascination with him.

Frankly, I've had my fill of Goyer in all things pertaining to DC. I want new blood.

I agree. I think The Avengers was awesome, but if I'm being honest, the only emotion it evokes from me is the whole "throw the rockfist up in the air" thing. Man of Steel hit me on so many different levels... saying it is "emotionless" is just bullsh**, frankly.

It could be that Goyer probably sets up a good overall story that just needs help with refining dialogue and flushing out characters.
