The Opening Sequence: Hated or Loved?

Then what does the Goblin theme sound like? I could have sworn I've heard those notes associated with Harry and Norman on screen, maybe I'm totally wrong.

When Mary Jane wakes up on the bridge in the first Spider-Man, you will hear the theme play.

It is also heard when Harry comes in out of nowhere, blowing up Sandman and taking out Venom, to save Peter.

The Goblin theme is most prominant in SM2 when Harry discovers the Goblin lair behind the mirror.

it was ok I liked spider-man 2 better because of Alex Ross's art

Just one question...
What's the "Uncle Ben" theme?? What does it sound like I mean in the soundtrack?? I have the original score to Spider-Man 2.

It's the last thing that happens in the opening titles...there's that little descending interlude, then all the instruments come back and play the Uncle Ben theme, aka Peter's Theme, aka the Power and Responsibility Theme.

edit: Goes for SM1 and 2. Young cut it out of the end of the titles in SM3.

Which bothered me just a little bit. It's the most powerful part of the entire score...disappointing how they left it out. It was left out because the notes didn't flow well into the music at the beginning.

^No kidding. As soon as I noticed it missing, I knew Young's score was going to be disappointing.

Ohhhhh!!! Yeah! I know what you're talking about now.

Yeah, to tell you the truth, that's one of my favorite parts in the Spider-Man 1 and 2 score. It's like this great crescendo. I love it. When I saw Spider-Man 3 I immediately noticed that this part was missing. But then, I started wondering: "hmmm...maybe it was there and I just wasn't paying attention?" But now that you guys are saying it wasn't there, now I know that it wasn't just my imagination.

Why did Young cut that great part out of the opening score?? I notice that he has the "Uncle Ben theme" in the latter part of the movie when Peter pulls out his old Spidey costume to go save MJ. Makes no sense to me why he would cut that part from the opening.

I like Venom's score, but other than that...everything else was just alright. I personally feel that Spider-Man 1's score was the best. It was most powerful. The drums were more prominent too. :yay:

This is kind of OT but...
If anything, I absolutely hated the beginning to the movie. Just the music, and how everything was so "light and breezy"....ughh...it just looked/felt soooo cheesy! Seeing Spider-Man flying through the city with that cheery music in the background....ugh. Even Peter's opening monologue sounded sooo cheesy. "Yep, that's me! Your friendly neighborhood....well...you know." UGHGHGH!!! :cmad: I really cringed when I saw it.

Part 1 (and even Part 2) opened up much better. Part 2 was kind of cheesy with MJ's face on the billboard, but it was still a better opening monologue.

I absolutely loved the intro. Especially the symbiote theme. Very theatrical.

I liked the opening sequence and thought the symbiote and sand transitions worked well together. However 2 rules in termes of opening credits. Ross is a phenomenal illustrator as proved by those paintings. I wish I had one of those.

It wasn't completely unbearable but it wasn't near the perfection that was Spidey 2. Alex Ross should have been brought back.

I liked the SM3 beginning, but I think SM2's was much better - the music was longer and Alex Ross' paintings were great.

Btw, is there a specific reason why Alex Ross didn't come back for this movie?

if i remember correctly, ross didn't like spidey 2 and refused to do it again.

it went something like that.

Well, I don't want to spoil the party, but I absolutely was disappointed in this opening. I remember at the time thinking, "wow, compared to the first two, this opening is completely uninspired and lazy. Gee, I hope the rest of the movie isn't as uninspired and lazy...................."

:csad:

And I bet I can guess the conclusion of that thought :csad:.

this was the weakest opening of all three movies...

i really didn't want to see a recap of all the films before i watched the last one but i guess there were so many ties to the first film, it was kinda needed to give the audience some sort of recap of what had happened in the first two movies.

something far more creative could have been done instead.

it felt like a hashed down version of the first opening.

You guys really thought it was the worst? I thought it was way better than 1's, just because they brought the whole "Previously on Spider-man" rehash which was so wonderful in the 2nd with the Ross paintings, the opening to 1 was just like, "Look! CGI! CGI is neat."

Of course Alex Ross' paintings were wonderful but I loved this opening sequence, too.

I liked it better than one's, that one is kind of lame and weak. Two is still the best.

I didn't like how it ended and all of the sudden we had uber cheesy opening with Peter being a dork. It sort of works within context of the film, but I just like seeing Peter trying to deliver pizzas on time so much better, heck, even him chasing down the bus was better. It's almost cringe worthy until harry shows up.

the whole movie was very uneven.

The second one was the best, but even though the third one was different, I still liked it. Just seeing the Marvel logo and hearing those pages flipping always gets me excited.
