Yeah, the opening sequence is great. I especially love the music accompanying the ever encompassing symbiote overtaking it.
tempest19 is correct

Cool opening sequence, but it won't beat SpiderMan 2's opening; Alex Ross ROCKS!t:
Well I was kind of disappointed. For three years I prepared myself to hear the same opening as in #1 and #2. I imagined how I'd be sitting in the theater, waiting for the film to begin and then the wonderful opening would begin. I was really surprised when I heard the changed music.
But now after watching the movie three times I have accustomed myself to it. It's great, above all the symbiote theme. I just don't understand why they've included the Sandman theme. The openings of the first two installements didn't have the villain themes? or did they?
SM2 had Ock's theme in the opening.
no it didnt!Did it??

The opening sequence wasn't bad, it was interesting and imo it was better than sm1's but not quite as good as Ross' recap paintings.

Are you guys kidding?![]()
The Ock theme kicks in right when they show the Alex Ross painting of Spidey/Peter clinging to the side of the cage as Bonesaw looks up at him...did you guys even see the movie?![]()

But it still sounded like the opening from the first movie. What I was trying to say is that #3's opening was quite different from the first two movies' opening, and I mean the middle part.
Beginning and ending remained almost the same.
Okay. Let's find a comparison. In this video, check out 1:15 - 1:50. Goblin's theme. By the way, is it all right to post this when the DVD has been out for years? If not, please have a moderator remove it, as I'll be away for a little while.

Now, in the following video, check out 0:53 - 1:22. Ock's theme.

It took me a bit of time to realize the difference, as well, but I eventually figured it out. Notice how both themes are barely noticeable, and they tie into the rest of the piece very well. The Sandman and symbiote themes didn't do that quite as easily, and that's because Christopher Young changed the tempo, and wrote in powerful introductions for them. Different composer, different style. Too bad, though. I would've wanted to hear how Danny Elfman would have interpretated the characters' themes.
The Ock theme kicks in at 00:59 - 01:10.
I can believe some of you guys have to figure it out, it's blantantly obvious to me..now in SM1, i don't hear the GG theme at all...![]()
Edit: I'm pretty sure the theme at 1:20 - 1:43 (of the first video) is the Goblin theme.
Sorry guys but that is not the Goblin Theme, its a variation of the Spider-Man theme. In case you don't believe me, you can hear another version of this variation in the "He's Back!" cue from the second score and the goblin doesn't have anything to do with that scene.
The confusion may come from the fact that Elfman uses the same background music with the Goblin Theme in the End Credits of the first film. But in the main titles, it's a Spider-Man variation...
