The Penguin Casting Thread

A few months back, Justin Kroll said that the plan was for Penguin to be the villain (or one of the villains) in Matt Reeves' Batman film, but if that plan were to change then they'd use the character in Birds of Prey instead. Since we now have confirmation that Black Mask is the main antagonist of Birds of Prey, stands to reason that Penguin is still in play for Reeves' film.

Plot a mob war between the Freaks lead by Black Mask and the mob run by Penguin with a mysterious killer playing both sides

Arkham Origins: The Movie?

Both reasonably stripped-down crime boss type characters. Interesting.

The more that I think about it, the more bizarre it is to me that Nolan never touched Penguin. He's literally just a short, fat gangster with a big nose. All love and respect to Cillian Murphy as Crane, but I could kind of see a scenario where Penguin is the lower-tier villain that's a running thread throughout the trilogy instead of Scarecrow.

The more that I think about it, the more bizarre it is to me that Nolan never touched Penguin. He's literally just a short, fat gangster with a big nose. All love and respect to Cillian Murphy as Crane, but I could kind of see a scenario where Penguin is the lower-tier villain that's a running thread throughout the trilogy instead of Scarecrow.

Penguin could’ve easily taken the place of The Chechen in TDK. There were rumors that Penguin would appear in TDK as an arms dealer for the mob and that PSH would’ve played him. That would’ve been perfect.

It’s a shame, the two people that would’ve been perfect for hypothetical Nolanverse versions of Penguin and Harley Quinn were PSH and Brittany Murphy, and they both tragically died young.

I would’ve killed to see Heath in one more movie alongside Murphy’s Harley.

It is really interesting to think how that film would feel if you swapped out one of the mob bosses for an understated Penguin. I loved the Arkham version of Penguin and really want to see something along those lines on screen one day.

If Leo says yes to any CBM I'll pay my admittance ticket right now. Sadly it doesn't seem likely in the near future. Jonah Hill could work well as Penguin, although I was picturing an older version.

Jonah Hill is by far the best option for Penguin. The dude is on a hot streak, they would be wise to snatch him up.

You have to factor in star power as well. We’re not going to get a complete no name for Penguin if he’s the primary villain. Jonah has all the right qualities to make a truly memorable Penguin

It’s possible that they will go the Superman The Movie/Batman Begins route in casting for The Batman... lesser known actor in the lead role surrounded by a more established supporting cast

It would make sense if Jonah Hill were to be cast especially if Margot is vouching for him considering they worked together on The Wolf of Wall Street and if Matt Reeves likes him then he will end up getting the role
