The Penguin The Penguin on HBO - General Discussion

I heard someone saying the Nelson ratings indicated this show may not be as big of a hit as everyone is claiming? Any truth to that, or more youtuber bologna?
I am guessing you heard that from Grace. :woozy: :dizzy: :gross:It is hard to judge streaming numbers because Netflix and Prime are always going to dominate because they have more viewers. Max is like 4th now and they combine their numbers with HBO. Also Nielson is like 4 weeks behind. Penguin is doing well. It’s viewership is growing every week and the trades are saying it’s a success.

Grace also said the same about Shogun on FX and House of the Dragon HBO/Max. I mean Game of Thrones took years to build up It’s fan base to challenge network shows. Don’t expect a Batman show without Batman to come out of the gate with those kind of numbers but people like Grace will hold the show to that standard and get upset when someone calls her out on it.

Now... you know what would be reaaaally evil?

Hear me out:

What if by the end Oz leaves Sofia in Arkham... But not only that:

he revealed to her during a visit he adopted Gia. Yeah, he is now uncle Oz. They are all just a big happy family and Sofia better play good girl if she wants family to stay intact.

And thats not all, since Gia is one of the last remaining Falcones and since Sofia is deemed insane, Oz bring responsible for Gia has full access to the heritage and Falcones full wealth.

Just like Oz-Vic was that twisted Bruce-Jason, Oz-Gia would be that dark mirror of Alfred-Bruce.

Daaang Now that would be evil as heck. Very much a Penguin thing to do: turned a situation entire to his full profit.

I think Sophia could end up in Arkham as well in the end.

I would love a prequel series about the origin of the asylum, showing the descent into madness of Amadeus Arkham.
That's a great idea, although, I think this would be perfect as another comic book series instead of a tv show.

We’re getting a flashback to young Oswald at some point. I wonder if we’ll see Rex Calabrese in the flesh.

I wouldn't be surprised. Rex, incidentally, is Selina Kyle's biological father in one of her various origin stories.

I mean, to each their own, but your Carmine got got only after trying to choke out his daughter, dude.

Lmao bro is trying to dress up a scheduling conflict. Weird explanation but whatever. He won’t have a role moving forwards anyways.

evilest batman villain carmine falcone.

riddler wouldn't have been THAT bad if he just ended his killing spree at carmine. (still far from a good guy at all!)

but nope, he had to be a bastard and flood the whole city. AND also planned a mass shooting at the new mayor's inauguration. evil edward nashton.

Either that or they didn't offer enough money. Lauren Lefranc had to release a statement on it.

Funny thing is, they showed less in the show then they did in the movie.

He is done in the role regardless and the mark strong recast you can chalk up to it being a "younger" version.

I mean it's possible he may mean women in the show in general, Nadia meet an awful end, Sofia was absolutely brutalized mentally, physically and emotionally her entire episode. It's highly likely Penguin's mother is murdered or dies by season's end and then there's whatever is Sofia's fate along with with The subject in and of itself in episode 4.

I don't think the show is overly violent towards women or at least equally violent but I can see why that's something that would bother him if he was looking for it.

I guess I just don't understand why this would be a more natural or acceptable answer than scheduling conflicts if that truly was the only issue?

Could you imagine? I’d be so happy getting those over a Two Face or Arkham show
I can’t really imagine a whole series devoted to Two-Face (although I probably would’ve said the same for Penguin five years ago, and Two-Face is about to get his first shot at a solo comic, so… that could change), but as District Attorney, I could picture Dent being a factor in a GCPD series.

Arkham, I could go either way on… if we’re talking an origin tale taking inspiration from Grant Morrison and Dave McKean, then I’m into it. If we’re talking a present day series, I’m less certain. There just aren’t enough rogues in the mix at this time to make that feel overly exciting (and I can’t imagine we’d see as much of the Joker as some folks think we would) and it also might dilute the nightmarishness a bit if we get too long a glimpse behind closed doors.

I would like to see another Reevesverse series but don’t overdue it. I think the Penguin coming out two years after the Batman was smart even though it was not intentional because of the writers and actors strike. I would love a show to set up The Batman 3 like Penguin has made me pumped for the Batman 2.

I have negative interest in an Arkham show, Two-Face is super intriguing but Catwoman is where it’s at. Zoe deserves to lead a show - my favourite character in the saga for sure.

for sure, i can imagine doing a catwoman / selina mini-series.

and you can incorporate stuff about wth is going on in arkham and gcpd into it.

or have a gcpd spin-off, and incorporate harvey dent into it.

Honestly, it's been 20 years. Give us a Catwoman movie

I’d rather these were all 2 hour movies frankly. I love Penguin so far but I feel like the best version of itself is just the pilot with another hour attached. But that’s not as sustainable or realistic as lower budget shows.

That would be great but I agree, I dont think it's a realistic possibility. To me, if the tv show sucks, I don't think it effects the batman sequel as much because its far less eyeballs on the show and could even be a different audience.

But if it were a movie, and it sucks, I think it would directly effect the sequel's box office.

I think Catwoman has enough interest, recognition and comic book history to justify a show. To me, that's a no brainer character to at least attempt.

Besides her, I think you need to see which villains pop in the sequel to justify a show, just like the penguin did in the batman. People came out of that moving loving Colin's take. It's easy for us to say, give us a two-face show, but if the general audience isn't talking about his character, I think it may not be worth it.
