I tend not to pay attention to a band's image until after I've LISTENED to them

cuz in the end, clothes come and go, the music is what matters in the end

but i like being closed-minded and judgemental. :csad:

Plas you need to get your irony-meter checked out. :o

back on track:
guilty pleasure for the last few months: Ezra Reich. Song:I need a moment alone.
It's cartoony manic synth bubble gum. not bad. sounds like it belongs in a neon lit malt shop where some used-ta-be-sort-of-cool kids would hang out.

I like to be predictable

keeps people expecting... stuff

oh yeah, go look for Chetes, nice 70's rock pop with an alt-country tinge to it

how come, everybody who uses acoustic guitars and other string instruments is now "alt-country"?

and when did folk become cool?

I like acoustic guitars and all, but, labels are starting to become ridiculous

for some reason at the moment I'm listening to Journey.

turns out they were 1337 before 1337 was 1337. they called one album ESC4P3.

I heard flyleaf and sadly, it's nothing we've heard a thousand times before, yes, they do have some nice ideas here and there, a token great riff every once in a while and "deep" lyrics, but Kittie, Kidney Thieves, Snake River Conspiracy, and many others have done that before

I like their singer's voice more than anything else.

PS - Kittie sucks. A lot. :)

anyone who listened to brittish music in the early 90's should listen to the silversun pick ups, they are being compared to the Smashing Pumpkins but I'm chalking that up to people's ignorance.
they are pretty cool, the guitars are nice and layered and they do the whole wall of sound thing as well as anyone.
plus they do the whole "girl and boy singing at the same time"deal, it's nice, I hope I get to see them live tuesday after next.
totally worth it, buy it, because artists need money and tommy mottola needs to do his wife on a mountain of cocaine while trained seals sing lovesongs in their sprawling mansion.

Two that I'll mention, that I found thanks to iTunes "Just For You" recommendations:

Black Stone Cherry brilliant mesh of riff oriented southern sounding rock and modern metal. Reminds me alot of Shinedown but heavier, and almost as good.

Wolfmother a very Led Zeppelin-esque sound going for them. I think Wilhelm would probably like them if he hasn't already heard them.

one of my wife's coworkers made a copy of their cd for us. they're not bad, but the singer's voice is kind of annoying.

Black Stone Cherry is excellent. We've been talking about Wolfmother in here a bit, too. They're good.

Been all about the post-punk, dream pop scene lately. Mostly Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Sonic Youth etc..

As for newer stuff..I'm seriously feeling Daedelus. Denies the Day's Demise is a breath of fresh air and definitely one of the best albums I've heard in months.

NO! the lead singer for Ladytron...grrrr:cmad::cmad::cmad:
(and you should give their last album a listen, it's like ....kind of My bloody valentine meet The Human League)
Eh, I was a bit disappointed with Witching Hour, though an ok album. The only tracks I'd ever bump was International Dateline and Destroy Everything You Touch..the rest are kinda lackluster. I wish they'd go back to their 604 phase.

Witching Hour Rules!!!!

has anyone heard Ray Lamontagne? I loved his new album, pretty nice work

Asobi Seksu:

I'm sure the badn name is something about sex, ASIAN sex, they are a band out of new york that sing sometimes in english sometimes in Japanese, sometimes a guy sings, sometimes a girl sings. their first album was OK. but their new one "citrus" is pretty awesome.
the guitar work is decent, but the singing is goooood! I loved it.

Bright Channel:

One word (hyphenated) shoogazery-yummyness ha!!!!!!!

okay....I don't know if I already talked about these guys, but the search function is impossibly wonky and I'm in a bad mood

MEW
they're a danish band that are actually pretty good, they're competent musicians, they can have some nice moments within songs.
the voice work though, is not for everyone, beware.
