February? Damn, that's quick. Hopefully it won't be a featureless single-disc release.

they tried to put to much on the cover, I would have been cool with just the regular theatrical poster, with the smoke and each of the magicians on each side.

is there gunna be any sort of SE with this?

Also, I liked the movie alot, I do however think it is a bit overrated, and I also thought it wasn't the best movie about Magicians made this year

the prestige overrated? i disagree...if anything its underrated in the mainstream media.
and its a greater movie about human behaviors :p

Damn straight, Unkonwn. Its my best movie for a long while.

and yes, amore understated cove would have been much more suitable.

The Prestige is just over the $52 million mark in America... I'm not calling it a bomb, but I was surprised that the positive word of mouth didn't lift it more??

This thing should have a growing shelf life, but still it's disappointing when The Santa Claus 3 makes more $$$ than Deja Vu, The Prestige, and The Marine... ;) Okay, I was kidding about the last one!

I blame it on Buena Vista. It had very good legs the first couple weeks, than they quickly dropped the theaters, I think the studio wanted more theaters for that crap Santa Clause 3, which was probably a lot more expensive and was taking longer to bring its money back. If they had it a little longer, I´m sure it would have done 55m or 60m. Anyway, 52m is not bad for a 40m budget movie, especially one that opened at less than 15m.

The movie made 78 million $ worldwide up to today and it still has to open in Spain, Italy and Japan.
It's not a great success but not a bomb either.

I think it's done well given it's limited appeal
Yeah, it´s not the kind of movie the studio expects to make a fortune. It´s gonna make a profit and that´s enough.

It was better than any movie that came out during the summer, that's for sure!

I think it will do amazing on dvd.
Yeah, it´s a perfect movie for DVD, it needs the repeat viewing experience.

52 million isn't bad for a 40 million dollar movie about turn of the century Magicians plus as it is mentioned, it should do very well on dvd

Nah, its about what it should be in mainstream media, 75 percent or so on RT, like a 7/10 on IMDB, 78 million worldwide gross. Those numbers equel about as good of a movie as the Prestige was, excellent flick, not greatness though.

I more so think it is overrated on these boards, with some joes calling it the best movie of the year, which it most certianly isn't. It is a fanboys wet dream, so I would expect nothing less from these boards, but I also do think it is a good movie, just not great

Great movie and one of the best of 2006.
Christopher Nolan strikes again.
It is one of my personal favorite movies.

The DVD cover is meh.
The theatrical poster was better.
Jackman looks all old and stuff in that DVD picture, too.

actually its got an 8.1 on imdb and its on its top 250 movies ever list.

i love the movie.

^ That's great, I am not saying you shouldn't love it, it is a movie and movies are as subjective as it gets, I like it alot, I think it might be one of the finest directing jobs of the year. I honestly feel though, that a good portion of folks on these boards think it is this great movie, that should go down in history with like Goodfellas as an instant classic. Like i said, good not great, there is nothing wrong with being good, only few can be great, Prestige just isn't that.

I still don't even think it was the best magician movie of the year, I know they are two almost uncomparable movies, but I thought Illusionist had some of the finest acting in cinema this year with Norton, and Giamatti, and that movie was more about the Dance, then the Prestige was about the music playing at the dance

Doesn't sound like a lot and there is nothing on if this is a one or two disc set.i'm not a huge fan of floaty heads on DVD covers but this is okay there isn't much difference between this and the poster for the U.S. it would hve been nice if they used the international one though but WB owns those rights.Other than the fact both movies were about magicians around the same era in time I don't see why the comparision of The Prestige antd The Illusionist. They were two good films about magic with good acting and visually photography. I liked both with The Prestige getting the edge because the ending was better for me .
For the interested here is The Illusionist dvd cover it's out January 9th :

I thought The Illusionist was just not bad movie. It was more about love story than mysterious twists, and that's not what I usually prefer.

While "The Illusionist" is much more a love story revolving around a magician, "The Prestige" is a penetrating look at two magicians whose obsession to best one another at the trade of magic.
