The Punisher...Underrated?

yr.one was released in 1994.

that's like using Wolverine:Origin as a statement of proof. Bone Claws. Get a clue.

Marvel, continually mucking about in their continuity told Franks Story and origins long before that.

come again my brother.

So just because something was written in the 90's it doesnt count? Great logic there, *****ebag. And Year One is universally loved by pretty much every Punisher fan I've talked to who read it, so it's not like it's something that was introduced and people couldn't stand, ala the bone claws argument. Oh yeah, speaking of which, the bone claws are still in continuity, and still count. So that argument doesn't even make sense.

Come again, a**hole.

Punisher was dramatically underbudgeted and everybody was expecting it to be a flop, and some still say it was a flop, but it was a decent movie. And it had heart damnit.

You are my new best friend!!!! :unishr:

I LOVED THE PUNISHER and i want a sequel dammit!

The Punisher is Greater than the Hulk

I dont see what was wrong with the Punisher, sure it wasn't great, but it certainly wasn't boring or anything.

I liked both Hulk and the Punisher movies but. Could they have been done better? Yes. Had the Hulk cut down on the melodrama a bit and running time it would not have been as ripped. The Punisher's problems in my eyes was in the casting of the villain and the local and the overall lack of grit required for this kind of movie.

wow.
that's great, your opinion means more than mine.
By the way I saw your Mom last night and she wishes you well. She might look a bit different when you get home I've shaved her back.
Your Punisher film still stinks as much as your breath.

In the meantime this isn't how I feel so my trumpet in your mouth.

Punisher wasn't such a bad flick, but it certainly isn't great, either. Thomas Jane is Frank Castle, both emotionally and physically, and the fight scenes were largely entertaining. The movie's major flaw was Howard Saint. John Travolta played him as whiny and effeminate, which are not good traits for a corrupt businessman to have. Hell, he wasn't even the meanest person in his family; I found his wife to be more despicable.
I think Punisher just goes to show how much a lame villain can bring down the quality of a superhero movie. In terms of Marvel movies, I rank Punisher ahead of Daredevil (theatrical cut,) Elektra, the other Punisher movie, and Fantastic Four and just behind the Spider-Man movies. :o

Some good points you have there...

His wife was supposed to be more dispicable. It was an intentional MacBeth thing. People don't seem to get that this movie is supposed to be a shakespearean tragedy done as a western in modern times.

if I was a lesser man (read: whiney little b**ch) I would report him to the mods for that, but I think his patheticness is sort of funny. He may have been trolling since he got here, but I've been over on the Punisher forums pwning trolls since they announced the damn movie :o

I had never thought of that. Thanks for pointing that out. It makes total sense.

This may seem weird but...I love you Joker...

*jumps up and down on furniture* I love you guys so much!!!!!

Watching the Punisher again last night it is definately underrated and i hope to god the sequel gets made.

Nooope, doesn't seem underrated to me. It's just not that good a punisher movie.

I just remember watching it and not really thinking it's really anything special besides the cool russian fight that unfortantely was constantly interrupted by that silly scene with the two unfunny dorks next door playing around.

It sucks that it's really not that much better than dolph lundgren's version. So then I think it's rated ok. The next one, I hope will be much better.

Nah. I think it is a mediocre B-movie that is entertaining for the same reasons a pile of crap like Snakes on a Plane gets I and the rest of the audience to applaud...the sheer stupidity of it all.

I think an underrated Marvel movie would be Hulk followed by the director's cut of Daredevil.

To be ffare though Punisher was better than Elektra, Blade Trinity, X3 and Fantastic Four though, which were all steaming piles of crap really.

QFT :ninja:

Just about everything is severely underrated or even overrated once it passes through here. People around here tend to go to the extreme on their opinions. Like the Monty Python and Evil Dead series for example. Very well reknowned over here but the truth is you won't find that many that have even heard of it. Movies like Fast and The Furious and xXx make a lot of money and (even though I dislike these movies myself) the public is blamed for having terrible taste. Like I said, extremes.

Anyway, The Punisher, Daredevil, X3, Hulk...Everyone I know likes em. Literally. I haven't heard one bad thing from the people I talk to in person. Just the internet guys here. Hell, my mom liked The Punisher. It's strange really.

QFT again:ninja:

it's damn true. SHH has this idea in its head that everything belongs to an extreme. It's either gods gift to us or deserving to spend the night in the dumpster.

Punisher, while I thought that tom jane works almost perfectly in the role (And he completely nails the punisher in the video game version), just didn't have the best script unfortunately... and that kills me because this was a great opportunity to do punisher justice like he's never gotten before. The movie was made cheap, and it certainly looked cheap, with few really kickass punisher moments to remember. The trailer's better than the movie, imo. :ninja: Though I liked parts of it, like that great moment where Pun contemplates suicide and remembers his wife and kid before stopping himself. That's probably one of the best moments I've ever seen for a character in a comicbook movie, but the movie for me didn't work as a whole. Maybe the romance with mystique or the goofy next door neighbors was the prob, or the way Pun was revived by that weird magic man.... I cant recall everything...

In my opinion it was a good movie now there is a foundation for a great movie

When I first saw DD the director's cut, I felt cheated out of the $ I spent when I saw it at the theater. The DC was a MUCH better movie and quite underated. Thank God USA and other stations that replay it play the DC.

As for The Punisher, it had some good stuff. It had blood, it had heart, it had good interaction with the characters. Travolta was over the top as Saint, and was not believable as a cutthroat villian. But, somehow the movie did work, I liked it better than Hulk. Not that this opinion means anything to anyone :woot: but The Punisher is THE ONLY "superhero" movie my wife has ever enjoyed. Ever.

I think you are missing some things Wesyeed, for 1 there was no romance with Joan (Rebecca Romijn), she liked him, but he turns her down flat. And the Witch Doctor didnt revive Frank, Frank was alive when Canderleria found him, he just patched him up. And the neighbours were meant to be goofy, but good hearted people, so Frank could gain some humanity back and give him another reason to carry on.

Just thought i'd clear some things up for you:yay:
