I have a quick question, I wasn't a huge fan of the first as I thought it got repetitive as it went on and the final fight was flat out silly. Are the action sequences in this one better paced?
The climactic battle in this one must go on for about 10 solid minutes, and by the end of it the two guys are literally taking slices out of each other with blades and still fighting as chunks of skin go flying in the air around them. So if ridiculous violence isn't your bag, this might not be for you....
However, while I absolutely loved The Raid, if you prefer steadier pacing, this one is more of a slow-build, with the first two thirds of the movie more of an epic crime story with sporadic AMAZING FIGHT SCENES peppered through, before building to a closing 45 minutes which is just crazy back-to-back AMAZING FIGHT SCENES.

Thanks guys, it's not absurd stunts that I have a problem with it's two guys fighting non stop for 10 minutes straight, which sounds like is the case again here.
The only fight I think they could've cut from this movie was the Prakoso one, actually maybe both of his fights. They weren't necessary but I guess they felt it would've been too long without any action.
The other ones I think all had elements that made them engaging and fun to watch throughout.
Well there's nobody here I'd trust more on action movies than you man, so I'll give it a shot when it opens next week and I just bought the first film for £6.50 to get ready lol.
I saw a couple people complain it had Bourne like shaky cam and they couldn't tell what was gong on. Doesn't sound like Gareth Evans style to me, any truth in that? There's shaky cam in the first film but you can clearly see what's happening.

Thanks brother. Believe me, there's still a lot of excess and the main character still could've used way more development. The side characters all get more character stuff than him.

I barely noticed the shakey cam I guess I'll be more aware of it on another viewing. When you consider how many other films use it so poorly Evans seems like an expert in this film.
Car chase was fantastic, showed off the badassery of [BLACKOUT]Eka[/BLACKOUT]. No its not, it occurs right before [BLACKOUT]the raid on the restaurant[/BLACKOUT] which I consider the climax. Well unless you consider the final third of the film the climax.

I didn't have a problem with the 2 vs 1 final fight in the first film. But I have a problem with the final/kitchen fight in this one... too long and looks repetitive.
But other than that... everything was AWESOME. The kitchen fight was the only fight that I felt too long. The others had good pace. (Nothing like the hallway fight in the first one, either.)

[BLACKOUT]I love the part where Eka had this who-can-load-the-gun-faster sort of race with Bejo's guy, and he held the gun with his mouth (his two hands were busy driving the car and other stuff).
I thought that was so cool![/BLACKOUT]

You're feelings about the kitchen fight is exactly how I felt about the 2 vs 1 from the last movie. I thought the kitchen fight had the right amount of escalation and variety to keep it fresh.
[BLACKOUT]Prakoso fight scenes were necessary because he was the catalyst of all the mayhem happened afterwards, imho.[/BLACKOUT]
Im not exactly sure what his first fight was about, I know it was a job from Bangun but who was it that he killed?
And the 2nd fight where Prakoso was killed was suppose to start a war. But couldn't they have achieved that anyways when Bat Boy and Hammer Girl went on a massacre, such a scene could've served the same purpose. So what I'm saying is the character of Prakoso himself just didn't feel all that necessary, especially when we see scenes of his personal life that just pads the runtime.
