The remake was better than the original...

The Departed
King Kong

Haven't seen the original 3:10 to yuma (love the remake), or the original Ocean's Eleven (like the ocean's series)

How much crack did you smoke today? The original stop motion effects look like mere childrens' toys compared to the realistic Kong of the 2005 film.

LOL, the 2005 King Kong didn't look realistic. You can't call that realistic.

It hasnt been mentioned, and this might be blasphemy to some,..But The Night of The Living Dead remake. The one with Tony Todd?
I cant quite bring myself to say definitively I like it better than the original,..but its close.

"King Kong" won Academy Awards for visual effects, didn't it? It looked very realistic. It looked infinitely more realistic than the '33 original anyway. It seems you just really hate CGI. I hate bad CGI (in movies like "Eragon"), but when done right (like in "King Kong"), it looks great.

my own personal view of CGI is its an enhancer but the new King Kong relies pretty heavily on it.

It shouldnt be a selling point unless innovative but the techniques we have already seen

I also see no reason to remake a movie in order to update effects. Nowadays, i feel there is a greater love for classical film then their use to be and the technique of remakes should be used for movies that werent as good as they could have been story wise.

The original remakes were used to revitalize the movie industry after the creation of the television thus Ben-Hur remake being one of the best movies ever put on film. Theres no need for this process anymore thus films with good concepts and poor execution should be remade

Personally I think that people are off their rocker if they prefer the special effects in the original Kong over the remake, however I am definitely in the camp that views it as a better film. For starters it is a much tighter and more intense thriller, and I thought several of the characters (most notably Denham and Driscoll) come off as much more realistic in the original. I also prefer the Kong/Ann relationship in the original where Ann is just as afraid of Kong as everybody else is.

As for the the topic, well since this is Easter the film that immediately comes to mind is Ben-Hur. The race scene in the remake is one of the best action scenes ever, even to this day and the whole film is so much more poignant than the silent version.

cronenbergs "the Fly" is alot better than the original, imo.

13 Ghosts
The Nutty Professor
House On Haunted Hill
The Fly
Godzilla 98, It wasn't the goofy over the top man in a suit japanese version of Godzilla but it was still entertaining for what it was.

Scarface
The hills have eyes
dawn of the dead

Pffft. The original Scarface is miles ahead of the '83 remake!

the 83 Scarface was the biggest most overrated steaming pile of crap I ever saw.

I second that.
Pacinos Scarface character is a joke.Runty punk who ran his mouth way too much. The entire movie itself is almost a parody.Complete nonsense

I'm not arguing whether it's a bad movie or not. All I'm saying is it was better than the original. However, rappers are stupid for looking up to Scarface as a role model, because look at where Tony Montana ended up.

Really? I thought it was an interesting idea, but I still prefer the original.

The Thing (Although I really don't think it's a remake, just another retelling of the Original Short Story)

Night of the Living Dead

Scarface

The Fly

The Blob

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

That's one of the only things I didn't like about Jackson's remake - their relationship (Kong and Ann's) was essentially a dressed up version of the relationship between the two from the '77 debacle.

A few people are saying the Departed, maybe I should finally buck up and finally see it. Infernal Affairs ranks pretty high in my favourite movies of all time. If the Departed is so much better than I may actually enjoy it.

Though people have also listed the TCM and Dawn of the Dead remakes as better than the originals and to me they don't even hold a candle to them.
