The remake was better than the original...

Wotw
Assault on Precinct 13
The Hills have eyes

Fantastic 4.... Nah, the original was actually better. Sadly.

Didn't the original Dawn of the Dead have zombies dancing to a workout video?

Red Dragon

The original Manhunt whilst has its scary parts Hopkins is Hannibal

Alot of people just seem to be rating the films purely on who was in them...

For instance thousands will rate I Am Legend as being better because it has Will Smith but I have to say Charlton Heston is brilliant in Omega Man and its more accurate to the book than I Am Legend is.

Known actors dont make a film...Its all about how its portrayed/made....lighting,sound and hundreds of other factors affect it...CGI isnt everything....

Watch some of the oldies and you'll appreciate them alot more.

I think it's best for everybody in here to be chill, and just calm it down a bit. I mean, everybody has their own opinion. If you have your opinion, let it be. If you have a bias toward or against older films, let it be. Don't try to cast your opinion on someone because you think it's superior.

Hills Have Eyes (Original sucked)

No way, the original rules and the remake is turd.
Same for TCM, the remake was a stinking sun hardened turd.

For remakes that top the original I can only think if The Fly. Though the original Fly pic was great too.

The Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake was good, but it has been a long time since I saw it.

The Departed (has much better dialogue than Infernal Affairs and ,IMO, is better acted/directed).
John Carpenter's The Thing
Ben Hur (1959)
Cronenberg's The Fly.

Funny Games. Michael Haneke remade his own film, shot for shot but for an American audience. The only reason it's better than its German counterpart is because of its actors.

To me the key phrase in that sentence is "at the time." The original is interesting, but hasn't aged very well.

I actually think the Jessica Biel Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the better horror movies of the last ten years (not that there's a ton of competition).
Agreed. I know I liked it better than the original.

I just remember a zombie movie where the they break into a house and are about to eat whoevers in there but then they get distracted by a workout show on the TV. They start watching it and bobbing along. I thought it might've been dawn of the dead.

sounds more like return of the living dead 2 brand humor

I guess I'll just have to disagree with you on this one. Say what you want about the original not holding up well overtime which I think it did due to the fact that Hooper filmed it to almost look like a documentary.

I just found the remake to be one big cash in like most of the recent horror films. It had as you mentioned a new up and comming sweet ass/**** actress Jessica Biel and they went for the blood/gore factor as well as cliche jump out at you scares.

To say it's one of the better ones in the last ten years I'll mildly agree with you on that one.

Rob Zombies Halloween imho
I liked zombies take on the Mike Myers character, but I prefer Carpenters since so little ids know about Michael Myers which is what makes makes him so crazy and fearful. That and his crazy face.

King Kong and War of The Worlds.
uh huh. That's right. I said it. And I stand by it!

Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 version of "The Ten Commandments"
