The Return of Hush

I recently picked this up, as well as Batman : Year one.

Do you need to read Hush before you read the return? Or can they be viewed as two seperate stories, as my comic book store doesn't have hush :(.

You can't have bought this run yet because it doesn't come out for another couple of weeks.

I'm assuming you bought Lieberman's Hush Returns in which I feel really, really sorry for you. :o

Grommers whatever you do, do not buy Hush Returns. Read it somewhere else (if you really have to) but do not waste your money on it. It's totally different from the original, it screws continuity and characters so it's pretty much been ignored anyway, and it's generally tedious to read. The better follow up to Hush is 'Under the Hood' which deals properly with the return of Jason Todd. Nothing important happens in Hush Returns that you need to know. Hush will be in an upcoming 5-parter in Detective Comics by Paul Dini which is guaranteed to be awesome. That will be the REAL continuation of the character after his namesake introduction story.

edit - oops. I misread your post, you already bought it. ha ha. Yes, the first Hush story intros the character and is a nice tour of the Batman mythos, and while it's extremely over-rated in my opinion it's a definitely story worth reading, especially for newer fans. You should order it. But yes they are pretty much separate stories. It's just that Hush Returns it's a steaming turd.

Okay, I just finished reading it the Hush Returns by Lieberman.

I enjoyed it, the art I thought was good, but alas I'm still new to the comic world, not to mention it doesn't really have a finish a conclusion. Am I to expect that more from the comics? or what...I was left wanting a lot more, with a lot of opened end questions....

Dini's issue was really good...

Haven't been disappointed so far.

T'was a terrific first issue.

Loved Hush's creepy hospital.

Dini ties up all of Loeb's loose ends (which he was too lazy to tie together anyway). More flashbacks to Elliot's past and finally (finally!) an emphasis on medicine and hospitals which should've been Hush's gimmick in the first place. The reciting of fables which could've ended up corny under someone else's helm was perfectly tackled by Dini.

And beautiful Nguyen art as always. What else is new? :o

I love these guys.

yea this issue was very promising start...i can only imagine how good the next 4 are going to be....i think the only way it connects to RIP is the fact that they mention jezebel jett...other than that there seems to be no connection and i wouldnt have it any other way

I believe Hush will have something do with Doctor Hurt.

^ yea your probably right, RIP isnt really doing anything for me tho, its too confusing and morrison is all over he place

Me too a lot of the things he said in this issue like "beware the man who can strike from a distance" lead me to believe he will be intertwined with R.I.P. somehow.

I was never a big fan of the Hush arc at all I personally thought it was just so so. But I did like this issue though agree with those who appreciated that Dini did more fleshing out in one issue than Loeb did in an entire arc. Also enjoyed the portrayal of the Batman/Catwoman dynamic.

An admirable effort at making Hush cool and more cohesive. but imo the character is just lame at a DNA level, Dini's stuck trying to polish a turd. I'm still very interested still.

I agree. I still think Hush's motivation for hating Batman is lame.

But I do think Dini can make something really entertaining out of it. First step in the right direction was giving more detail into Tommy's childhood and his friendship with Bruce.

Hush was great and all, it was just badly written the last time.

Although i did think that time when the joker was running through that field was kinda funny though. lol.

Hey everybody I haven't read a Detective comic in years is this a issue good issue to pick up or would it be too confusing to me?

It shouldn't be too confusing as most of Dini's work on this run has been very selfcontained. But of course it will still read better if you know what's come before, for instance some of the stuff between Selina and Bruce refers to his previous quasi-relationship with Zattana, and Dini's been weaving interesting stuff with the Riddler and the new Vequilotrist all throughout his run and guessing from a recent cover they'll be signifigant in this arc too. It's building slowly. But most importantly I don't think the first issue of Return of Hush is really a good measure of the quality of Dinis entire run so far. You'll be missing the best bits. So I have to say just spend the money on the Batman: Detective tpb which is where it all starts. This is the best Detective Comics has been for a long long time.

The first issue of this was great. Unlike Leibermans, it actually connected to the original Hush in a meaningful, sensible way. And more background on Hush is good. As was his crazy hospital.

definitely looking forward to this one... I enjoyed the Batman: Hush arc very much...

I like Hush and the b-man and all, but i really love the fact that Dini is gettin in on this.

I hate how Hush always just lives in the past.

"BRUCE WAYNE HOW COME YOU GOT THIS BLAH BLAH BLAH I HATE YOU BRUCE WAYNE BLAH BLAH I WISH MY PARENTS DIED!"

I finally picked this up and overall the story is great but I can't say much for the art. Can't wait till next week.
