Transformers The Reviews Thread

there are lots of pop culture references in the film...a kid after witnessing a meteor crash says the armageddon line...
wolverine gets mentioned although it wrong...in the film its said that wolverine has 4 claws on each hand.
there are nods to G1 that will make u giddy..
cybertron looked like an organic metallic planet...the opening scene looked more organic but a shot later in the film showing cybertron ravaged, it looked much more metal...
optimus says that centuries of war between the 2 races basically destroyed the planet.
man i cant wait to go watch it again.....optimus is my hero again...[until dark knight comes out]. i am walking around today quoting prime references and all that geekgasm stuff.
seriously, take what u want out of the story, some of u wont be able to get passed certain elements of the film that u may dissagree with, but u can be safe in knowing that optimus prime ROCKS!!! and i can guarantee all u hardcore TF fans will be drooling all over the cinema floor every time prime is on screen.....
even megatron for that matter...he is BADASS!!.
and seeing this iconic faceoff between the 2 leaders in photorealistic glory is astounding...esspecially with their fighting conversation!!! and u seriously get all pumped up when prime says his classic, " one will stand, one will fall"!!!
also an awesome little scene that the audience loved, showing megatrons utter evilness was when he and prime had crashed hard to the ground, as megatron is getting up he goes" disgusting" and flicks a human off him like an ant!! it was tops...
after the huge dissapointment of SM3, and the generic FF2. TFs is a huge scale comic book come to life and then some.....i loved it, cheesey warts and all...

All my friends who saw the movie in the last week found it enjoyable. If I'm not too tired after work, I'll be seeing it tomorrow.

I've heard this happens:

Jazz says "What's crackin' li'l *****es" when all the Autobots re-group in the alley after they land on Earth and get their alt-modes. This is just after Prime states that they picked up English off the Internet. It didnt sound out of place, to me. It was sort of like Jazz was quoting something or the other.

Is this true?

Hmm, I hadn't heard about the internet connection. That kind of relaxes me a little bit. And I kind of think that sounds funny.

I think the internet reference comes after the introductions where Jazz says that, but I honestly can't remember.

No they didn't, they got it right. There are three scratches it the wall, and one guys says 'was freddy kruger here?' and the other guys says 'no man there are three claw marks - thats wolverine!!!!'

Hey, what was the Optimus Prime line that won the competition?

No no relax... it IS One SHALL... they haven't screwed anything up.
The classic TF transformation sound IS also there more than once but you just won't care... n regardless what the other guy posted the Wolverine reference was NOT done wrong.
There are 3 claw marks and the 1st guy goes "Who the heck did that Freddy Cruger" and the 2nd guy goes "No man... Freddy Cruger gots 4... that's 3 claws... that's Wolvering... growl !!"
Sooo... yeah.
Look I just dont wanna give out the spoilers 'cause it'll just ruin your enjoyment ok !?
Specially when some of them are not even giving accurate spoilers.
Yes the "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" is there as well so is Megatron calling the humans "disgusting creatures"
So is decepticon chanting together "All hail MEGATRON"
So is Megatron meeting starscream and saying "You have failed me YET again... Starscream"
And when Megs and Prime squares off for the 1st time Megs does look at prime and the old standoff of...
Megatron.: PRIME !!!
Prime: MEGATRON !!!
And then they both jump at each other is also there.
When starscream arrives in the battle the 1st time Iron-hide gets scared and yells "Its STARSCREAM" and you have all the Autobots stopping at their tracks to look.
If you want a list of how many cool and fanboy things they got right instead of wrong then fellows that's gonna be a HUGE list.
So... chill... and wait and then go and enjoy the movie.
Oh yeah 1 piece of advice... you might wanna sit a lil bit to the back seat whn watching this... lol. Yes its 'cause so that you can see the final battle better.
P.S. - Frenzy was awesome... you can understand WHY they call him Frenzy.

Sounds Cool ! I Usually sit 2/3 up from the screen right in the center when watching movies. In order to get the seat though I'll probably have to get in line early. I got the tickets for the 8 pm premiere show on Monday. I can't wait!

Dude... 3 seats from the screen... you are gonna see blur in this movie trust me.
Here [Australia] the rows the labelled with Alphabets with A being the total front... we sat on G and even then it looked blurry during the final fight 'cause it was so fast and well... big.

Friend of mine saw it. He told me to let go of Generation 1 and accept the changes they made ... because ( and I quote him ) : "Hot damn , its for the best! This movie really r0xx0red my b0xx0rz!"

Exactly.
Most people don't understand that changes are not always bad. Specially when you had a very silly material to begin with.
From my perspective if Megatron turned into a hand-gun I would've hated the movie I mean honestly... I seriously would you take a villain who turns into a handgun !?
Then Starscream as well... for the people who complained... would any of us actually preferred him screaming, complaining and nagging with a raspy voice every 5 mins like the animation !?... no.
The changes fit... unlike the animation... here they not only fit, they enhance the characters... the movie.
In the movie they look like super advanced alien robots instead of stiff blocky toys with human faces.

:)

And besides , the cartoon has soooooo much Transformers in it and ( in the end ) they started to copy the existing ones. I'm glad they took a different approach for the movie. Now , when all the Decepticons and Autobots stand together you would KNOW who's who!

Unless you have sophisticated concept art from ILM that shows the G1 designs wouldn't look right please refrain from such baseless assumptions.

What's the difference between Bay's version of Jazz's face and the G1 version? Can you honestly say people would boycott the movie if Jazz' face looked more like the G1 version?

and Jazz's body looks alot more like a toy than the G1 version. Does that matter to you are you just looking for an excuse to justify all changes Bay made no matter how pointless or misguided the changes were?

Get over it blind_fury.

Alot of people saw the movie. Saw the Transformers and thought they were awesome.

Really man , your negative **** is getting old. If you dont want to see Transformers because it isnt the movie you WANTED , then dont see it and stop nagging.

They don't, simply put. The cartoon and comic constantly stretched and morphed the Transformers in ways that simply don't look believable in real life. Stretchy and bending metal don't work on screen. This should be obvious when you consider the fact that there wasn't any G1 toy that was accurate to it's show appearance design. In addition none of those designs offer the full range of motion the new ones do. Get your head out of your butt.

Jazz actually has a human face in this movie, as does Prime. In fact I see this as an improvement because Jazz and Optimus are the most human of the Transformers. Jazz being a human, pop culture obsessed robot and Prime probably being the one with the most empathy and love of the humans. The Decepticons themselves would have no need for human faces, in fact they'd want to be as monsterous as possible. Furthermore Jazz and Optimus face (as well as everyone else) has to be more complex. If jaws and eyes are going to be able to move, cheaks form and mouths form words you'd have to have an abundance of moving parts. Humans have the luxury of skin, but are otherwise extremely complex underneath, robots wouldn't have this luxury because they are inorganic.

Howso? Considering the original Jazz was based on a toy:whatever: and this one wasn't. He doesn't look like a toy to me, certainly nothing I've ever owned. Alternators look like toys, G1 figures look like toys, but Jazz doesn't look like a toy...it's far to complex to be any toy.

Yeah, what lazy and cliche way to distinguish the good guys from the bad.

The bad guys look like fanged monsters and the good guys don't. Decepticons are not a separate species. They're a separate race/religion/creed. Which is a parallel of the ideological differences between human tribes, military forces and sects that have cyclical civil wars that go on and on and on until people forget how it started.

I agree with you here. The whole monster thing is contrived and pandering. But, it seems to fit with the "ethnic stereotypes abound" line from The Variety review. Luckily, the avg audience member doesn't catch on to stuff like that on the conscious level.

That's nothing new to Transformers at all. The Decepticons only looked like Autobots because the original toyline they came from simply wanted all of them to be human piloted drones. But look at the later concepts and later toys. Pretenders featured monsters versus humanoids. Jets versus cars was a pretty standard designation right from the beginning. The Headmasters were all vehicles versus monsters. And the third series featured similar designations with easy to define villains like Cyclonus, Galvatron, Sharkticons, Scourge and the Quintessons.

And the truth is, in this film, Bumblebee face is no less monterous than Brawls. Barricade and Megatron aren't any more alien looking than Ironhide or Ratchet.

Go make a Bay cheerleader thread where you can circle jerk over the movie without critical analysis

I think the constant "teh explosion rulez!!!1!" summary of the movie is getting old.

As a someone who is satisfied by empty spectacle I'd prefer a more sophisticated examination of the movies strengths and weaknesses. Sue me.

And it was contrived and pandering when they did it too. It put them squarely in simplistic craptitude with the rest of the cartoons at the time whereas the original stood apart. Luckily, when Transformers was doing this, TMNT blew em away.
