Id love to see the MCMG back together but I like what they are doing as singles stars.

:whatever:

Look who's on top and center. I get that the Authority is the main storyline but Bryan should have been the focus on the cover

Goldust should also be on the cover.

Actually, the whole thing could just be various Daniel Bryan vs Shield matches, Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton matches, and Mark Henry's "retirement" promo.

That's a good point. No company is going to match WWE and that obsession would run them all into the ground. It will be interesting to see what happens nonetheless.

The news about Mysterio really sucks. I remember meeting him last year and he really wanted to get back in the ring. It has to be over. Also sucks about Angle. I would of loved to see him do one last Wrestlemania. Also I think Christian deserves better. At least give him a good send off.

Yeah I think christian was one of the few WWE guys besides Angle to improve their product. I want him to finish in the E but you just know they'll f*** him with some stupid angle on the way out. They've wasted him for most of the last couple of years when he wasn't hurt. He could go back and do some good stuff in TNA. Christian and Aries or he and Roode would be good. But like I said Id rather he finished in WWE

- We noted before that it was a Vince McMahon decision to make changes to Big E and Cesaro's name this past week. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer adds that somebody within WWE thought "Antonio" sounded like the name of a guy who wasn't tough, and that's why he's just being called Cesaro now.

- Regarding Rey Mysterio possibly being injured at Tuesday's SmackDown tapings, WWE's internal injury report for this week came out and Rey was not listed on there. Either WWE officials don't know if Rey is injured, it's being kept off internal reports or the injury wasn't significant.

- As noted, the WWE NXT
Arrival pay-per-view will air on the WWE Network at 8pm EST on February 27th. Word is that it will be a two-hour event.

How much longer is his contract? Maybe after he "fails" at EC, they could have him cut a promo about that "one more match" he is always talking about, and say that this time it really is just one more match, and point to the WM sign.

Cue the music for whichever young star he wants to put over in his last match (preferably Ziggler or Cesaro... Both would be great matches, and he and Ziggler could battle on the mic leading to WM).

so in the Olympics, we had a situation yesterday in Men's Figure Skating where the favorite to win Gold, and the home country hero, Evgeni Plushenko, was forced to withdraw from competition ( and retire ) right before he was scheduled to skate.

He had injured his back in practice the day before and was feeling pain in the warmups before the event. He's 31 and already has had 12 surgeries I think.

What's even more surprising, though, is that Russia DIDN'T HAVE A 2nd skater in the event!!

Maybe they were so confident that Plushenko was going to win that they didn't bother to enter a 2nd guy in the event. Who knows......

But the situation did remind me a bit of the WWE.

They put so much into 1 or 2 top stars, like Cena. And it seems they don't do a very good job of building up new talent, or else building them up to be top/viable stars, too.

And wrestling, just like figure skating, is a very physically demanding arena.

The top stars aren't going to compete forever. They're going to get injured. or retire.

But if you put all of your eggs into one basket and fail to properly build up a "solid bunch" of newer/younger talent..........you're gonna find yourself in deep ****.

I wonder how Cody will do once he re-enters the singles ranks? I think he'll be on the cusp of being a Main Event player.

Seems like they are finally starting to plan for when Cena steps down. Barring injury he's got a few more years left but the next three to five years are going to be very interesting as we see a transition and a rise of new stars. Like you said though they should have had someone ready and experienced enough to step into that top spot immediately should Cena go down with a career ending injury. When Hogan went away they at least had a few options. If he went down hurt they had Savage or Piper and a few others that could at least fill in. Guys with experience who were over who had produced great matches. Imagine if Bret had been booked like some of today's guys when he became champion?

When Michaels retired the first time Austin was already ready to be the guy and there were others in to take Shawn's spot as a rival.

When Austin was out for surgery there was Rock, HHH, foley, Taker. Guys to fill the void. A few years later there was Angle, Benoit, Guerrero, Lesnar, etc. Guys who may not have been the best options to be face of the company but they could all carry the load together and that's what they did.

WWE's had a few guys like that this era but they've been booked like sh**. Can't believably turn that kind of damage around in a day. Recently there was Punk...and that was pretty much it. But even he has wear and tear. Edge was never given the due he should have been and his career was over like that. They shoulda learned something from Edges situation. Jericho's never been built as strongly as he should have been despite his talent either. They can't depend on the guys from the 80s and 90s full time anymore. Even the guys who rose trough the ranks in the 2000s have more days behind them on top than they do ahead. It's a younger mans game...Game.

Interesting analogy, though I think it also had to do with no other Russian men singles qualifying.

But Plushenko, the speculation is that he knew months ago he was in no medical condition to skate, but powered through anyways to help Russia win the team event. Kind of like how an injured WWE veteran does one last job to help put some young guys over.

I think he's been on the cusp for a while. He has constantly turned everything they've given him into gold. Dashing and Cody Von Doom could have been awful in anyone else's hands.

The Rhodes family takes awful WWE gimmicks and make them work. That's a talent of theirs. Anyone else would have seen Goldust as a rib of a burial but Dustin made it one of the forerunners to the Attitude era and later one of its more memorable midcard characters.

Mark alert! Raise the alarms! Break the glass ceilings!

Calling someone a mark doesn't really add anything to the conversation. You could explain why you feel that way at least.

that's another way to look at it.

and I thought I did read somewhere that said there was another Russian teammate that they could have given the spot to. but, who knows........

y'know..........if Jeff Hardy had stayed clean, do you think he could have been the next "Cena?"

Back when he was feuding with heel SOS Punk, I seem to remember that Hardy was pretty mega over with the fans.

Didn't he leave WWE due to drug/wellness issues?

Triple H won't even put over talent on home release!

He cited burn out. It was so bad he even turned down the part timer schedule. However, he was doing some shady sh** back then and probably knew he was going to get busted (which he did shortly after he left) so better to leave on his terms before getting fired.

ah, thanks.

Heh, this is funny given Antonino Inoki's success.

This should be good, Bo vs Neville in a Ladder match for the NXT title, Cesaro vs Zayn and Emma vs Paige for the NXT Women's title.

Don't feed. ;)

What Slushy said. But yeah if he'd stayed clean he coulda been the top guy if they'd gone all the way with him. He was as over as Cena (maybe more) but unlike Cena he was over with all groups (men, women, older fans, younger fans etc.). He hit an interesting middle ground. Young enough to lead a new era but old enough to draw those Attitude Era faithful. The biggest strike against Hardy long term was the wear and tear on his body with all those crazy assed high risk matches.

It's the number one angle but Bryan's the hero. The hero should be center. That's my whole problem with the angle. It revolves around the bad guy not the good guy trying to overcome it all. Trips would still be on the cover anyway so they can't use some stupid ******** excuse of the cover needing bigger stars to grab people's attention.

Heh, this is funny given Antonino Inoki's success.

He'd beat Vince's @$$ in a real fight. And I'd pay to see it.

Wrestlezone’s Top Ten WWE & NXT Superstars to Lead the Next Generation

Agree with some, not with others, but I thought it was funny the way he claims he's sticking his neck out with the #1 pick. :funny:

Yeah. Huge limb? Come the f*** on. Everybody knows that Reigns has the best shot in McMahon land because of his look and his background. And he's no Lesnar. I get the comparison but Brock had much more going for him than look. Reigns has potential but Brock came in with far more mat skill and pure athleticism. Id never see a wrestler Brock's size do the things he did.

The reason the potential Ambrose/Foley feud was cancelled

Last night I went to Tales from Wrestling Past with Mick Foley in Nanaimo, BC. If you ever have the chance to go, you absolutely must go. He's a really funny guy with a lot of interesting stories.

He did about an hour and a bit of telling stories and talking about his career and for the last hour of the show he took questions from the audience. I was lucky enough to be able to ask a few questions.

'Who is your favorite current wrestler and why is it Antonio Cesaro?' Followed by 'What was the reason the potential Ambrose/Foley feud never happened?'

If you aren't familiar with the potential feud, Foley and Dean had a viral video of them having a confrontation in an airport, followed by a number of tweets back and forth between them. Ambrose's tweets contained threats to him and his family, saying he wanted to make his kids become homeless and orphans. The belief among dirt sheets at the time is that Foley wasn't okay with these comments and told Ambrose to stop, and he didn't and that's why Foley called off the feud.

Mick explained that he did actually have a problem with the tweets directed towards his family and he texted Dean asking him to stop. Ambrose continued after the text and had several tweets mentioning his family. Little to Mick's knowledge, Ambrose was working a UK tour and his cellphone couldn't receive texts. So Dean continued tweeting and working the feud on Twitter.

When Dean came back from the UK he pulled the tweets and apologized to Foley. The feud was still supposed to happen until Mick failed the impact test. The doctors told Foley he should never wrestle again. Foley would then go on to his own doctors who told him the exact same thing.

Foley said he was upset that he couldn't have the feud with Ambrose, but he believes it was best in the end because Ambrose ended up debuting with the Shield.

Sorry for the wall of text but I wanted to share this story, right here in /r/squaredcircle . If you ever get the chance, make sure you go to his show. Great guy who goes above and beyond to make sure you get your money's worth.
