This trailer was released on April 23rd a few days before Infinity War hit theaters.

This means that the audience of a 2 billion movie had saw this action-packed trailer which also had the Marvel logo attached to it. Young people couldn’t resist. That and audience word of mouth helped it.

Anybody else think this was the case?

Yes. I believe most of the audience don’t know that venom isn’t in the mcu

I also think most are not aware that Venom is not an MCU film.

Nah that is not it, you can tell its not MCU just from the production value there lol

We can sure lol. But I heard people at work saying they went to see the latest Marvel film and it wasn’t as good as the other ones after seeing Venom (before I had a word). I reckon that to a fair portion of the GA, they know Marvel but have no reason to think there might be anything more complicated like split rights etc. It’s kind of annoying how other films can get away with benefiting by association.

Do six year olds have the money to make the movie into a box office hit?:D

Adults take kids to movies they don’t want to see all the time. I know from experience. My aunt didn’t want to see Batman Begins and was surprised she enjoyed it.

Yea the person I was with asked if venom was gonna be in infinity war. So I highly believe the GA thinks that venom is in the mcu.

What’s your counter argument then?
Tom Hardy? A fluke? "Redemption" for the character after Spider-Man 3? Claiming it attached to MCU maybe?
I don't know what exactly, but as people said; other movies were attached to Infinity War and did not succeed as much.

Kevin Feige shot down the claim that it was in the MCU.

Those films didn’t appeal to Infinity War’s demographic. They weren’t Marvel branded superhero films. Why would kids who are into the MCU be interested in “A Star Is Born”?

A trailer can build interest. But, the movie has to appeal to people to get the legs that Venom did. Word of Mouth was a stronger force than the advertising.

I still believe the GA thought it was an MCU movie. Spidey in the mcu=venom being in there to. The GA has no idea about these deals and Avi arad and different universes. Only someone in the know does. Now that the mcu has a multiverse this might as well be in the mcu now

Yeah, Venom was a case of "Look! He's actually a scary monster", combine with a good actor, horror roots, some entertaining comedy, and good word of mouth. That's all it is. It being attached to Infinity War had little impact. It's like saying that Black Panther did well because it was attached to "The Last Jedi". It's kind of like saying that "A" plus 3 equals orange because rabbits can't fly.

Black Panther and Star Wars have two different demographics. So its not really comparable.

Personally, I’ve wanted to see a Venom movie for over 20 years, so that was my motivation.
