Iron Man 3 The set pics and cast sightings thread - Discussion allowed

Now that Iron Man 3 is officially filming in Wilmington, I figure now is the time to start the inevitable set pic and cast sightings thread.

Filming was at Chestnut between 2 and 3rd street at the Cape Fear Club earlier today, but due to security and such -- hardly any pictures. Filming also took place at Wilmington International Airport.

I've also keeping track of the production via the sublink at On Location Vacations, so maybe when I go down there I might have a chance of meeting any cast members. Of course, RDJ visited Wilmington like a month ago (as in a few days after the Avengers premiere) and there were several dozen sightings of him there.

Now that filming's underway, I'm discouraged I won't be able to see or meet any the cast members. Any insiders or tips one can offer me?

Film crews with Iron Man 3 wrapped up at the Cape Fear Club on Chestnut & Second Streets in Wilmington in about 3 hours; earlier than expected. Police and security guards kept fans back as crews filmed inside the Cape Fear Club. We've also learned that the crew is also filming scenes near Wilmington International Airport.

And Comic Book exclusively adds, We've been talking to some people close to the production in Wilmington and have confirmed earlier rumors that some of the film’s story will take place in Miami, Florida. At any rate, an unnamed, but trustworthy, source close to the production told one of our editors last night that he had seen emergency vehicles–police, ambulance and fire-rescue vehicles–emblazoned with logos for the city of Miami and Miami PD being unloaded from production trucks near the closed part of the set last night while crews prepared to begin shooting Iron Man 3 at the Cape Fear Club later today.

....Miami, huh?

Arthur Newman, Golf Pro also shot here in NC, and certain locales doubled for Florida. So having NC double for Florida isn't new.

Maybe since part of the movie takes place in FL, maybe they'll shoot in Southport and Oak Island? There's a terrific oceanside view that looks very Florida-ish.

Yeah, I don't see any problems in using Wilmington to double as Florida at all; I was just wondering what's supposed to be happening in Miami, storywise.

I'm just doing more research, and I'm getting more and more discouraged. It seems ridiculous to fret about my vacation a month before, but with all this publicity the movie's getting, I won't luck out at all.

The movie is "expected" to shoot scenes on Caitboo Ave behind Crossroads Cinema in Cary, N.C. on Monday and Tuesday from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. And RDJ will be there apparently.

No prob, also, according to WECT:

Iron Works productions plans to film at least one [driving] scene of Iron Man 3 in Cary next week. The production's Assistant Location Manager Ben Stolte requested four motorcycle officers from the Town of Cary to escort a caravan down the street as crews are filming and to briefly hold traffic at a few intersections they would cross in the process.

I actually got to witness a Marvel shoot once at my college...but it was the Thomas Jane Punisher...

Don Cheadle is apparently on-set today. So far, the crew have tents set up. And they've reportedly brought a large Christmas tree on the lawn of Epic Games in Cary, NC.

a) They might be shooting at Epic Games to use it to sub as Killian's tech company. Which would be.....epic.

b) Shane Black is notorious for setting most of his movies during the Christmas holidays. Looks like he's staying true to form here.

c) Maybe it's a tie-in, too --- maybe Epic gets to do the video game for IM3 this time instead of those clueless dinosaurs at Sega. But yeah, that may be too much to ask. But again.....epic. EPIC, DAMMIT

Using their HQ to film is something I didn't think and it's a good suggestion. I'd like to see that. I didn't know about the Black Christmas thing. That's an interesting one.

Also, I wouldn't mind if they took a crack at an Iron Man tie-in, but I don't want to see an FPS like they were trying with Avengers before it got canned. I don't think IM would translate to FPS well and it feels like every developer wants to put out an FPS these days.

According to the press release, they'll have some production time here in the Raleigh/Durham area. Let's hope it won't be too far from my work or home.

I'm not sure which thread to put this into so I'll stick it in here:

The recently released official set image with Tony and all his armours in a display case- does anybody have the same problem with that that I do?

First of all, Tony is likely to have Mark VIII in operation, but almost certainly Mark IX, X, and XI will be in development, so where's he going to put VIII when IX comes online?

Second of all, from what we have seen in his three films so far, Tony is not the sentimental type. He doesn't hold any value to older stuff (as seen by him discarding the first arc reactor, his treatment of the Cap shield, and the general condition of his lab, even Mark II was wedged against a wall in the first one). There,s no way he would bother gong to the effort of building a display case.

Thirdly, all of the armours have been wrecked or stolen/taken, so he would even have to go to the effort of repairing them to make them suitable for display. That's just not in his character.
