Arrow The Slade Wilson/Deathstroke Thread!

Slade was probably at LOA level before Mirakuru .

Slade was probably at LOA level before Mirakuru .

Most likely. Batman however, is, in most comic incarnations, the greatest hand to hand combatant on earth, with no superpowers. (you can argue Lady Shiva, but in which case, he's a close 2nd). Add on to that his Sherlockian mind and deductive prowess, and all his fun gadgets, and he is a force to be reckoned with.

Now, I do agree, I get tired of seeing the old game of "look at Batman take down a meta-human! Because he's super smart and all the prep timez!!!" Honestly, when I see this happen more often than not, the writer has to intentionally dumb down the superhuman he's fighting to make Batman look more bad-ass. At least Loeb knowledged in Hush that Superman would have easily killed Bruce if he wasn't holding back. However, a low-level meta-human as Slade is presented in this TV-show, is one I could see Batman being able to take down. Again, not in a straight hand to hand combat match, but a combination of his skills, planning, and ever-present Bat-gadgets.

Actually pre 52 Batman is not even a close number two when it comes to hand to hand combat (without gadgets etc.).
There's Lady Shiva, Connor Hawke (yep GA's son kicks some serious a**), Natas (Deathstroke's trainer who later retrains Ollie Queen), Black Canary (not sure, but I think they state she's better than Bats) and Constantin Drakon.

Some of these characters are probably somewhere in Bats' league but I think I've read somewhere that he should be something like nr. 5 or 6.

Well, he did get his ass beat before.

Very old showing and out of context,in the actual story Slade got messed up from this very fight so badly that a random thug(YES) dropped him.

Regardless I'm not sure why we're even arguing this and using different versions of the same character inerchangebly.
Origins Batman>Origins Deathstroke
TV Slade>all live action Batmen.
Son of Batman Batman> SOB Deathstroke
Comic Batman and Slade are...it's rather close but Slade edges it out overall.
Beware the Batman will have them facing off as well.

The Bane/Deathstroke comparison doesn't hold up much either,Bane is much more personal and obsessive in his vendettas and enmity than Slade is for the most part(for a while DC drastically changed Slade during Identity Crisis and that version was definitely petty and obsessive,Manu's Slade is obviously inspired by that version).

Connor Hawke was never shown to be Batman's superior. Bruce gave Shiva a harder fight than he did. Natas is a no name,no hit wonder, there's probably dozens of characters like him running around. Drakon relies on meta human speed, Black Canary was just writer wank from Gail Simone. She uses Batman and Lady Shiva as measuring sticks when she wants to prop up her favorites. She has invented 14 Lady Shiva level characters not joking on that one,I love a lot of her work(Secret Six,First BOP,current Batgirl) but that woman has no sense of scale,it's her greatest weakness as a writer.

TV Oliver loses most fights against superior opponents (Merlyn, Grundy, Slade etc..). But he wins out when his life/his friend/Starling City is on the line.

1) because he's the hero of the show.
2) because this Oliver has a built in survival instinct which pretty much is on the level of a super power.

Slade will do the same as Merlyn and Grundy did. Dominate him physically, but the moment he actually tries to kill Oliver, or Felicity, or is close to destroying the city, then Ollie will be all hearing his dad telling him to survive and getting flashbacks to the island and seeing ghosts of Shado and Tommy and his mom, and they'll give him an extra 500% power to win in one or two moves.

It works though, and it's believable enough in the way they do it. He spent 5 years just surviving, makes sense he can step it up when he really has to.

Cassandra Cain as well. Batman even admitted that she could probably take him in a straight-up fight pretty easily. The same is true for Black Canary.

Did people like Ron Perlman as Slade on Teen Titans? I thought he was one of the best parts of the show for sure...

No he didn't and certainly not easily, she would most likely beat him h2h but involve gear and she goes down hard,Black Canary can beat him with her cry h2h she gonna get her ass kicked.

He may have been defeated, but he's still the man!

slade on arrow was one of the best tv villains i've seen in a long time

I totally bought Ollie beating Slade for 2 reasons:

1) Slade was injected with the cure, so he is bound to be weaker.

2) Oliver was being tactica while Slade wasn't keeping his head cool (due to Oliver himself).

Someone else brought this up in another thread, and I agree with them entirely: I wish Oliver had taken Slade's eye out by means of outstanding archery, instead of hitting him while he was down. The way it was done, while certainly awesome looking, felt very obligatory, not to mention arbitrary. Why go for the eye? Why not the throat? Why not both eyes?

He probably thought Slade was dead from that. Eye stab is the same way Slade killed Wintergreen.

I didn't like that fact that Oliver seemed to be able to with stand hits from Mirakura enhanced soldiers/Slade, yet when they hit anyone else, that person would go flying several feet through the air.

Manu Bennett was excellent, and I hope he's used in some capacity next season. I hope he gets more work, particularly in film. The man brings intensity and gravitas in his performances. His line deliveries are always good.

"To beat me kid, you're gonna have to kill me. But in the moment of my death, you'll prove one thing...that you are a murderer."

Agreed. Manu was fantastic. He really should get more work, and hopefully he returns as Slade on the show. Give him his own spin-off. Get a Suicide Spin-off off the ground and appoint him leader of the group. Heck, they could probably just make a Deathstroke show.

Did anybody else love the way they had Oliver unintentionally ensure Slade's continued evolution into Deathstroke in the island fight aboard the Amazo? Oliver's holding both the cure and an arrow. If he stabs Slade with the cure, Slade either dies for real under the wreckage or escapes without his mind-Shado, allowing Slade's attempt to move on afterwards succeed. Instead, he takes Slade's eye, fails to kill him and only cements Slade's hatred.

And I do like the idea that Slade's still in Purgatory on the island. Gives him a chance to move on and simply become Deathstroke the Terminator when he escapes.

Manu confirmed he will be in season 3

^He said they confirmed 'us', as in the show Arrow, for a third season; he didn't specifically say he's coming back.

If they didn't want to use him again, then they'd have just killed him off. I'm quite confident that he'll be in season 3. In what capacity and how large a role, well we'll just have to wait and see.

I couldn't help reading those with Manu Bennetts voice in mind.

Love the deathstroke, I truly feel he is Batmans closest rival. I know it's gonna be debatable based on the writer etc, but I'm just saying overall, in majority of writers I feel these two are ying and yang interms of fighting.
