The Snowman (Fassbender)

Alfredson Replaces Scorsese On "Snowman"

Tomas Alfredson ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "Let the Right One In") is slated to direct an adaptation of "Headhunters" author Jo Nesbo's crime novel "The Snowman" for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures.
The story revolves around Harry Hole, a detective who has been featured in ten previous Nesbo novels. A loose cannon within the Oslo police force, Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman.
Alfredson will take over from Martin Scorsese who was circling the project at one point. Working Title hopes to create a cost-effective film series around the character, ala the two Morgan Freeman Alex Cross films.
Alfredson will work on a draft of the screenplay with writer Soren Sveistrup. Piodor Gustafsson, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce.

This was a great book. I'm excited to see this still happening. And Fassbender as Hole? Not who I imagined but I won't complain.

Fassbender has impeccable taste in projects.

Jonah Hex, The Counselor, and Prometheus all say hi.

Hey now Jonah Hex was back when he was still struggling to get work at all. Can't fault a man for needing a paycheck, The Counselor on the other hand...

^ Exactly.

When your career is on the rise and a visionary director like Scott wants you to work on a project, it would be stupid not to capitalize on that rare opportunity. Also, Fassbender's performances in both films were fantastic, so it is very much possible he was drawn to the characters.

Eh, The Counselor was the 1st original screenplay by Cormac McCarthy, who's a legend. While it was certainly a bad move, I can't blame any of the actors for taking that risk due to his involvement alone.

And Prometheus may not have been a great movie, but Fassbender's role in it WAS pretty great, imo. I don't think that was a bad choice for him at all. I think he has demonstrated very good judgement in roles/projects over the last few years. They're interesting and challenging without screaming "GIVE ME OSCAR" the way certain other dramatic actors who shan't be named do.

Rebecca Ferguson In Talks To Star In ‘The Snowman’ Opposite Michael Fassbender

Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to star opposite Michael Fassbender in The Snowman for director Thomas Alfredson and Brit production powerhouse Working Title in association with Alfredson’s Another Park Film. The deal hasn’t closed just yet but there’s a desire from both sides to get this done in time to confirm a January start date.

The actress is also in the mix for the Prometheus sequel that Ridley Scott, buoyed by his critical and commercial success with The Martian, is prepping at Fox to go into production in the latter half of next year. No concrete talks have been held about that one yet but Deadline understands that the latest draft was delivered to Scott and Fox execs recently and it is, by all accounts, very strong with a peach of a major female role. Ferguson has a lot of fans at Fox, who had courted her to take the female lead in Gambit, only for the actress to go with The Girl on a Train instead.

Get those projects, queen! :awesome:

I bought the book the other week so I'll have to actually read and see which part she might be up for. :D

I thought Amy was your Queen? :oldrazz: I'm glad she passed on the Gambit movie, that would have been a risky choice IMO. Looks like she has opted for a couple of mature thrillers while she waits for her next action fix as Ilsa in Mi:V. :hmr:

She still is! :argh: Along with Queen Charlize, Queen Cate, and French Queen Marion! :oldrazz:

I'm thinking she's playing Hole's ex-wife.

One of the changes they can make it condensing the suspects. My only criticism with the book is that there were too many red herrings.

So you are building a Queendom? :sly: I can dig that! :gngl:

Is that a good role? I was hoping she'd be a detective.

I thought she'd be Katrine Bratt, seems perfect for her.

I totally forgot about the Katrine Bratt character, now that I'm looking it up. It's been a few years since I've read this book. I see that a lot more likely for her. That's a very good role anyway.

Is she involved in the investigation?

I know nothing about this story but was excited because of who's already involved, so the addition of Ferguson just upped that excitement bar.

Jonah Hex, The Counselor, and Prometheus all say hi.

Not sure if serious.

Fassbender must be in the top 5 of actors working today. Also, is Marty still directing this?

Eh, Tomas Alfredson is now the director. Great director as well.

In hindsight yeah, the Bratt role makes the most sense for someone like Ferguson. You don't go from nabbing these great roles to just playing someone's wife. Bratt's character is something Ferguson can really chew on too. You'll know what I mean when you read the book.

Filming starts in January, in Oslo.
