The Spirit: The Animated Series

I find it deliciously tragic that more people are looking forward to The Spirit TAS (myself included) than the actual live action film.

Yeah. That's because it sounds like it has the potential to actually be about Eisner's characters. The hypothetical animated series has gotten far more of an enthusiastic reaction than Miller's idiotic film. Well... except for from Manbat and Mrs. Miller.

Let's hope this happens and the Spirit can actually be written and directed by capable, talented people.

i think the movie will be OVERALL good, but you're right.... TAS sounds like it'd be better...

can we please see more manips

I read a review that said the movie was bad but the reviewer didn't sound professional so I won't take his review seriously.

reviews are just a matter of opinion....

it's important to remember that 90% of people aren't PULP/NOIR fans....

I would argue that most people into hero fantasies are much more keen on Spiderman or the like.

After reading those Spirit reviews, I don't think we're getting an animated series.

maybe we should end this thread then to keep the disappointment of not getting an animated series to a minimum

Maybe we should end this forum then to keep the disappointment of not getting a good movie to a minimum. :hehe:

The hope of an animated series is about ALL an Eisner fan can find any solace in in the Spirit forums. This is the happiest thread in the entire system regarding Eisner's characters.

I really think Timm could do an amazing run with some of the more absurd aspects of the rogue's gallery. I'm thinking Mr. Carrion and Julia are right up his alley, creatively.

I wouldn't put any stock in those AICN "reviews" or take them seriously. I'm certainly not.

THE SPIRT came in at #9, which I imagine decreases the chances of this happening. Which is a shame, because more great Timm cartoons are needed.

If anything I think The Spirit coming in #9 shows that an animated series should be made sticking much closer to Eisner's vision. Hollywood's out of ideas so it's up for giving second chances (Hell, Punisher's had 3, Batman's on his 2nd franchise).Even a few straight to DVD animated movies would be great. DC is animating a Wonder Woman movie. And I don't know one person who wants that.

I wish Brad Bird would go to Oddlot and forcibly take the entire Spirit property from them.

i was mixed... while it had its problems, the film was enjoyable.

TDK had a lot of problems too, but because it did well @ the box office, which batman films always do, it was a hit... i think this is a good film & while it is an unfair comparison, it is also unfair to be dissing it so badly.

also, the Spirit animated series could still work, but who knows. i mean this movie is most people's introduction to the character.

this is evident when they walk out of a theater going "Better than Sin City" or somethig...

The Spirit is first & foremost a comicbook, which tells me that most people don't pay attention to comics, only their movie counterparts.

posers!

I've never read any Spider-Man comics, yet I enjoyed the films (1 and 2) emensly.

The Spirit was bad and it bombed. I doubt an animated series will happen now.

No reason why not, actually - it's a saleable product and without Miller's OTT sexuality it could appeal to a young audience.

If nobody thinks a Spirit animated series could work read one issue of Darwyn Cook's Spirit series. It's built for that.

if they build the the animated series after the comics and not the movie then we have no problems and the sow should be good.
