I just got IT and Salem's Lot for my birthday. I'm trying to decide which to read first... I think I'm going to go with IT.

For whatever it's worth, I think Salem's Lot should come first. IT is the better story, but Salem's Lot is more subtle and should nicely serve as the literary equivalent of foreplay.

I've just started reading the Waste Lands and I was wondering if I should take a break from them after I read the fourth book to read Salem's Lot and Insomnia, because they're tied into to The Dark Tower. Also are there any other books that tie into The Dark Tower that I should read?

I'm in the middle of Wizard and Glass and I needed a break from it. I'm not sure why.

Hmmm... There's Hearts in Atlantis which also deals with the concept of the beams and breakers. Also check out the short story collection 'Everything's Eventual' - there's a story in that called 'The little sisters of Eluria' which deals with a younger Roland as he's starting out on his quest.

I wouldn't say that reading Salems Lot or Insomnia are required reading. I read both after i'd finished DT7 and was able to understand and enjoy the story. But clearly there are elements of both stories that will increase your appreciation of the overall DT saga as well as illuminate the intrinsic interconnectedness of a lot of Kings work.

Damn I love the Dark Tower books. My favourite story of all time, and proof that King deserves his place up there on the heroes wall.

I think I'm gonna take you up on that, mainly based on length. Salem's Lot seems to be quite a bit shorter than IT, so I figure I'll read the shorter one first, then go on to the longer one.

IT is over a thousand pages

I finished the Regulators a few days ago, It was decent, not the best ending I could have wanted but still pretty good.

I'm sure I can handle it. The Stand was a breeze. Okay, well... not really a breeze. It was long, but I loved every second of it. I hope I feel the same about IT.

The Stand was an easy read for me.. Except for the chapters about Trashcan man and Mother Abigail... Those were kind of gruesome for me.

I liked some of the Mother Abigail stuff. But, yeah, almost all of Trash's stuff was just pure crap.

Better than [blackout]getting your ass wiped with barb wire.[/blackout]

That was messed up.

You guys are making me want to pick up The Stand again. I might just do that after I get all the pulp fantasy out of the way.

I want to read the original version.

Collectors ed. of Under the Dome

This was just posted by the Moderator on the Stephen King Message Board:

I've been authorized to release the official information from Scribner about the collector's editions, so here you go:

Scribner will publish two Collector’s Editions. The regular Collector’s Edition will have a special jacket with a belly band, a stamped case, four-color printed endpapers, a ribbon marker, and will contain a set of 27 special trading cards featuring drawings of characters from the book (drawn by cartoonist Matthew Diffee). These drawings will also be featured in the book—as a frontispiece image and on the 26 part title pages. The book will be shrink-wrapped and Scribner will print only 25,000 copies of this edition, priced at $75.

Scribner is also offering 1,500 copies of a signed, limited Collector’s Edition. This contains all the special elements listed above, plus the book will be signed by the author. This is priced at $200.

I'd be very interested to see how different the two versions are.

Different versions of The Stand, or The Gunslinger? I'm interested the original version of The Gunslinger, but wouldn't the original Stand just be the old version without the material of the unabridge version?

The Stand.
There wouldnt be too much of a difference between the two Gunslinger's, would there? Didnt King say in the prelude that theres only like four extra pages worth of material in the new Gunslinger?

The unabridged version was too wordy, in my opinion. Normally, I'm inclined to prefer the original version of any story, but this was one case where I saw the value of editing. It was really a letdown, especially in the last half of the story.

Plan for Dome...
Posted: August 27, 2009, 14:24:36 | Section: Book » Under the Dome

Here's the plan for revealing the cover for Under the Dome

UNDER THE DOME – Cover Reveal Copy
The jacket concept for UNDER THE DOME originated as an ambitious idea from the mind of Stephen King. The artwork is a combination of photographs, illustration, and 3-D rendering. This is a departure from the direction of King’s most recent, illustrated covers.

In order to achieve the arresting image for this jacket, Scribner art director Rex Bonomelli had to seek out artists who could do a convincing job of creating a realistic portrayal of the town of Chester’s Mill, the setting of the novel. Bonomelli found the perfect team of digital artists, based in South America and New York, whose cutting edge work had previously been devoted to advertisement campaigns. This was their first book jacket and an exciting venture for them. “They are used to working with the demands of corporate clients,” says Bonomelli. “We gave them freedom and are thrilled with what they came up with.”

This CGI (computer generated imagery) enhanced image looks more like something made for the big screen than for the page and is sure to make a lasting impact on King fans.

The multiple elements of this jacket art lend themselves perfectly to a unique, four-part jacket reveal campaign. The first aspect will be unveiled on September 21, followed by the release of additional images on September 25 and September 28, and culminating with the full reveal on October 5, when the world will see that everything is UNDER THE DOME

Third Talisman book

The moderator of King's board had the following to say about the third Talisman book:

Steve told me this morning that he and Peter are looking at starting this in two years as that's about how long it will take each of them to clear their schedules of the projects they are working on now.

Two years? Yikes! Thems some busy dudes, lol. :p

I find Salem's Lot to be my favorite. My first Stephen Kings I actually read was Pet Semetary.

I only liked a couple of the stories in Everythings Eventual
