The recent Green Lantern film was full of plot holes. Was Carol's little pep talk enough to allow Hal to go from reluctant rookie to Parallax slayer? I don't think so. This fanfic is my take on how Hal got encouragement from an unexpected source. Enjoy.

Hal Jordans apartment was a stereotypical bachelor pad that paradoxically managed to be spartan and messy at the same time. Normally, when he was expecting company he would make an attempt to tidy it up to some level of quasi-respectability.
On this night, however, neither Hal nor his two guests were concerned in the least about the untidiness of his flat. Their minds were focused on more weighty matters, namely, the fact that a near unstoppable intergalactic planet killing maniacal entity was headed towards earth with the specific intent of wiping it of every trace of sentient life.
This soul chilling fact had forced Hal to confront the truth that, while he had always swaggeringly proclaimed himself as fearless, he was, at this time, quite afraid. The fact that he made this admission to his best friend and former lover only served to add insult to injury, Carols attempt at a pep talk notwithstanding.
Hal sat in his chair in silence, lost in thought, while his friends sat in silence, as if speaking would be an act of rudeness.
So, what do you do now? asked Tom, who made a valiant but futile attempt to hide the terror in his voice.
Hal looked up at him and shrugged. The only thing I can do is go back to Oa and tell the Guardians that this thing is headed for earth, maybe they can help somehow. . . He was interrupted when his ring began to glow.
Whys it doing that? asked Carol, who was startled by the rings sudden activity.
I dont know, if it needs charging it goes dead, and if it blinks that means theres danger, but I never have seen it glow like this before. . . I . . . Hals voice trailed off. His eyes were drawn to the ring like a magnet, he stared at it, and it seemed to glow brighter and brighter with each passing second. Finally, the ring ceased glowing and resumed its normal appearance. Hal was momentarily puzzled by the abrupt cessation of the glowing but quickly dismissed it as the ring did not alert him to any danger.
Hal abruptly stood and changed into his lantern uniform, Hate to be rude guys, but I need to get some air, Ill be back in a few minutes. With that remark, away he flew out of his window.
As he flew high above the night sky of Coast City, hair blowing, Jordan gracefully turned, twisted and flipped with acrobatic grace. Flying like this, I feel completely free and almost relaxed even with Armageddon bearing down on the planet, he thought. It should be easy to come up with a plan while Im up here . . .
Hals thoughts were interrupted when he looked at peculiar silhouette that abruptly appeared against the moon. It looked like another lantern flying. The silhouette was becoming larger, it was headed towards him.
I bet its that s.o.b. Sinestro coming to rub his beat down of me in my face, Hal thought. If he thinks Im going to turn tail on my own planet, in my own city, hes got another thing coming. Jordan tensed in anticipation of a fight. Then, as the figure drew closer, Hal saw that it was another lantern, but it wasnt Sinestro.
It was Abin Sur, the alien who gave him the ring. Hals jaw dropped, and for a moment he thought he might fall from the sky in shock.
