Why would you do The Thing as a practical suit in this day and age? We saw the limits of that with the Tim Story films. It was a good attempt for the time period, but they need to give Ben the Thanos treatment in terms of CGI.

Korg not Thanos

I think The Thing is fairly an easy character to adapt in CGI. I think with the right team, it should look as good as The Hulk if not better.

I can't judge it enough since its an artwork which could look different when its finally presented in a movie trailer.

I’m kinda disappointed they aren’t doing the early lumpy version to start.

We have come a long way from making random speculations from the actor himself confirming practical or CGI THING

Thank goodness it will be CGI.

Kind of hard to tell from such a brief glimpse, but am I the only one thinking this looks like a guy in a suit rather than CGI?

Um wow that looks like Kirby's Thing holy ****.

Yeah, I think that was the highlight of yesterday’s presentation to me.

I’m optimistic that we’ll finally get a kick-ass Thing.

Wow that’s a spot on Kirby design. Great to see they’ve made it with love

I'm certain the thing will be CG, Ebon pretty much said it would be a while back.

Yeah, it seems to be confirmed, but I’m looking at the above photo/clip, and one thing that strikes me is his upper arm.

In ROTSS there were many scenes with Chiklis as Ben wearing clothes and I noticed the upper arms seemed a bit “sunken” and he looked a little Popeyeish (presumably because the padding in those upper arm areas wasn’t as stiff as the rocky forearms. )

And I’m seeing a similar appearance in that photo.

But if they do use practical effects, I’d assume they’ll use them for brief, static scenes like that.

A big problem with Chiklis’ suits was he moved clumsily - like a man in a heavy suit rather than a powerful cosmic irradiated being.

It’s also possible that that isn’t the final scene and they did that as a pre-vis and/or something just for the fans.

What did you think of Fant4stic Thing?

Kirby drew him in a way that he was always charging, lunging etc.

He may weigh 4 times as much as a normal person, but he’s 1000 times stronger, so his body weighs nothing to him.

And that’s something they can’t pull off in a suit with a normal-strength actor wearing 100’s of pounds of foam rubber.

In case anyone had doubts about them still doing CGI, check out EMB’s pants:

I kinda agree and disagree. CG should most definitely be used in complicated shots, and that goes for any film, but,
at the same time, it's used too much when practical effects/shots would be better.
It seems kinda lazy ( and overused ) at times to use CG.
